great food, great service, what more can i say? i had the mushroom/swiss burger. it was a very good sized burger with a very fresh and buttery bun. the swiss/mushroom topping was very creamy and flavorful. definitely exceeded my expectations! i thought the onion rings were very good, but i wouldn't have raved about them like some other reviewers. it's about 10.00 with tax for a burger and onion rings, so it's not cheap but its a good value for the quality. puts five guys to shame. haha

finally got back to nick and j's recently, so i thought i'd go ahead and add my review.  a friend and i sat at the counter and tried the reuben and gyros, both of which we thought were pretty darn good.  friend got fries, so i tried the onion rings.  we both agreed the onion rings were top notch and will definitely order them again.  we also tried some extra side items, and agreed that bacon was also worthy of special mention.  the diner-type choices were exactly what we were looking for that day and it was great fun to sit at the counter and watch the staff put together the food that we and others ordered.  i've always been happy at nick and j's and this visit held true.  i dropped my rating a smidge because we took a couple desserts home, and they turned out to be not as good as the main fare, but it's a place worth going to more than once.

i was there at lunch time and the placed was packed as always. although they were busy the food was prepared quickly, tasted amazing and i was in and out in 30 minutes. as always this was a wonderful experience and i look forward to the next time.

this was our first visit but will not be our last.  wife and i both had the tastiest burgers we have had in a long time.  fries were yummy too. were asked no less than four times how the food tasted and we were always eager to say great.  loved the food, the service, the price...well just everything.  a great place to eat.

lunch here this week. i had saw and heard a lot of good things and pretty much would echo them as well. i decided that i would have a hamburger as that seemed to be a specialty. the place was crowded and i did wait on a table just a few minutes but nothing too bad.

the burger was prepared very well. it was the kind of burger that makes you think of the local burger joint. the tomato , onion, lettuce and bun were all very good. the fries were hot and fresh.  the service was very good.  total for the plate and soda was $10.05.

they have other items that would be worth another stop in the future.

i ate at this place 2 or 3 years ago for lunch but was not impressed. however i have noticed that it is packed for breakfast so i gave it another shot. breakfast menu has a simple country approach so don't expect anything fancy or creative. i got the veggie omelette with bacon and it was really good and massive. the toast was thick or the other option was biscuits and gravy, which i thought was a cool option. watching everyone in the place it seemed like everyone enjoyed it and everyone seemed happy. it was not one of those breakfast places where everyone looked miserable and dreading their day. might sound weird but it has a happy atmosphere. i will be coming back.

re:  mr bill, my husband and i frequently dine at nick & j's cafe.  we are not related to anyone associated with the restaurant.  the food is always good and they consistently receive high restaurant health scores.   i highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family.  we were excited about the new menu and dined there today july 27, 2015.  i had the chicken tenders which were crispy on the outside and lightly seasoned, but moist and tender on the inside.   for a slight up charge, i had the fried mushrooms instead of french fries.  my husband enjoyed the philly cheese steak and fried okra, relishing every bite.  we will be going back tomorrow to try out the chicken fried steak.    this is a family owned and operated restaurant and the owners and staff are very friendly and efficient.  very popular with the locals so if you plan to dine during peak dining hours, you may have to wait for a table, but it will be worth the wait.  we are retired so we go in for late breakfast or early or late lunch depending on what we have going on.   if you haven't tried nick & j's restaurant, i highly recommend it.  don't pay attention to naysayers.

the review. nik and j's is exactly what i was looking for when i moved back to knoxville from california after serving with the marines. nik and j's is the perfect local diner to meet up with friends and really feel at home. they're ruben and country breakfast are my top favorites, everything there on there menu is exceptional and does not break the bank. i would recommend this place to anyone in knoxville or visiting.

best breakfast in town. their reuben is out of this world! there is no substitution in knoxville. the banana pudding is always great and the staff is awesome. always feel at home and leave in a better mood. favorite cafe in knoxville.

best burgers-great service. i sneak in here for quick lunches during the business week. i sit at the counter, chat with the owners, and eat their all the way burger which is awesome. always served hot right off the grill with fries that are pulled from the hot fryer. local family that truly cares what their customers think and want you to have a great experience. hard to resist the brownie to go as i pay at the register. strongly recommend.

excellent place to dine.. i was just in the area and haven't been to this restaurant, some of the best that i have enjoyed, friendly atmosphere, quick service, and the meal was in my view on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best i would definitely give it a 10 plus.
