we caught up with friends at marions after work one evening and had some really interesting wine by the glass on the outside tables along with an aperol spritz or two and some snacking items off the bar snackmenu(5-7pm). really recommend the beignets from this menu. there were spare tables inside by just after 7 and the sky looked dark and mysterious so moved in for more substantial eats. we left the wine ordering to our friend who is an expert in all things european so enjoyed his decisions while we shared a range of mains in a busy venue full of other people’s conversations. favourites amount the mains would have to be the half roast chicken (for its size ... i was starving by the time it arrived), confit duck and salad, and the ricotta agnolotti. my least favourite dish was zucchini which was actually quite bland despite peppercorns and mint.

service outside was exceptional but they struggled a little when we moved inside and i was getting hangry starving by the time the last and most substantial dish arrived. that said i did come down from my grumpy place and overall really enjoyed tonight’s dining experience.

an absolutely beautiful restaurant with new york trattoria vibes. i was extremely well taken care of there as a vegetarian, enjoying a setmenubrimming with fresh and vibrant veggie dishes. the soft, pillowy bread and cheese-filled choux was a great starting point. next up were various vegetable dishes including artichokes on a bed of chimichurri, a delicious buffalo mozzarella and ridichio salad, creamy butter beans topper with pecorino, and asparagus with a wonderful green herb sauce.

my main dish was a delicate, housemade pasta topped with goat cheese and my dessert was one of the most rich and boozy tiramisus i've had in a while. of course, a visit to marion isn't complete without wine, of which there are several to choose from.

my all time fave wine bar! signature dish mussels & n’duja is a must order, and the rest just leave it with the chef 😋 we’ve dined here at marion for several occasions now for both cosy dates with hubby and small/large party with friends!menuchanges seasonally (except for the mussels dish which stays), but memorable ones include duck cassoulet, spanish mackerel, kingfish crudo, roast chicken. for dessert we once had almond praline paris-brest and it was crazy yum (please bring this back!) 💛💛💛

beautiful restaurant with lovely staff and great indoor or outdoor seating on gertrude street. a really interestingmenu- but don't make our mistake and order the chef's selection! after a few of the smaller plates very disappointed for a group of 5 to be given two large plates of the roast chicken as the only main course . we had assumed with the chef's selection we would get to try more than one of the different main dishes - it was described as a good way to sample across the menu. will be ordering off the regularmenuin future for a better selection and value for money.

fine dine daytime
the breakfastmenuwas not all day which was a bummer. ordered a prawn roll while waiting for some friends and it was delicate but so well made it was hard to complain. bun was soft inside and nicely crisp at the edges. ordered 3 mains chicken, fish and pork and in short, finesse. you could tell it was fine dine quality with the sophisticated flavours and texture. cannot wait to return to try the breakfast menu. only downside is that the coffee is bad but hey, it’s a wine bar.

great, extensive wine list. coffee and other hot drinks are pretty average but we can forgive them that because it's a wine bar. flat bread is delightful- chewy, toasted with a garlicky-salty flavour. tartare is also delicious when on the menu. and generally the staff are lovely- bar short-haired blonde chic who fails at making you feel welcome or comfortable. nothing on themenuis overwhelmingly amazing but it's a pretty solid choice if you're looking for a casual catch up with decent food. i love the unpretentiousness of this place.

very consistent breakfast cafe transitioning to wine bar. shortmenubased on classics and quality ingredients. wine list is smart. staff are efficient but a little cold on recent visits. still a favourite.

we finally made it back to marion for a meal. previously when we last stopped by for a drink we tried the prawn horseradish rolls which left me hungry to return - i am a total sucker for a crispy/creamy combination and this dish nails it, so we of course had some more. this is a must have dish when dining at marion.

it’s perhaps a little unsophisticated of me to say the fried bread with fromage blanc was another highlight for me. the rump was cooked perfectly (fantastic with the curry sauce) and the roast chicken was also on point.

the only dish i wasn’t so keen on was the zucchini on a crispy, pastry base, but this dish is no longer on themenuin any case.

wine tip would be the quealy secco splendido ancestrale which was a delicious, crisp, dry sparkling.

the service was fantastic, as was the ambiance. if you are going as a couple i would try to get a seat on the long bar looking out to the laneway, which i would say is the best spot during daylight hours.

a saturday morning we visited here. you have to wonder when you have to ask the waitress what are three things listed on themenuin one dish. really! why couldn't it just say sausage, tomato relish , cheese and baked egg. the presentation looks quite messy - not to my liking. this place probably suits all those people looking stylish on a saturday morning - but we just came for a feed. coffee was good.

i was quite excited to try marion's, however overall i was disappointed. upon arrival we were seated next to the kitchen and the bathroom at the end of a corridor. from an atmosphere perspective we felt we were on the outer all evening. also any time there was a door opened the draft howled through the area. the wine list offered a good selection however i was under the impression (maybe incorrectly) that this was a wine bar and sister to cutler & co. i felt there was more empathise on the foodmenuand not a lot of options of dishes to accompany wine, except salumi plates. as we left quite disappointed i couldn't help but feel our experience would have been more positive if we were seated in the warm entrance area and felt comfortable enough to linger a little longer.

as an exclusive wine bar and eatery by andrew mcconnell, marion will delight both grape lovers and foodies. set in the heart of fitzroy, we only stumbled across marion by accident, seduced by the heady scent of wine. kindly greeted and seated almost instantly, we were glad we followed our noses. if you’re seeking a good drop, look no further. from small, local winemakers to international bestsellers, marion has you covered for taste and quality. the foodmenucomplements the bar scene, with seasonal dishes that range from small morsels and snacks to larger sharing plates. the flexible dining makes it easy for all arrangements, even a casual lunch for two on the weekend.

we started off with the complimentary olives and pan-fried flatbread, served with a lush dollop of fromage blanc. then arrived the grilled calamari, marinated with bold spices and spring onion. the orecchiette and broccolini stole the show. the fresh pasta was delicately combined with tender broccolini pieces and purée, a hint of chilli and a blanket of finely-grated parmesan. paired with a medium-bodied red and voilà – a perfect lunch date.

i do like marion on a sunny day. there's something about sitting on the street side terrace enjoying a glass of wine. actually, it doesn't have to be sunny. i've enjoyed an evening drink at marion with a heater so she's not a weather dependent establishment. having said that, we were blessed with sunshine on saturday and we decided to call in for a glass of rose which became a bottle of rose and as we made our way through the bottle we decided to enjoy a coupe of plates of food. i've never eaten at marion - never been quite sure the smallmenuwould provide enough choice for an indulgent lunch or dinner but let me say, having enjoyed this snack of a meal recently, i will return for more tasty goodness!

popped into marion for a quick brunch with a friend, was super pleased with the bloody mary which was nice and spicy. i chose a croissant so can't really comment on the restaurant cooking as it was a lune croissant. my friend had baked eggs with smoked eggplant which was quite nice. smallmenuwith nothing that really stood out to me. the restaurant lacks a bit of ambience as it was cold and empty, but staff were quite attentive. i think it may be nicer in the evening. my coffee was unfortunately average and i didn't bother finishing it. i'd come back for drinks and the bloody mary.

the best part of marion is the complimentary flatbread as they're served fresh and warm, with a generous portion of fromage blanc. although marion isn't my favourite andrew mcconnell establishment, this wine bar was lovely. themenuhere is short and simple, and i enjoyed  the whole roasted flounder in burnt butter topped with capers most. true to the mcconnell approach, the dish was executed in a pure yet sophisticated manner. i also liked the house smoked eel served with herb butter, albeit the fish was on the salty side. the cute little prawn and nasturtium parker roll seemed like a great choice too, but it was nothing to shout about despite the fresh prawns and i didn't find them to be worth $10 a pop. my slight let down was also with the artichoke dish as i found the miso paste a bit too overpowering. however, i did find every item we ordered to have very interesting and unique elements.

service was efficient although the wait staff lacked warmth, which was disappointing. i'd revisit marion to explore more of their wine choices, and for the food when themenuchanges.
