not a fan and won't go back, all 3 of us did not enjoy our food very much. the pad thai was super soya sauce flavored, butter chicken was disappointing and the mongolian grill was ok but mostly because i chose the flavors myself!

haven't really tried most of the menu items, but the mongolian grill is great! choose your own meat, veggies and noodles and pay a flat price! some of the other places in town charge by weight, which can get pricey!

close sesame. the only thing good this place has to offer is the stairs that go up to bolero. build your own bowl deal is like reading a book you have to write yourself.

butter chicken. dont order it! it comes with one piece of naan bread to sop up all of your sauce. order an extra piece for $3! comes cold with a skin on it. should have eaten somewhere else!
never again!

-----24 jan, 2011-----

never eat there again!!. the food was cold, tasteless and trying too hard! service was horrible!

it took 8 people, 3 hours to get in and out!

it wasn't busy, but our waitress found that there were better things to do, than to wait on us.
we had to chase her down for drinks over and over, chase her down for cutlery and for our bill. when we had problems with our food, the little girl who was managing, told us it wasn't her problem!!! didnt take it off our bill, or try to correct it in any way! never have i ever been treated so bad in a restaurant before. and they automatically add 15% to your bill for gratuities!

when you get the debit machine, it asks you to tip on top of that as well! when we asked how to by-pass it...the waitress immediately told us "tip is not included"! we explained to her, our bills tell us otherwise.
the problem with gratuities included, is the server automatically gets a tip, regardless of the service. it should not be imposed on a patron, no matter how many people are sitting at your table. (we had 8)
if the service and food sucks, it sucks. why tip?

as a former bartender and waitress, you never expect a tip from a patron no matter what, you work your butt off to make that tip and their night so they'll come back. i am also more forgiving, as i know what it's like, but not in this case. i would have been fired!

this server didn't know gratuities were included and did a lousy job! i can just imagine how her service would have been had she known! how bad could it get?

the worst place i have ever half-eaten a plate of food and i wouldn't recommend it to any person or animal....ever!

i would recommend the walk around the marketplace. their main menu is not impressive. a good place to go if you feel like some comfort food. the decor is the real attraction.

always consistent!. i've dined at open sesame a few times now, this particular sit down was for a lunch and i love how even with short notice they accomodated my lunch request.

i've even brought my children there for their birthday dinners, its different from your typical chain and its always consistent.

looking forward to my next lunch! thank you!

different from the mainstream. i loved the decor ... dark and cozy for a winter's day outside. great staff. delicious food, and a very varied menu. we had the "make your own bowl" thingy which was cool. great import beers too.

really??. as an asian currently living in calgary i've had my fair share of fake asian cuisine. this place was so awful it was in a league of its own. we went there after trying to walk into bolero's without a reservation on a friday night. notice how there are never any asians in there? i ordered the pad thai which i thought was a safe option considering nothing else looked appealing. it was the worst food i have ever had, didn't finish or pack up to go. two people, also asians, at the same table couldn't finish theirs either. i grew up in vancouver, went to school in toronto...only in calgary could a place like this survive!

avoid this place at all costs!. while dining here on a weeknight, i was served raw chicken. seeing this, we immediately asked to speak with a manager and were told he or she would be right over. this was followed by several minutes of waiting until we were finally informed that the manager wasn't in. between the poor service and the undercooked meat, we obviously will not be returning, and will instead be going to mongolie grill.

one of my favs. really enjoyable dining experience. well priced, lots of choices, fresh ingredients, great atmosphere. wish there was one in the north!

the only thing is it would be best to make a reservation, wait can be quite long

the food is great, fresh, and very quick...not to mention the amazing dessert (banana wonton) but sometimes the waitresses can be so rude, as well as some if the bartenders

veggie wok. this is one place i frequent because of reasonable price for their salad bar.
don't forget to state when you place your order that you would like your food cooked in a veggie wok. they have specific woks set aside for people with allergies and vegetarian diets.
get yourself a bowl fill it to over flowing like mongolie grill, sauce it up and best of all you don't pay by weight!
the price for their stir fry's are set without meat therefore you'll never pay for something only to have it omitted. :d
they have all the regular fixings with the inclusion of some of my favorites like bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, fried tofu, peanuts, banana chips and on an average visit you can expect carrots, red onions, green peppers and red peppers, mushrooms, white onions, broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, regular peas, pineapple, spinach, chickpeas, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, chillies, shitake mushrooms, ginger, garlic and cilantro. i'm most likely missing some but depending on season i've also been when some where not present.
once you get your toppings piled up and you're ready to sauce it up you'll also notice that there are charts on the top of the round stir fry market area that have allergy charts and ingredients. this makes it easy to see which sauces have chicken or beef broth, which have fish and which are vegetarian and vegan. there may not be a lot of vegan options for sauces but it's a step above the competition.
i almost forgot the atmosphere is amazing. i especially like sitting by in one of the booths across from the fireplace.

great. this place has fantastic food. order one of the sizzling dishes you will not be disappointed!

open sesame also has my favorite desert in calgary. the peanut butter blondie. holy shizzle is this the most delicious dessert ever created!!

if you go, make sure you leave some room for this dessert! so good!!
