open sesame

very poor tasting food and drinks. the pop was not fuzzy, the dumplings wrappers were thick & the entrees (dragon noodles and pad thai) were just very disappointing. the dragon noodles were undercooked. the pad thai was bitter. the chicken/shrimp dumplings and the kimchi were the only good things we ate in our 30-45mins at the restaurant. this is our third time here and we will not be returning for certain.

poor service, inconsistent food, not at all pleased. 6 of us went for lunch at open sesame today, 3 of us ordered the 20 dollar thai bouillabaisse, which is supposed to come with shrimp, scallops, and mussels. we all ordered them extra spicy. the dish is supposed to come with shrimp, scallops, and mussels. one of the three orders had 9 scallops, 4 mussels, and no shrimp. another had 5 mussels, 2 scallops, and no shrimp. the third was actually balanced, with 4 mussels, 4 scallops, and 5 shrimp. only one was spicy, so we had to order a dish of dry red peppers to help it out. when one of us accidentally dropped a chopstick, the waiter apparently thought it was funny and laughed at my guest. when we mentioned the poor food, he again just laughed, and made no effort to discuss or remedy the situation. i recommend you dine elsewhere as this was a terrible experience. we will not be returning.

it's ok. i think the foods was ok there, not great but not bad.
very dark dining atmosphere,

enjoyable visit. went for dinner after a late afternoon movie. we were greeted and seated quickly. our waitress was attentive, making good recommendations, bringing drinks and coordinating our appetizers and mains perfectly. we enjoyed the food; great summer rolls, fresh salmon and well prepared stir fry. the restaurant has a nice lively vibe. we're likely to return. thanks open sesame.

yum!. i love the fact you get to go and create your own noodle bowl!! very awesome idea. love the atmosphere too!!

we went here based on the good reviews, looking for a place that had veggie options. we were so disappointed and couldn't believe the relatively high rating! one of us took the stir fry option, one of us got a buddha bowl and one of us got the butter chicken. the buddha bowl came with no mushrooms (unlike as described) and crunchy burned noodles. the chicken in the butter sauce was almost black - not burned, just mottled grey meat? the spring rolls were nicely seasoned but cost $4 each and were not worth the price. we ordered naan with the stir fry but it was more like a dense, soggy pita. none of us enjoyed our meals, and we left hungry. a limited menu with poor quality dishes.

love it!!!! one of my very favorite restaurants. when you do the self serve bowl and ask for specific meat and rice/pasta, it's always great! you can never go wrong unless you put something in it yourself that you don't like.

horrible service! we were a group of three and were seated at a table meant for only two people. there were clearly other empty tables available for groups of 3-4. when we asked to be moved to one of those, we were very blatantly told by the staff that there was no waitress available for that table and if we sat there then we won't be served.on top of that we had to wait 20 mins for the waitress to come take our order while the table right next to ours which was seated at the same time as us, was served within minutes. the food was ok. i had heard great things about this place but won't recommend it to anyone.

open sesame had poor servers, but amazing food! after food was ordered, it only took about 10 mins. for arrival. the restaurant itself was very well decorated! would definitely come back!

can't go wrong with throwing together your own rice bowl together. the veggies were excellent. crazy amounts of options. waitress did a great job. next time i'm back in calgary i'll be eating there forsure!

went there last evening with 4 friends. excellent and attentive service from our server. appies were great. three of us had the stir fry and loved them. two ordered off the menu and were happy with choices. waaay too full to try one of the interesting desserts offered. will be back to try something else!

the food was below our expectations, and the service was very slow. i don’t blame the server, i think the restaurant is short of staff. i like the diy dish style, but that’s the only bonus of the whole experience. wouldn’t go again.

very very cool asian style ambiance! it is quite dark inside this restaurant but i liked it :) they mostly offer a ‘build you own stir fry’ style of menu that is very affordable especially considering all of the fresh veggies available. you choose your protein (if you want one), choose your starch (rice, noodles, etc.), and then you go up to the buffet with your bowl and load up on as many vegetables, sauces, or condiments you like! most people had heaping bowls of vegetables 😉 the chef will then cook it all up. i made mine a little too spicy but it was still pretty good. just be mindful that the ingredients you choose will actually taste good together. the highlight of our meal though was the banana won ton dessert!! it was absolutely incredible!! we will definitely be back!

open sesame was a place i have wanted to try for a while and i was finally able to try it. the food was okay. some of the dishes we tried were absolutely delicious and others lacked flavour. the service was excellent...our server explained how the pick your own stir fry works and the selection of vegetables and sauces for your stir fry was good. the lighting was dark but overall the atmosphere wasn’t too bad. i’d probably come back again if i was in the area, just to try some other dishes, but it’s not one of those places i would drive across the city just to go to.
