since moving to istanbul from south africa recently, i've eaten at quite a few places, but none of them deserved a review. i was invited by a few friends to ondo in eyup. this establishment is not your typical turkish street food joint. they cater for foreigner taste buds and make the food as you like it. most of the meat is grilled on skewers over a charcoal fire. so i was at home with the braai-styled beef chunks. they serve around 8-10 skewers with flat pita bread, spicy onion and tomato sauce with some grilled veggies - all in different plates. so you basically take the meat off the skewer into your bread and add your sides. the food was unique, well done and also spicy to my liking. i would definitely recommend this place to foreigners who visit istanbul. the prices are quite decent and the portions are really big. they accept all major credit cards, cash and also the prepaid setcards. they're fully halaal with no alcohol served and all meat is approved by the gimdes halaal authority.
