during a recent visit to seattle we met an old friend and a new friend for dinner at mashiko. we had made a reservation, but quickly discovered how busy the restaurant was when we could not be seated on arrival. we visited thebaracross the road for a half an hour to chat; which wasn't so bad in our circumstances, but could have been quite annoying. when we returned, we were seated and comped a drink for our trouble, which was nice. to make things easy, we ordered one of the tasting menus consisting of a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and other very yummy things. the food was delicious, although we all found the deep-fried shrimp head a bit too challenging for our tastes: we are more used to throwing that part away. the prices were ever-so-slightly on the high side of what i would expect. the service was friendly and efficient, despite how busy they were. to their credit, the staff did not rush us as we talked and talked. we were the last to leave that night and we are looking forward to visiting again.

good intentions. sustainable seafood is served here. it has to get props for that.

it's a smaller place and it can be difficult to get a seat sometimes. nothing wrong with moseying up to thebarto grab some eats. you actually get great service if you do.

i like the idea and fish is fresh and tasty. depending on what happens, service can be a bit spotty. to enjoy mashiko, it has to be another one of those nights where you take it slow.

mashiko, a destination that has been on my list for the past year due to a trustworthy foodie recomendation. tonight my boufriend and i finally had the chance to zip out to west seattle and get a taste. the place is small an swank and apparently packed so we wait off our 30 mintutes at the divebarnext door (which was the most entertaining part of the night). i was immediately turned off by the two sections dedicated to "american style rolls" on the menu. i'm sorry but i didn't come to this japanese restaurant to eat sushi stuffed with cream cheese. the food wasn't bad but also not great, and most definately overpriced! as a matter of fact we are heading straight to our favorite sushi joint right now to get a real fix, maneki. my one lasting impression of mashiko is the heated toilet seat and nothing more.

are you a sushiwhore?. this is my go to sushi spot. the fish is always melt in your mouth fresh and the rolls are fun and flavorful. i'm a sucker for the red violin and temptation island. if you don't like rolls just select items off the fresh board and you won't be disappointed. the hawaiian albacore is always a hit with my mouth. and if you like to be on display when you eat sit at thebarthan those of us at home can watch via their web cam what it is you're enjoying. if you don't like to wait, be sure to make reservations or show up before 6:00 pm.
