new south kitchen & bar

fresh & local. everything we had was fantastic! if you are reading reviews here, you already know what thisplaceis about so i will spare you further explanation.

we shared: brie & crackers, shrimp and grits, grilled romaine, and (awesome) penne mac & cheese along with a couple of local beers. the food was dynamite, and all (except the brie) from a short menu they use during weird hours like sunday afternoon before dinner. so many places are closed during this time, so i applaud them for being open.

our server was great, too!

enjoyed sitting outside in the nice weather, wish it was more ambient than an active shopping center parking lot. maybe some iron railing would help? plants?

sadly, we saved no room for dessert - the choices sure sounded good. we've already made a plan to return!

excellent experience. we ate at this restaurant last saturday. the new southern cuisine theme was what attracted us to the restaurant. there was plenty of parking and it's located in a shopping center so it's easy to find. there was no wait for a table though the restaurant was busy. i rate restaurants experiences based three things; food, service and atmosphere.

food - we ordered two appetizers for the table. the pork spring rolls were very tasty far better than i expected them to be! fried green tomato's are one of our favorite dishes and the ones prepared here did not disappoint. very tasty also! i ordered the pan fried chicken for my entree. i'm not sure i would call what i was served pan fired. it was more sauteed than fried. part of that may be on me, as i was thinking southern fried chicken when i ordered it. one bite however eliminated any regrets on my part. it was delicious. it was served with seasoned mash potatoes and green beans. the chicken was seasoned boneless breasts covered with a light batter and covered in a light white sauce/gravy along with the mashed potatoe . the portion sizes were generous and pleasantly plated. my wife had the sliced turkey breast. she was quite happy with it. i had a taste of it also. the turkey was very moist and served with dressing, cranberries, and mashed potatoes. nicely prepared and plated also. dessert was a shared chocolate tort. very rich but very good also. on a scale of 1-10 with ten being the best i rate the food at 9. it was good!

service- our waiter was efficient though he forgot a couple of things asked for and had to be reminded. not a major mistake. the meal took a while to come out of the kitchen, but theplacewas busy and the wait was appropriate given the number of diners and the diner hour. on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best i'd rate the service as a 7.

atmosphere - this restaurant looked clean, table settings were neat and orderly, and the decor more or less standard restaurant design with an eye toward an upscale look. 1 - 10, i'd give the atmosphere a 7 also.

we will definitely go back here again. the menu had a lot of good options and i'm looking forward to sampling more of them!

thisplaceis great! great fresh food, friendly staff, fantastic options and specials that change weekly. definitely one of our favorite spots!

ummm. new favoriteplacein s clt?. went back here with my girlfriend for dinner. yes, as others have commented, the ambience is nothing special. but the food! we shared a reasonably priced bottle and a couple small plates and a large plate. the pork belly sliders were amazing: succulent and crisp. the duck confit was very good. the large plate was a tenderloin the size of a baseball, cooked a perfect mr. the sides were new south version of mac n' cheese (made with penne rigate) and perfectly seasoned collard greens. we finished it off with the bread pudding for dessert. it was a little drier than i usually prefer, but it was finished quickly (nom nom). the service was very attentive and knowledgable. we even got to watch duke get destroyed in the first round of the ncaa in the bar as we were leaving. all in all, a perfect evening!

exceeded expectations. i went there for lunch with a colleague. excellent! i consider myself an expert on good southern cookin'. thisplacedid not disappoint. i can see it becoming my new favoriteplacein south charlotte! if you don't like thisplaceit's prob because you don't like southern food in the first place. 'nuff said ;)
