on a trip to the states, my family decided to stop in bellingham for a quick breakfast since we were a bit too early for the outlet to be open. having urbanspoon'd all the breakfast possibilities before leaving, i decided on mount bakery cafe .  dungeness crab benny: poached eggs with cheese on dungeness crab, asparagus and belgian waffle served with roasted potatoes ($14.95) - this was on a board and my dad loves seafood so we ordered this to share. it had beautifully poached eggs and a nice serving of hollandaise sauce but the best part was when you had every single layer with a bite of waffle. amazing. this idea is genius and should be done everywhere!  4.75/5 bowl of fresh fruit ($~3-4): nothing special..expensive for the amount of fruit and cut strangely. there were pineapples, strawberries, bananas and grapes. 2.5/5 overall: the eggs benedict were amazing and i would definitely return to try their other breakfast items. they also have a case full of pastries that looked delicious

i really like this cafe, although i do think that they should use a true hollindaise sauce. there breakfasts would be better for it. i'm sure that the sauce they use is easier to maintain but it lacks the flavor & zest of a true hollindaise.

all i can say is give it a try. i would love to say you are gonna love this place but my taste and your taste is not always the same.... suffice it to say my hubby and i and my very good friend and i love it!!!
there are always negative things to say about places when you are prone to critique but the 3 of us see both negative and positive and we vote.... "try it, we think you'll like it"
no, wait!!!
.... don't go there or we won't have a place to sit.... of course you can take out so.... ok, only if yer gonna do that,

the breakfast menu here is somewhat limited, but the food i had (the classic featuring scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, and coffee) was as good as any i've had anywhere else.  the atmosphere here is nice too.  it was the perfect place to start off a rainy morning in bellingham.

great reviews attracted us to visit this bakery cafe for brunch.

waiting for a table took a bit long even though there were clean tables that were ready. strange. probably the servers were too busy and didn't have a chance to set up a table for us??

we ordered their original egg benedit and crepe with fresh fruit. the egg benedit was the best one among all the benedits that i tried. the cafe used waffle instead of english muffins for the egg brnedit, which was a great idea. their waffle was thick and fluffy that went well with ham, eggs and hollandaise sauce. however, i personally felt that the crepe was not as great as the egg benedit. the crepe was stuffed with fresh fruits. the fresh fruits tasted great but i could not taste the crepe. it was just a piece of dry flour to me unfortunately.

one major thing that i disliked the most was that there were so many small bugs or flies that were flying around me and the food! one also landed on my waffle. that was disgusting! i was eating while i was using hands to prevent the flies to attack my food. geez.... i could not eat the brunch comfortably.

we saw the breakfast at other tables looked great but we still thought this cafe was over rated because we had tried and seen other restaurants that had better breakfast and brunch. maybe this one is the best in this neighbourhood.

mount bakery is one of our favorite breakfast spots. it is a small place. we got there just as they opened and easily found a table for two.

the wife always gets the eggs benedict. she says it's her favorite in town. it's pretty delicious--served on a savory belgian waffle.

this most recent visit i got the biscuits and gravy special. it was very good. it came with two eggs--i opted for poached. the gravy was excellent, and the biscuits had good crunchy edges even at the end of the meal.

it's hard to avoid indulging in some bakery goodies as you wait for your food. we managed to this time only because we were headed to an event with snacks.

loved this place! had the wild smoked salmon eggs benny, which comes on a waffle... a waffle!! so brilliant!!!

the staff was amazing, super friendly, and accommodating for our 10 month old. we sat outside, and forgot a sweater for our daughter, and one of the waitresses offered hers.
i wish we had a place like this near us.
can't wait to go back and try a crepe or two!

not so much. my family was in town for the weekend and wanted to drive to seattle for the day. on the way they wanted to stop for some breakfast and after reading many reviews my husband decided on mount bakery. we fully expected to wait as per the reviews, but we did not expect the staff to be so rude and unfriendly. i also did not expect to be verbally accosted by another patron while waiting for the bathroom. not the the cafe's fault but perhaps serving de-caf or herbal tea to visibly stressed patrons might help the atmosphere.
while waiting we all studied the menu so we would all be decided once seated but our waitress walked away without so much of a "is everyone ready to order?" or "have you all had the chance to look at the menu?"
she was waved down and finally came over. my sister-in-law told her three times she wanted the smoked salmon frittata yet even after discussion of a possible substitution or addition to that order, she somehow ended up with some sort of quiche. not necessarily a horrible situation but was then essentially faulted for ordering the wrong item. no one came back during our meal to ensure everything was fine or to ask if we needed anything else.
the only time we received any sort of gratitude or sincere acknowledgement was when we were leaving because one of my brothers insisted on leaving her a decent tip.
was the food good? yes, it was. nothing extraordinary, but good.
was the service good? no. not at all.
will any of us go back? no.

no frills, just serious about the food!. i really like this restaurant. there's nothing pretentious about it. an easy going small place with full tables of people enjoying food and conversation with friends. lots of locals and university students.

i had the original benny this time. i consider myself somewhat of a benny connoisseur... i always try the eggs benedict wherever i find it on a menu. i thought that mount baker's eb was beautifully presented and i do like the idea of serving it on a waffle however like i read in a another review i think they would do better to make real hollandaise. i missed the tartness that real hollandaise provides. the dish was very rich and could have used the contrast because they also have a mild tasting swiss emmental cheese on top. but it was good. i could only eat about a fourth of the serving. i would recommend sharing the dish with a dining companion if possible because the portion was so large!

i think when i go again i will try one of their crepes they are known for. and oh yes, i drink decaf and they had the best i think i have had!

this place is worth a try. you are sure to find something or several things on the menu that you will love.

a trendy (but not too trendy) small eatery featuring quiches, crepes and baked goods. i had "crepos rancheros," an excellent crepe filled with poached eggs, onions, peppers, tomatoes and a mild salsa, with a side of black bean and poblano soup. i followed it up with a nice marionberry scone (because they were out of peanut butter pie, which i really wanted).

wonderful food - but spotty, mostly unfriendly service. i think they may be aiming for the opposite of "fake friendly"... but even that means there must be some friendliness on their part.

such a charming atmosphere, typically full of hustle and bustle due to the cozy quarters, which just adds to the ambiance. i have been pleased with every dish i have ordered here, and i'm happy to say that mount bakery is vegetarian friendly. i would recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in bellingham. what a gem!
