lunch at ms. rose's. on a recent trip, we had lunch at ms. rose's restaurant. i must say that we enjoyed the food tremendously!!!! the decor was on point and the service was phenomenal. should we ever be in the charleston area again, ms. rose's is on the list for a return visit. we were very impressed.

good food and friendly people. the decor is awesome, and the staff is very friendly. i got the pumpkin brioche french toast with blackberry yogurt, homemade whipped cream, homemade syrup, blueberries, and blackberries. it was perfect. my friend got the butcher's steak with roasted fingerling potatoes, haricot vert, two poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. the steak was perfectly cooked and the seasoning pulled it all together deliciously. tons of innovative special twists for mixers and infusions. very creative menu! local seafood, ham, greens, and other produce!

don't get the mediocre approval. it's beyond my comprehension how a place like this is in the 70s but it seems to be pulling good reviews more and more frequently, so that's something.

ms. rose's is a little overpriced (still very affordable) but it's what you want from gastropub food, it's classic american with a few tweaks here and there. their kale is a little ridiculous because it's drained terribly but it tastes good, their main meals from my experience are quite good. only been once but they warranted a return, there's a clear level of effort in the food that's lacking many places in this area.

i think i'd skip the kale again because the presentation is terrible, but the burger, sausage and fries i tried out were all excellent and far above the competition surrounding them.

it also features a wall which seems to be largely composed of old plates from the previous ownership, so if you're into aesthetics that's pretty cool.

up and coming. my husband and i went to ms. rose's the first week that it opened. upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately impressed with the renovations of what used to be sunfire bistro. the decor is very sleek, modern and high tech. we started with the jalapeno-cheddar cracklings which were delicious. the waiter came over to take our entree order and we were surprised to find that the fried chicken that my husband wanted to order was not available. instead, he ordered the grilled butcher's steak and i ordered the ricotta gnocchi. both meals were okay and seemed to be missing something. the portions were very small for the price. being that they had just opened and were tailoring their menu to the customers liking, we agreed to go back at a later date to see how it had evolved. yesterday we went back and we were pleasantly surprised. we started with their special biscuit of the day, the sweet potato biscuit. this was my husband's first time eating a sweet potato biscuit and he thought it was delicious. while i thought the sweet potato biscuit was a great idea, the flavor to me was lacking and it was a little too dense and a bit gooey. on another note, the butter that came along with the biscuit was delicious and was definitely needed to add some flavor to the biscuit. for the entree, my husband ordered the smoked meatloaf sandwich and i ordered the sausage gravy biscuit(off of the brunch menu) with a side order of cheddar cheese grits. both were delicious and above what we were expecting. the meatloaf sandwich came with horseradish slaw and a bbq sauce. the gravy for my biscuit was amazing and had the perfect balance of spice. the grits were whipped beautifully and had great flavor. the only turnoff for me was the cast iron dish the grits came in. the last couple of bites tasted very metallic, which i'm sure is because the dishes are new. all in all, great experience and we will definitely be returning again soon. one final thing to mention would be that the menu is fairly limiting, so picky eaters beware.

beautiful setting, not so great food. the menu is limited and someone in my party ordered just about everything on it. no one ordered any of the pasta dishes but we had everything else. the food was all in all just "ok" with the exception of the burger. it was terrible and way over cooked. if we go back, it will be for the atmosphere, not the food. also, order beer or wine, the mixed drinks are watered down.

all i can say is wow! i had lunch at ms roses today for the first time today and it was fabulous! the pasta special with the smoked mozzarella was to die for! at the suggestion of our waitress (she greeted us as heather but the name fern? was listed on the bill)...who was very friendly and knowledgeable...we tried the mushroom turnovers and had two deserts: carrot cake and chocolate cake. they were all excellent! we will definitely be returning very soon. oh, and the prices were very reasonable for top notch homemade dishes. all together our bill was under $40.

don't recommend. i ate dinner there and the menu is limited! i had the hamburger which came on a bun that was hard and the burger was burnt, not to mention it is the size of a slider! my boyfriend was very disappointed with rueben. there are so many better restaurants in charleston!

out of this world food (flavortown part duex). allow me to make this review brief. though the review for this restaurant deserves to be as long and as enthusiastic as the review from my colleague mr.wright. ms. rose's simply has phenomenal food. the rib's were fall off the bone tender, the fries were the best i have had in charleston and the grilled brussel sprouts were absolutely delicious. i'm not big on dessert but their carrot cake was unbelievably good. also the modern decor is great and the ambiance is relaxed.
myself and my colleagues were honored to meet chief jordan and very fortunate to have casey as our waitress. i have honestly not been this excited about a restaurant in a long time. i will undoubtedly be a regular of this establishment and i eagerly look forward to my next visit to ms. rose's.

the white house of flavortown. myself and two co-workers, all expressed foodies, decided to try this hip looking new joint near our office in west ashley. we thought the menu looked decent and inventive and figured if the menu was so simple then the food would must be decent. i don't think there is anyway i could have prepared myself for this place...

from the moment we walked in we received a warm greeting and were seated quickly and before we had a chance to soak up the hip, eclectic atmosphere we were greeted by our server, casey (hope i spelled it right), and this young woman was awesome. she was friendly, courteous, she fed on our excitement and mood and her service only got better as the meal went on. i don't think we even had a chance to want something before it was presented. she was also very knowledgeable about the menu and offered us great insight as to what was delicious. just from her descriptions and the menu we were excited to the point of giddiness for our food. then it happened....

the first appetizers came out and bite by bite our mind began to be blown. we had a plate of the jalapeno cheddar cracklins, which were the most amazing fried pork pieces i ever put in my mouth. they were the size of softballs, as light and airy as a cloud, and rich in flavor. the bowl full was about 8-9 inches tall. then we had our first taste of the beef-fat fries and our outlook on fries in this world was changed forever, simply amazing! the mayo that came to dip them in was made in-house and super silky and delicious, and then the next flavor explosion surprise happened.... we decided to squirt some ketchup on our plates... oh big deal, ketchup... it was a big deal! the flavor of the homemade ketchup practically knocked me out of my seat it was so creative and delectable. we were all so taken away at this point we were practically shaking in our seats waiting for our meals to come out.

i ordered the fried chicken biscuit, with egg, cheddar cheese, slab bacon, house-made pickles and basil. from top to bottom it was flavor explosions, the crispy unique crust to the chicken, tender juicy chicken inside, sharp cheddar, thick salty bacon slab, the egg popped and covered the whole thing in gooey awesomeness. then i had the beef-fat fries as my side, perfectly crispy, exponential flavor, and the food euphoria kept getting higher. one of the co-workers had a half slab of what he described as the best ribs he ever ate with the brussel sprouts... not your mom's brussel sprouts, we all tried them and they were the most well-cooked flavorfull sprouts we ever had, all of us agreed. then my other co-worked had the double burger loaded with everything... not just any burger, a blend of brisket and sirloin that was so flavorful it would have been great with no toppings or condiments, oh but it did have other toppings and condiments and every single aspect knocks your socks off.... more beef-fat fries!

not to mention during this entire time our server, casey, constantly refilled our drinks and catered to us with smiling service that showed she was enjoying our table as much as we were enjoying the meal. i don't know if she told the manager how much we were enjoying our experience or if he could just see by the expressions and noise coming from the three grown men now turned giddy children from their food, but the manager came over to inquire about our experience. at which point we raved and expressed that every bit of it was knock your socks off jump up on a couch and scream amazing.

our plates were cleared, we sat in flavortown bliss, then the manager walks up and asks if we're ready for dessert... we were soooo full and happy that we couldn't imagine the experience getting better, then he says that the chef would like to offer us complimentary dessert because he was so happy that we enjoyed their food so much. what!?! seriously in what restaurant does that happen at lunch on a wednesday? of course we took them up on that offer.... two orders of carrot cake and one of peanut-butter banana pie later. and those desserts were like perfectly portioned gifts from the food gods that sent us into food euphoria overdrive. i can't speak for my co-workers, but the carrot cake looked insane and they raved about it and the homemade ice-cream that came with it. as for the peanut-butter banana pie i had.... it was no pie, no mere slice of pie... it was a circular, fluffy, airy, light as wind torte of perfectly balanced flavors with bananas on top that were flambeed crusty with sweetness, a smear of perfectly salted peanutty caramel type sauce and freshmade whipped cream (more like whipped awesomeness)....

we demanded the chef come out.... enter chef jordan, humble, somewhat shy, but he finally came out, and you could tell from meeting him that this food is his passion and himself and his people put pure love into this food. we were so happy to have enjoyed his food that i could have hugged him. although that might have been weird so we settled for a handshake and let him know that this meal made our day and would probably overshadow the pending thanksgiving the next day.

we are all already planning on what we will get next time.... this place is crazy, amazing, awesome good, and if you don't like it then you don't know food. all naysayers should be shot on sight or taken out back and beaten until they can appreciate the food these people are putting out. simply amazing and i can't wait to return. if you haven't been here you're missing out on one of the freshest, most delicious breath's of air to hit the charleston restaurant scene in quite some time. at that i bid you good day.

great restuarant. i really like ms rose's so used it for lunch last week as my president was in town for client meetings. it went really well and both my pres and our client really like the food and service. my boss even commented on how reasonable the bill was! i got 4 starters for us to snack on, which all went down great. the tuna special was really good, as was the ruebens sandwich with the beef fat fries - yes! proof of a good restaurant when you can use it for business and everyone likes it.

best burger? really?. i failed to mention that the person who claims that ms. rose's has the best burger in charleston has an interesting perspective. i completely disagree. i have also eaten them all, and the best burger in my view is king street grill followed by t-bonz (on a good day). ms. rose's burger is fair at best.

"confused!" also. i agree with the post entitled "confused!" went to ms. rose's with my wife on a monday night for a few drinks and apps. service was excellent, interior design was intriguing, cool and a bit "weird" all in one, but the food prompted us to decide we will never go back. not that the food was bad, but the menu has a major identity crisis. in an attempt to respond to various tastes, the menus is all over the place. we started with the corn meal soft pretzels. very buttery, quite good, but not the best. also had the beef fat fried french fries. very good, but again not a show-stopper. the hamburger could not compete with the neighboring kickin' chicken or t-bonz. in fact, we regretted not going to kickin' chicken instead. prices at ms. rose's are reasonable, but the place lacks an identity. food is good, but no excellent. frankly, i see this place struggling to survive with the neighboring competition: red orchid, kickin' chicken, t-bonz and gennaro's all have identities, great food, and overshadow ms. rose's. until the menu finds its identity, we do not plan to return.
