awesome restaurant. my husband and i look forward to our visits at the marblehead chowder house. it is a shared topic of conversation at my hairdresser’s and i have never heard a negative comment about the food or service.
the food is presented in adequate portions of deliciousseafoodand beef accompanied by healthy salads, potatoes, vegetables, and warm breads. the service is always friendly and helpful. i noticed that our servers keep an eye on our table without intruding. i like the casual feeling of dining at the marblehead chowder house.
it is an awesome restaurant to celebrate an occasion or just have a delicious meal.
bon appétit

our initial visit back in may was awesome; shrimp scampi blue plate $15.95; dish of linguine with fresh large shrimp swimming in a garlicky lemon butter sauce. my spouse ordered the real crab cake, clean and basic with asparagus and potato.
the $10 coupon from the hostess drew us back in for another early dinner the thursday before fathers day weekend and thought the restaurant would be gearing up for the special day with fresh supplies. my spouse ordered the same ss dish but this time it was half the size and shrimp were smaller. no problem.
i ordered the friedseafoodcombo with caesar salad and asparagus as my 2 sides. i asked damien, our server, about the cost of the extra sides and the crab pierogies for $5; he explained that each extra side cost $2.50.
so, i ordered the baked sweet potato and the crab pierogies.  damien brought my salad, then theseafoodcombination and i was under impressed as the coating reminded me of a fast food long johns silver place, i had to remind server about 2 extra sides. (he spend time back in kitchen laughing and commiserating with staff and not serving).  the baked sweet potato was so burnt that the taste permeated through the whole pulp.  the teaspoon of crab on the 2 pierogi was scattered on top with the burnt onions while the pierogi was so laden with grease or overcooked or old.
i asked the server about the $10 charge for the sides as he explained it was $2.50 for the sweet potato and $5 for the 2 crab pierogi plus $2.50 for the crab pierogi extra side!!! that was not the explanation in my mind.
he should have used that energy getting loud and snarky when he was trying to deliver my sides on time.
the experience taught me that when a restaurant hands out coupons and rewards, with a new owner whose overhead is initializing at month one in mortgage . . . .  stay away due to the fact that this place is now serving less food for more money and all relying on the local retired community to spend $12-$15 on a poor display of seafood. plus, during that visit, i learned that the executive chef was on vacay until friday, resting up for the big fd weekend.
that explained the whole kitchen vs server debacle.

a wonderful surprise! the new englandseafoodchowder was made with real clam broth, not overly thick, with medium sized russet potato chunks, diced celery and clams throughout.

lobster bisque could have had more chunks of lobster, but the creamy broth was sweet, velvety smooth, and well-seasoned.

a variety of warm rolls were flavorful and served with plenty of vegetables.

crab au gratin was creamy and cheesy, but the geese didn’t overpower the sweet crabmeat, which was in heavy supply. the cheeses on top of the casserole were browned and bubbly.

green beans, the chefs veg, were the best i have ever had in a restaurant - sautéed until crisp-tender with shallots and almonds. awesome!

both the key lime pie and bread pudding were house made and delicious. the raisins in the bread pudding were plump and fresh, and the whiskey sauce dousing the plate leant moistness without being too sweet.

for many years this has been a nice little place to enjoy a relaxingseafooddinner and drinks. my favorites are the lobster mac and cheese, as well as their selections of raw oysters. recently, we dined at the bar when we arrived for dinner without reservations on an evening when the restaurant was very busy and the service was, as always, very friendly and attentive.

outstandingseafoodselection and quality. we always visit marblehead when we're down in the lehigh valley... this past saturday, our family was in the area, and enjoyed another outstanding meal at the marblehead. i had the new england chowder, and my parents the lobster bisque... so good i wanted more, but decided against it to leave room for my captain clawed cioppino dinner, which was equally delicious. we will continue to return to marblehead whenever the opportunity presents itself..
