my husband and i like this place when we come to helen. he is part german and has traveled in germany several times and stayed with friends from germany. he says the experience is similar to his experience in german cafes in germany: plain, simplefoodat a fairly expensive price tag.

every time we've eaten here thefoodhas been good and the service good. the prices are a little high, but you get a lot of food. in fact, we shared the 4 sausage plate.

good solid place for lunch in helen.

great place, foods good and the servers are extremely polite and attentive.

the inn is located in an ally way but this adds to its character. we have eaten several items in the menu and every time thefoodis great. the beer is always cold and our glasses are always full.

gross. from the instant whipped potatoes to the salads drowned in vinegar, this is some of the worst and least authentic "german"foodi've ever had. $50 for two for a lunch i didn't eat half of feels utterly ridiculous. achtung!

tourist trap, do not eat here!. we were talked into going in this place by a lady at a store just across the way. lo and behold, we saw her at the restaurant servingfoodand guiding the staff. i assume she owned both places. my father got the german sub for 8.95 and probably had 1 ounce of meat on it...max...you could barely see it under the lettuce, cheese and tomato. just got water which was not in the menu as a chargeable drink and cost us 2.25 each. reuben was advertised as "piled high" with meat...not such luck. stay far away from here.

wonderful. delicious. exceeded expectations. i can't think of enough good things to say. the hubs and i came here while visiting oktoberfest. we really wanted an authentic experience and, boy did we get one. the girls working are extremely nice and helpful, as well as knowledgeable about thefoodwith beer andfoodrecommendations at the ready. first, i'll say, if you are a dark beer person, try the celebrator (suggested by the german owner). my husband, who loves, new castle and yuengling, fell in love with it. the pretzel on the appetizer menu is incredible. huge, soft, crusty, flaky, rich, warm goodness. i may be wrong, but the butter even tasted possibly homemade and was delicious as well. we both agreed it was hands down best pretzel ever (they fly them in from munich). we then got a sampler plater as suggested by our waitress. wonderful! and we even got to try the spatzel appetizer (it's different than what you get with the main courses), and was truly blown away. the hubs said it was the ultimate mac and cheese (they put parm and heavy cream with the spatzel) and requested i find a recipe to make it at home. truly wonderful place. please dont waste your time elsewhere!

3/28/2013 good experience!. we were visiting from out of town and wanted a family friendly dinner location. we had a hard time finding this restaurant, we called the number for the restaurant and the hostess met us out on the street to help us find it as it is located in between buildings in a alley in the the shopping area. the service was excellent and thefoodwas great!

thefoodwas okay but truly overpriced. it is evident that the owner could care less about repeat customers and nickel and dimes everything. waitress wasn't allowed to serve tap water and don't order beers unless it's by the pitcher. i would not eat here again... i grew up eating germanfoodand i wasn't impressed.

first off thefoodwas fantastic! it reminded me exactly off the greatfoodi ate while i lived there. granted, it was a bit pricey, but then again so were all of the german restaurants in the vicinity. thefoodwas plentiful, delicious, and well worth the price. i strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone visitng alpine village!
