time to hit the buffet!  this time it was a visit to the mandarin buffet and grill in redmond, wa for a birthday party.  it was my husbands' grandma's birthday and we wanted to do something special and we wanted to be able to accommodate our large group.  they have a party room we were able to reserve for a couple of hours.  the space was just the right size and it seemed a little far from the other tables to give us that separation we needed.  as for the food, the price seemed ok at twenty per person for dinner, in comparison to some other asian buffets in the seattle area.  there was a nice selection of sushi, which i probably enjoyed the most out of everything.  some of the food was a miss though and luckily, the chocolate fountain saved the day and was the highlight for me and my sons.  a chocolate fountain says celebration and how can you not be happy when you're dipping marshmallows and strawberries in chocolate?  the service was just ok, as they didn't offer drink refills and they let our empty plates pile up.  but in the end, everyone was happy and grandma had a really special birthday!

came here for a few birthday meal. overall, it is alright in terms of taste. the green beans, fried salmon and mongolian grill were decent, and so was some of the decade dessert. some of the sushi were a little soggy - could be the rubber they use.

we hadn't been in a couple years, but one of my daughters and i stopped here tonight. there was nothing that tasted good. i am serious. the mongolian in the middle? no sauces on it. even dousing with soy didn't give it flavor. my daughters plate had some flavor to it, so she ate hers. some of the dim sum bites? i took a second, maybe even a third bite, then left the rest. soup. yuck. all the way home and since my stomach has just roiled. it was plain icky.

the one thing that tasted fairly good was the potstickers. but they had no dipping sauces for them.

the worst was as i was paying the $40 bill (yes, $20/each for a buffet), i told her that i had eaten hardly anything because the food was so bad. "oh! i am so sorry!" ka ching. any other restaurant where you leave having turned away more food than you ate would have discounted at least one of meals. nope.

most of the food really lacks quality, but i mean it's a buffet, haha. plus, you can get a free meal on your birthday, which i think is completely reasonable to get despite the quality. i think the best option for this place is the mongolian grill; out of everything, i think that's the best tasting.

poor service, rude and corrupt. the food is your usual chinese buffet style with some questionable sushi on the side. probably what one would expect from a mediocre buffet place.

but that is not the main reason i want to leave this review. the problem is the service that is sub-par and rude on top of simply corrupt. when we tried to pay the check came back to us short of $20 with them claiming never have received this money and we'd better pay up the rest, not letting us go to the point we had to call in the cops.

they'll loose our business for good and hopefully anybody else's business who cares to be treated with respect and not be stolen from. i hope that was worth the $20 they pocketed from us never again!

noodles and garlic green beans were very good! add in the fact that they had a chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows and this buffet was really good!

mongolian grill type bar with self-serve meats, vegetables, noodles and sauces where the cook will make the dish for you behind the grill. hot entrée with meat and vegetables, soups (usually 4 kinds), rice, noodles, a few steamed dim sum and usually a few american food such as fries, pizza, garlic toasts.

decent buffet. relatively inexpensive, clean, well lit buffet restaurant which offers a mix of chinese, japanese (average but broad selection of sushi), and a few american dishes (such as cheese pizza).

they also incorporate a mongolian grill.

wait staff is attentive and prompt.

dishes range from a boring, over-sauced kung pao chicken and vegetables to excellent baked mussels, tender frog legs, smokey grilled whole fish and a spicy pork and vegetable stir fry.

if you're not particularly interested in anything else, at least we again have a small but mostly sufficient, all-you can-eat mongolian grill in bellevue/redmond area.

overall: acceptable food. good value for the price. mongolian grill is a plus.

not great. the mongolian grill was the best-tasting food there. everything else was bland and tasteless. i suppose you can't complain for the price.

for those of you who don't know what a super buffet is, it is literally a "super buffet." there are special areas for different types of foods. they have a mongolian grill, a fried food section, a soup section, a seafood section, a sushi section, a chinese food section, a salad section, a dessert section...you get the point. they even have pizza, french fries, and self-serve ice cream. some of the things are just

mandarin grill bellevue. the manager would not do anything about an annoying customer on the cell phone working on his laptop with no food on his table. this is just managerial negligence and it really spoiled my dinning experience.
