disappointed. first impression wasn't great - asked to move seats because it was chilly by the window and hostess wasn't very happy about that (the restaurant was empty, so it wasn't tough to move us). yyc burger week burger was unavailable. the 23 $ market burger was not very good. we won't be back.

after a friend having a bad experience they waned to give market one more try. i recently went to market, during lilac fest. craving a burger i was more then thrilled to see it on the menu. when we first came to the door the staff seemed approachable and nice but then we had a bit of an issue with a fratello coffee being brought in, instead of recommending anything the hostess said she needed to toss it out. wasting 5 dollars on a coffee my friends beginning to his experience was a little tainted. then we looked at the menu and noticed they serve fratello coffee, so he had a beer.

when it came time to order my friend who is allergic to eggs asked what she could enjoy and the response was a tomato salad or the pork belly sandwich minus the eggs and a few other things leaving her with a bland sandwich for $16. i'm not really sure what is gluten free on the menu as it was mostly sandwiches and served on white bread. as we all ordered, 2 chicken sandwiches, 2 pblt's and myself a burger ( i was excited about it coming out medium rare) we eagerly awaited, being lactose intolerant i asked for no cheese on mine. when the ordered arrived the server left and we all started to check out our food, mine had cheese all over it, after five to ten minutes i flagged down a server and had it sent back. i told my friends to continue enjoying their meals so they weren't cold.

when everyone was almost done their meals, mine arrived. i sat there not even with my chips or anything to enjoy while everyone else ate. my burger arrived cheese less and a faint apology was given. i went to go dig in and i lifted my burger and about 1/4 cup of grease continued to pour onto my plate, then the bottom of my burger bun was so soggy it fell off, and the bacon was almost raw. i tried to still give it a fair chance and it just seemed like a waste so i barely touched it, at $16.00 this was a let down.

the server cleared my plate noticing we all still had pretty much all our food on our plate and didn't once really ask if we enjoyed our meal. we left with an awful taste in our mouths and nothing was done over the meal mishaps. sorry to say market won't be seeing me again which is to bad because i do love the decor and atmosphere.

we headed down the street to local 510 and surprise they had non greasy delicious burgers for $3.50.

i am all for second chances but the way we were treated at the restaurant and the fact the situation wasn't rectified to make it a better experience is a let down. there are so many great places to grab a burger in our city!

wine. went to this restuarant and had a wonderful time. great food and service but i just struggle with paying $11 to $12 for a 5 oz glass of wine. somehow i just can't seem to justify paying that much for 5 oz's even though the wine was good.

the overall experience was great, service and food

short story- go to farm, cibo, the coup, una... theres too many amazing places off 17th to waste your money here. i ordered the bison tartare, expecting, well, something edible. what i got tasted like the condiment tray at ikea. seriously. it was disgusting, tasted like cheap ketchup and relish and massacring what looked to be half decent tartare. too bad! the green sauce that came with it tasted like water. i feigned being full and cancelled my main dish. my dining companion was equally unimpressed with her grilled ham and cheese, which we think contained spam from the weird texture.
waitress was nice & service good, but couldn't make up for the complete waste of my time and money.

gave this place a second try after a realatively disappointing experience and i'm sorry to say this restaurant is consistent. overpriced, over-promised and under-delivered. will not return.

delish. we were a table of three - we had a dozen oysters, the tuna salad, the ham and grilled cheese sandwich, the chicken, the panna cotta and maple walnut dessert. with beers and wine we all left full and very happy. oysters were awesome, great mignonette, hot sauce and horseradish. the tuna was perfectly seared with great seasoning. the grilled ham and cheese had a deliciously soft egg on top and came paired with a spicy tomato soup. the chicken breast was flawless with carrots, garbanzo beans, "parisienne" gnocchi and carrot and sweet onion purees. both desserts were very tasty. so, so, so good. the portions were not overly huge, which is what we like. would rather pay for a delicious meal and not feel overly stuffed after so really appreciated the portion sizes. service was on point. only comment for improvement would be the hostess - restaurant was not busy (we went early at 4:30) and yet she had us at a high top table when plenty of regular tables were available... and then took a few minutes to set us up at a regular table. other than that no complaints and we will be back for sure. great addition to 17th ave.

great brunch. i met friends there for a mother's day brunch. the service was exceptional, the food was delicious. overall a great time. when we left everyone received a fresh baked cookie. which made up for the ladies being given a gerber daisy. just kidding it was mother's day.

disappointing experience. my husband and i went to market last week. he enjoyed his food, i didn't. here's why. ordered beef tartare for appetizer. very good, though it could have used more than 3 chips. for the entree, i ordered fish, which was served on a bed of vegetables with a broth, which was served over top at the table. the fish was really well cooked, but the vegetables and broth were cold. i asked the server whether the vegetables were supposed to be served cold: she said they were pan fried, but that the broth would warm everything up. too bad the broth was cold. she may have apologized (i don't remember), and asked if i wanted something else. no, i said (why can't i get a re-fire of the fish?). $9 was taken off the bill and nothing more was said.

nice place but very expensive.. stopped by this establishment to meet up with a few friends. myself and my partner ordered two canned ciders which were from ireland and ended up paying close to $30.00 for two canned drinks or 12.50 plus tip each. i've never paid this high of a price at a casual dining place for a canned drink which i might add costs about 7.50 down the ave. this place is nice and trendy which means you will pay a lot!

will need to go again.. my girlfriend and i wanted to a bite to eat and a drink or 2. the restaurant is beautiful, the elk was fantastic, the service was mediocre, friendly but errors for only having a few customers. i did enjoy my time there, and will have to try it again now maybe not sitting at the bar, to have the full dining experience.

unfortunately i think the rating reflects the restaurant in this case. i've never left a review so it must have not been a good experience. we went off hours, mid-afternoon, so i can't say the service was bad due to it being too busy as there were empty tables. ordered drinks and meals from the female server, and thank goodness another male server brought us water at the beginning because it took 40 minutes for our server to realize we didn't have our drinks yet! we watched other people come, order, get their meals before we even got our drinks. she was even at the table beside ours numerous times and completely ignored the fact we didn't have our drinks. we shouldn't have to ask where our beverages are, that is her job to keep track of her tables (i worked in a restaurant for 6 years so i've been on that side of things). then she showed up with a bowl of fries and said there was a mix-up in the kitchen. a bowl of fries does not an apology make. she said our meals would then be out in a few minutes, but it was probably 15 to 20. we took one bite, the food was sub-par at best, and when our server came back to inquire how it was we indicated our displeasure at the situation and took her option to leave rather then eat the food that we waited an hour for.
this is the type of situation where a manager should have made an appearance, rather than the fake "sorry" we received from the server. she wasn't polite or apologetic with the situation at all. there are so many more restaurants in calgary i would not return to this one and will definitely be telling others about our experience.

terrific!. i am always surprised to read some 'reviews' one finds on various social media sites. at times it seems that disgruntled or jealous people use these sites as payback, since their reviews of marketare so off base. i visited calgary twice in the month of may and on both occasions dined at market. the service was friendly and very efficient, the ambience and decor is very uplifting, and the food is amazing! not too mention, the wine choice recommended was wonderful. i wouldn't hesitate to eat here again and to recommend it to family and friends.

good concept but poorly executed. there are much better locally sourced restaurants to visit in calgary.. i was finally able to try this restaurant after wanting to for months. i love the idea of a restaurant using fresh and local ingredients. it is really admirable and i was really looking forward to eating at market. we went for sunday lunch. the restaurant was not very busy and the decor was simple and elegant. i really appreciated the fresh herbs in the window and the homemade sodas on the drink menu. despite all of this, i still do not have a good review to write. there are too many restaurants in calgary to settle for a place like this.

we were seated and waited before ordering our drinks and food. it was over half an hour later that our drinks were brought to the table. our waitress walked back and forth, passing our table various times and never seemed to notice the lack of drinks. upon finally bringing drinks to the table, the waitress was not apologetic. she actually commented that we should have said something to her about it instead of just sitting there...hmm. i was not impressed by the homemade cream soda. it was okay but not great. we sat patiently with our long awaited drinks. at this point, we had been at the restaurant on a non-busy sunday lunch hour for over 40 minutes, had just gotten drinks and had seen 2 tables come in after us and promptly receive their food and drinks. of course, they had a different server. we asked our server about the food, she said it would be right out. 10 minutes later, she brings a basket of french fries and says there was a mix up in the kitchen and the food would be out in "3 minutes". again. not apologetic. 10 minutes later, the food comes out. our waitress did not deliver the food and after almost an hour waiting for our lunch, it doesn't come out with so much of an apology. the first bites of the food were sub par. glorified pub food in my opinion. great because it's local, but by no means a delicious meal and certainly not worth an hour wait.

none of us were impressed with the food. we felt downright disrespected by the server. overall, a poor experience. definitely will not be back and would not recommend this place to anyone.

....very juicy chicken, skin was crisp; sandwich had too much caramelized onions in it though so that made the whole sandwich too sweet; also, a monte cristo sandwich is a ham and cheese sandwich, but the protein was more like pulled pork

best food in calgary. i went there last night for dinner and our entire party was incredible impressed with both the food and the service. the steak tartare was one of the most delicious dishes i've ever eaten, and i thought that there was no way our mains would match it, but i was wrong; everyone felt compelled to rant and rave about how incredible everything was. i had been meaning to check this place out for a while, but was slightly thrown off by the relatively high prices, but now that i've eaten there i can honestly say that it's worth more than the prices listed on the menu. i honestly have no idea why there are so many negative reviews for this place. if the prices fit within your budget and you're okay with normal portion sizes of amazing food, then this place is for you!
