we happened upon this by accident, just arrived without a map and wanted a bite to eat. the decor and ambiance with the live music made me feel like i was finally in hawaii. the staff friendly, courteous and attentive. we decided upon the fresh catch asfishtacos, mahi mahi, fresh ingredients and a cold refreshment was just perfect. very high quality fresh food with great flavours. don't happen upon this place by accident search it out.
decided to try for a night out for dinner. the macadamia nut mahi and the grey snapper catch of the day were amazing. topped off with the best banana cream pie i've ever had, the dinner was outstanding. merci shay

monkeypod kitchen monkeypod kitchen is a restaurant by chef peter merriman in the wailea gateway center, uphill from the shops at wailea. it is at 10 wailea gateway place, phone 808-891-2322. this restaurant was designed to be less fancy and less expensive than merriman's other maui restaurant in kapalua. it is still beautifully decorated and the dinner entrees are only a little less expensive. but there are more other choices that allow you to eat lunch or dinner here at moderate prices, such as burgers, salads, pizza, noodles, orfish& chips. most tables are indoors, but a few tables are outside with a distant ocean view. the kitchen is open so you can watch them cook or see them toss your pizza. it can be noisy. see below for menu list and food photos. monkeypod kitchen menu (subject to change) $$$ salads: caesar roasted beet & maui onion kale and macadamia nuts spinach and kula strawberries spinach and quinoa pizza: hamakua wild mushroom roasted butternut squash margherita proleta

we loved it. upscale casual eatery, we enjoyed a beautiful shaded patio overlooking the bay. gorgeous. the best dish was bulgogi pork tacos, but the cheeseburger,fishand chips, and mahi sandwich were good. half price appetizers and pizzas for happy hour were awesome and very delicious. we had the kalua pork and pineapple pizza and 2 bowls of corn chowder. great dinner, friendly service. we might be back on this trip!!!! really hit the spot.

dined here twice while staying in maui, and i would highly recommend monkeypod to those staying around the kihei area. if you're okay with paying extra, you'll afford yourself a pleasant dining experience enhanced by occasinal live music, a pleasant ambiance, and friendly but efficent service. the drink menu is well thought-out with something for everyone; ranging from fruity island-inspired to reimagined classics with a tropical flare. i would recommed eating around the early evening time frame to beat the crowds and take advantage of happy hour (both for appetizers and adult beverages). parking can also be difficult after 5pm. their food could be considered by some to be a touch salty, but the grilled ahi, poke tacos,fishtacos, and noodles saiten, were all delicous. you couldn't go wrong with any of the mixed drinks.

i'm a sucker for a good drink. loved the mai tai. really liked their approach to sustainability.fishwas great (and i'm from the nw) . staff was friendly. a little pricey but you get what you pay for!

bestfishtacos i've ever had and i try them every chance i get. my wife had theirfishlunch special and she thought it was top-notch. definitely on my list of places to try again and again.

excellent food and atmosphere. we have tried both merriman's restaurants on the big island but this one is a fav. i had thefishtacos which were excellent and my wife had the brussel sprout pizza. i know what you're thinking..."she had a brussel sprout pizza? who would make that choice? does she have a cabbage "thing" and thought that maybe those little baby brussels would be super tender...like....like veal cabbage?" don't knock it until you try it - it was one of the finest thin crust pizzas we have ever had. we plan on going back before we leave, the steak entre looked excellent.

loud and oily. it wasn't as good as maui revealed made it out to be. my outdoor reservation wasn't ready and i was 3rd in line (not much of a reservation) so i was seated inside (loud!!!). the pumpkin ravioli was bland and unfortunately greasy due to being drowned in oil. the award winning mai tai's fruit is a foam so it's like drinking straight rum. thefishspecial was well cooked and flavorful, but once again was drowned in an oil. it was my least favorite meal during my maui trip, and all of the other restaurants were in the same price range. the bright spot is my server was sweet and personable.

minus 2. just ate at this place and it was the worst place i have eaten at in a very long time. 35 dollars for a 2 inch square piece offishsitting on top of a pile of rice and shaved carrot is beyond belief. we waited for an hour for. table which was outside on a very cold night. we asked for a different table but were told too bad. i think the waiter was embarrassed serving my meal. i didn't eat it and went and bought another dinner elsewhere. don't go there!

wanted it to live up to the hype, but it didn't.fishtacos were dry and lacked flavor. hubby thought hisfishsandwich was ok.

if you are going on a weekend i highly recomend reservations. thefishtacos are probably the best i have ever had and my wife had the pulled pork which was fantastic as well. the live music was enjoyed by our three year old. really delicious but a bit spendy. i would recomend it to my friends for sure.

good food - a bit loud. greatfishentrees and good dessert pies. patio was a bit loud and the inside sounded even louder, but overall a good experience.

awful meal. worst meal on maui. soggy pizza. husband could hardly findfishin the bun, fries extra.

bad food. we ordered the organic macademia nut crust mahi-mahi, dry mein, chili green beans and truffle fries. all of them were sub par. thefishwas flavorless, dry mein was lumped up, chili green beans undercooked, and the truffle fries had no semblance of truffle on it. overall poor food, expensive place. to top it off, i had to return the big wave golden ale as it was flat. next time, its got to be mama'sfishhouse
