high priced and over rated. so called vanjaram fish was definitely not vanjaram, its vanjaram like vanjaram fish. in 400 rs priced non veg meals we got only two veg sides and one karuvad side and rice and 2 non veggravywhich was absolutely so over priced and not so authentic !!

chicken biriyani was 250 it jus felt like they mixedgravyin white rice and gave. im really wondering how its 4+ rated ?!!

pattukottai kamatchi mess, t.nagar

we plan to avoid some places due to mixed reviews but there is a kismet which drives us to it.

on may 1st all the restaurants were heavily crowded with waiting time minimum 20 mins. religiously gave my number to 3 restaurants and started my wait at pondy bazaar with my friends. my restless friend insisted on this restaurant and was sanguine of getting a seat faster.

it was no easy task even here, we waited for 15 mins which made me rethink of all mixed reviews from different platforms. when my hope went completely zero, we got a table.

pasava briyani aka mutton briyani
₹210
the briyani basically tasted like our old granny's oorulai satham. it felt like the rice was mixed with thick semi-friedgravyand by taste it was satisfactory. the disappointment came with the pieces, it was very chewy and was less pleasing in taste. seeing my weird face my friend thought i am gonna kick him for this chewy piece.🤨

meals here come as combo, unlimited meals combined with a master side dish.

pepper chicken meals
₹259
with regular non veg meals you get a thonnai of pepper chicken. on the first sight i wasn't impressed but a piece from it changed my perception. the pieces were very soft and juicy and well marinated with pepper.

fish fry meals:
₹319
the fish fry which came with meals was fried nicely with lots of spicy masala. on the first sight it looked like vanjaram but it wasn't; with too many thorns it was quite difficult to enjoy the flavour.

i guess it's high time i need to stop judging food by its look 😝

brain pepper:
₹160
this was one reason which made to sit back and finish my briyani. the brain was too good with zero meat taste, lots of pepper, piping hot these attributes made it to be the premier.

pattukottai nattu kozhi special
₹220
seeing the name we all thought it's their signature dish but it wasn't. the taste was very normal and pieces were also not that stunning.

chicken kari omelet
₹160
one more impressive cuisine which impressed me a lot. the omelet had lot of onions mixed half amount of curry leaves with very good blend of masala which was served piping hot. the savour made me to take major portion of it which ended up with only small piece for my friends 😁

even though we had wallet damage worth ₹1688, the people who entered with expectations got disappointed and the person who entered with a dilemma got impressive varieties of starters.

overall it's 50-50, may be a second attempt would give a clear picture!😉

one of the most hyped restaurant in recent times!!
its badly crowded, no proper staffs managing d order n order... service was lil bad!! u need to keep on calling the person to serve u the next dish!!

they have proper non veg meals which includes
2 veg poriyals, dry fish thokku, rice n 7 non veg gravies with rasam n buttermilk.. n with this u need to select one of the main to make it a combo (fish, kollaballs, mutton sukka, chicken, crab, prawns).. the price differ for each of the combo..
so we selected one fish combo n one mutton sukka combo...

the dry fish thokku was really good n tasty..it was really different!!
both d veg poriyals wer very bad n couldn't taste anymore bad...no taste at all..jus tumeric n salt!!

to start with the gravies;
chickengravy- plain tomatogravywith chicken pieces not impressive n not tat too!!
muttongravy- coconut flavored with mutton bones, it was good n we liked it!
naatu kozhigravy- same coconut flavored but bit different taste from mutton so it was also good..
fishgravy- no no, jus the tamarind water with chilly powder, no flavor of fish n it didn't taste like fish kulambu..
crabgravy- no spicy no salt not good..even our opp seated ppl were polambifying abt the taste!!

after this i ended my lunch with rasam...

the fish fry was good n mutton sukka good...but nothing to say much abt it...

it was a ok kind of lunch not fully satisfied.. they serve u pieces in eachgravyif u ask for!! so do ask for the pieces wen they serve u d gravies!!

this restaurant was in my list for a long time n i was very excited but it didn't meet d expectations!!

they need more staffs to manage the crowd n people there!!

u can give a try...

a decent family restaurant with unique concept of non-veg meal

got to know about this place while i was searching for restaurants in chennai. gave it a try yesterday afternoon.

i had non-veg meal with fish fry. for people who do not know, their non-veg meals is served with unlimited rice, 7 different non-veg gravies and a fry based on people’s choice. out of 7 non-veg gravies i tried chicken gravy, mutton gravy, fish gravy, crabgravyand natu kodi gravy. all of them were good and had different taste, which is most uncommon these days. but the only negative part is, only fishgravyand crabgravyhad consumable meat. rest of them were served with bones. they can serve at-least one or two pieces of consumable meat so that people can get the feel of gravies. at last, i finished the meal with rasam and fish fry. fish fry was served with fried onion on the top. masala was soaked well and it was fried to the right extent. i liked it very much. overall, i was pretty satisfied with the home like food here.

ambience was decent. service was top notch. servers were keeping an eye on every guest and served food as and when needed.

prices are decent for the quality and quantity of food.

the only suggestion i could give is, to include consumable meat along with the gravies. as far as i’m concerned, i’m ready to pay 100 bucks extra for that. i guess other people also would.

i would recommend this place to people who are interested in having home style non-veg food in chennai.

hygiene - 4/5
taste - 4/5
service - 4.5/5
ambience - 3.5/5
price - 4/5

overall experience - 4/5

as strongly recommend by my friend, i just stopped by kamatchi mess for thursday lunch ! place was packed with people and it was hard to get a table for two !
we ordered for two non-veg meals (mutton chukka meals) which was served with 7 varieties of gravy's ( inr 270 ) . every singlegravywas pretty good in taste and special mention to fish kozhambu. also ordered mutton chops ( inr 150 ) which was cooked perfectly to it's taste . my experience with this mess was pretty decent and food was worth every penny!
only thing that bothered me was the cost of paneer soda (inr 70 ) , which i felt quite expensive .. as it only worth rps.20 !
p.s : it's open only for lunch :)

ambience : 4/5
service : 4/5
food : 4/5

went with three more friends to have a lunch today at new pattukottai kamatchi mess in t.nagar, food was served in traditional was with banana leaf service. waiters were with face sheild, mask and disposable hand gloves.

started to order the mr.ganesh who helped and recommended meals with few starters
mutton biriyani with traditional rice jeeraga samba was served first with lot of accompanies.

yeeral thookku, fish fry, mutton sukka were outing and followed by steamed rice and gravies like nattu kozhi gravy, muttongravy, mud pot fish curry which one should try and not to miss at any cost. we also ordered pichi potta nattu kozhi pepper fry which was mouth melting. after a big meal we had goli soda and karupatti halwa and mysore pak which makes you feel lite after such a big meals.

i was felt so good to have a such meal in a restaurant after this long pandemic lockdown.

worth every buck. before i say anything else this is only if you appreciate strong south indian spicy flavors that shoot straight up your head leaving you in ecstasy. 'namma ooru foodies' will probably get how it feels. i've been there multiple times and of course a time or two the tastes have been a bit off but other than that they offer a proper non veg meal that can make your week. all the gravies have intense, authentic and ideal flavors of their own and if you are a bit early you get to indulge in thegravymeat pieces too.
overall great food, great sides, decent ambience, slightly crowded, worth every buck.

true blue hardcore non veg joint this one! chettinad fantasies abound with the courteous service as they serve your meals on banana leaves. i had everything under the sun in this joint. i think what stood out was the mutton sukka, the naatu koli sukka andgravyand the crabs. the meen fry also was lovely (seer fish). they serve goli soda and butter milk along with the meals to help you wash down those extreme spice levels. the service is very prompt. can go there. beware the crowds on weekends. i went on a lunch for weekday and that itself was packed.
