mustang sally's pub & diner

this was my second time going there. first time was amazing and made quite an impression. milkshakes were out of this world. the sliders and corn dog combo was delicious as were the ribs. everything was fresh and delivered with quality.

second time was horrible.... the milkshake tower was slapped together, the doughnut was stale and nauseating. the burgers were over salted. i only ate a bit of the meal and felt sick for two days after. sadly the second time also left an impression.... i don't want to go there anytime soon, the sick feeling lingered for much longer than the excitement .

mustang sally is a friendly, fun diner! the portions are huge and full of flavour! the milkshakes are so much fun. it is not expensive at all and you get your moneys worth. they will definitely see me again.

after hearing about and seeing pictures of the amazing looking milkshakes we thought we most definitely need to try it! upon arrival you're taken aback by the typical american diner look. with decorated walls, american flags and red booths. we only wanted to try the milkshakes but eventually got convinced to try something to eat after having a look at the menu.
we tried the oreo milkshake as well as the marshmallow milkshake. the marshmallow milkshake was definitely the favorite as the oreo one had oreos on it, but the milkshake itself didn't taste like oreo at all. i've had far better oreo milkshakes than this one so was quite disappointed.
to eat we had the macaroni and cheese fried balls and jalapeño poppers. the macaroni and cheese balls are super greasy and full of melted cheese - typical american style! however it does get too much after a while so definitely try their food out on a completely empty stomach.
our waiter was great and service overall was good.

well...some people love this place...i honestly do not so much. firstly...the place is so lit up it feels like you are caught in headlights and takes away any ambiance. secondly and importantly the food is more for show than actual taste. big burgers but nothing special...milkshakes topped with crazy things...all very nice but not cheap and not really that tasty. i like the decor being american diner and the service was good...friendly waiter and staff. i don't like writing negative reviews but just not to my taste. try it and decide.

wish i could rate the food, but i couldn't even get in. so i will rate their professionalism. i tried for a whole week to phone mustang sally's on their advertised number, but no one answered the phone, even tried on the day we had to go through, as we are far away from mustang sally's (100km +), to find out if they are busy or if we could come through, but again, no one answers their phone. took a chance and drove through, only to be told that they close at 3pm (we arrived before 1pm) and that we would have to wait so long that we would not make it before they close. what a let down, i took my money elsewhere and will be doing so going forward. not worth the drive.

food was good, ambiance was nice... service was just a little slow and it's overly loud when you sit at the back, due to the bar being near by. i'd definitely go again, this time being prepared to wait 20min +, for a cup of coffee.

we always go back for the amazing milkshakes! the best part is you can ask for a take-away.
prices are good for these massive things.
we haven’t actually eaten there as we are always too full from the milkshakes.

i was not impressed with the quality of the food we received. food was cold ordered a rump steak with wedges i asked for medium rare but it was rare. variety basket food was cold. the elvis burger the hamburger patty was off and tasted bad

this is a great spot for those who wana go out, but are covid cautious, as they are roadhouse style.

the milkshakes were amazing, the doughnuts were fresh and the ice-cream was really good. the milkshakes were really filling, but our waitress was really friendly and assisted with packing the milkshakes up.

the food was also really good , we had the wings, nice and sticky.

21.09.2019 so we decided to hit the gautrain and head to hatfield to check out mustang sally's pub & diner.

it was definitely an experience going by train and walking back to the station. we booked for lunchtime, thinking that it would be really busy considering the rugby that day. only to find that on arrival they dont have any tvs in the restaurant, hence no rugby to watch. so it was kinda chilled and lots of families coming in and out especially for milkshakes. they post all these "specialised" themed milkshakes on their facebook page which you can request.

it's quite a big space with a bar section for over 18s, and the milkshake side for the kiddies as well as an extended seated area with alot of marilyn monroe pics all over the walls. the menu wasnt as big as i was expecting but had a decent selection.

for drinks i started with the mango and chilli daiquiri, it was soooo refreshing i loved it. my sisters had the elderflower cocktail and flying fish. they have a good selection of drinks btw.

for starters we each ordered something to share. the portions are very generous i.e. the jalapeno poppers, peri peri wings and the crumbed mushrooms, all served with fries that's dusted with a yummy spice except the mushrooms.
ps. the peri wings really kick butt and everything was delicious.

we considered our options for mains as the starters were big, so we took takeaways. i didn't know what to order so i took the mixed basket to try the corn dog, mac n cheese balls and ribs with onion rings (as we had enough chips) and more jalapeno poppers. my sisters took the pulled pork sandwhich, and the beef and bacon burger with guacamole. sadly the mains were a big miss. my sister broke her steak knife cutting the burger 😱 and the patty was not too great to be brutally honest. as for my basket, the ribs were disappointing, you couldn't even call that a rib. more like 3 portions of a riblet, and the mac n cheese balls didnt do it for me either. i enjoyed the onion rings and the dipping sauce.

i'd definitely go back for drinks and starters, and maybe the milkshakes and waffles. the mains, not so much.

our waiter tony was very sweet, and it was nice that they removed the inedible burger off the bill.

as for the decor it is bright and funky and very retro. the kids will love it.

quality is better over quantity, lack of freshness and no care for the products and for the food preparation process, very disappointed.
i’ve heard such bad things about the food recently, i had to try for myself.

quantity and presentation are wow, but quality erm nope. not recommended except maybe to take kids for a wow milkshake or waffle, but avoid the food.

not really family friendly with the kind of people that hangs out here. i would not recommend this place if you are looking for a nice time with someone without being offended

although this really does make you feel as if you’ve stepped into an american diner, the novelty is most of the enjoyment. the food is big and sloppy and rather monotone in taste. i’d come back for a fun, themed night but other than that, i prefer quality over quantity.

at last we got to experience mustang sally's and we were not disappointed. great place for family with outrageous portions. you have to go hungry.
