great food and atmosphere. the great experience started the moment we arrived. the food was beautifully presented with deep,and rich flavours. service was outstanding and the wait staff were knowledgeable a friendly.. the piano player and great music rounded out the night.....definitely aplaceto come back again and again......keep up the great work.....

amazingplaceto eat or drink. decided to try the degastation 9 course and was not disappointed. every course was incredible. service was superb and very friendly, atmosphere was very cosy for a quiet night. the best thing for me however was the huge selection of whiskeys. i would be hard pressed to find a bigger selection of single malts anywhere else. highly recommended to check it out if your down here.

thisplaceis amazing, i came here for my anniversary with my fiancé and everything from the food service & atmosphere is excellent would recommend it to anyone!

what a spectacular dining experience! we came here for my mums 60th and had the most delightful night. staff were wonderful, and the food was simply amazing. best of all, they catered for gluten free in a very considered manner. cannot recommend thisplacehighly enough!

the service was amazing!! food was delicious with lots of flavours and suited perfectly for our dietary requirements. we started with

entree’ - scallion crab on corn tostados with kimchi and stuffs - such a delicious start for our dinner - so much flavours and amazing textures!!

lamb ribs - the best lamb ribs we have ever tried with an amazing sauce and greens - great balance.

xo noodles with king prawns - the prawns itself was so perfectly cooked but the noodles was a bit too citrusy and we didn’t really feel the kick of xo flavour.

side - potatoes with truffle mayo - one of the most delicious potatoes we have tried - so great with flavours and perfectly cooked with consistent sized potatoes and sauce was the best!!!

finished with a beautiful dessert - torta caprese - great textures with well balanced chocolate flavour with peach gelato, chocolate crackle and peach sauce - perfect way to end the dinner!!! definitely recommend thisplaceand can’t wait to be back and try new dishes!!!

best: crab tostada - comes with 2 pieces but it is too nice to share.
loved: daily beef (sirloin) with miso, crispy chat potato with black truffle garlic mayo, nashville hot wings.
liked: lamb ribs, mushroom cigars.
cocktails of the night: two short one long (best), lychee & rose fizz (close second). an awesomeplacefor cocktails!
service: couldn't fault anything. book ahead if you can. a must try :)

review is based on a function: i travelled from melbourne and attended my friends wedding at malt. the malt team made the wedding perfect . the venue upstairs was rustic and beautiful. the food quality was amazing i couldn’t really fault anything, from the generous portions canapés downstairs at the bar, the alcohol range and the three course dinner itself was excellent. the service from the staff was excellent and attentive. the only criticism i can give is the venue is hot and not well ventilated, the aircon was not strong enough to cool the venue so it was very humid and stuffy inside. i would recommend thisplacefor functions

i wanted to try this restaurant for a while from a great word-of-mouth recommendation, however my experience was very underwhelming. firstly, the service received left much to be desired and the food was on the average side. i really wanted to like thisplacebased on all the great reviews on zomato and google.

to start, the senior waitstaff didn’t look up unless you approached them and were more interested in chatting at the bar than attending to customers which was a major turn off for me. simple things such as topping up table water was like pulling teeth and the courses were also slow to come out.

we ordered the kimchi pancake, crab and heirloom tomatoes and the sugar snap dishes for entrees. mains were confit duck and the pork jowl. the crab tasted like it came out of a can, duck wasn’t crispy-skinned, pork jowl was more fat than meat and by the end, we didn’t even want to bother with dessert.

i don’t like leaving negative reviews but for the prices charged, and a $100+ bill at the end of the night i would recommend going somewhere else where your money and tastebuds would be more welcomed.

sometimes, life is hard. you find yourself overworked and deadlines are looming. at times like that, it's a nice surprise when your other half takes initiative to take you out for a nice lunch to get your mind off work. bonus points for deciding to go to malt dining, aplacewithin 50 metres from work, that i've always wanted to go to but never had a good enough reason to try, and so he took me there, just because.

a very generous 4 but should really be a 3.5. at a fine dining restaurant such as malt dinner would be the best option for your buck.

the lunch menu is for sure far less expensive (still pricey for lunch), however the portions will be small and you may not get the best that the restaurant has to offer.

artichoke for the starter was fresh and flavourful. the tofu while seemingly the centerpiece of the dish according to the menu was instead a paste on the bottom of the artichokes which made me unsure if i received the correct dish. the open steak-sandwich was delicately prepared and the steak was very well cooked to medium rare with a good consistency. the overall flavor was excellent however the sandwich was lukewarm which made it less enjoyable than it should have been.

i am willing to give thisplaceanother try for dinner, as for lunch a better and cheaper meal can be found in a more traditional café or your "middle of the range" restaurant. 

every single morsel of food from thisplaceis spectacular! absolutely delicious!! one of the best places i have dined in brisbane! well worth a visit.

high expectations - let’s hope it was an off night ...

been looking forward to getting a chance to ditch the kids for a trip to malt. the bar downstairs had stacks of options if you are a whisky lover. great atmosphere / pictures of theplacedefinitely taken with a wide angled lens but no worries we still got a seat!
heading upstairs for dinner we were surprised by the pianist (who, bless her, played non-stop for the majority of the evening) and the dining room - great atmosphere.
got slightly concerned when met with a server who said “hi sorry we are totally swamped tonight” ... umm ok good thing i can see empty tables and i booked a week ago! most of the staff were attentive but sadly one seemed totally off all night. took till course 2 of our 9 course degustation to be asked if we would like a drink...
but the water glasses were always full so that’s a big plus in my book
the standout dish was a mushroom course - from memory jerusalem artichokes and soft egg yolk. lovely.
then came some big problems with over-seasoning. a seared kangaroo which tasted more like sashimi dipped in too much soy and wasabi (neither in the dish - not sure what was going on there). noodles with bottarga. almost inedible. (when we mentioned this dish as super salty when paying the bill we were looked at like we obviously didn’t understand bottarga - yes i understand and this was waaaaaay to salty - (if you can’t taste the clams you’ve maxed out your bottarga / salt points). a duck course required the skin to be removed - again far too much seasoning.
having said that - the concepts are great just some challenges with execution. portions are generous (almost too much so for 9 courses) and the atmosphere is great. as i said i had high hopes and was disappointed - but given what the rest of brisbane says about malt - i’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk this experience up to a bad night.
you give it a go - i’ll probably go back to deer duck

headed here for lunch with my friends given the very reasonable price points for a not-so-casual dining experience. ordered oysters for appetizer (a bit small but i always love oysters so that wasn't a problem), while for main we had roast lamb leg (so-so), barramundi (good!), and beef brisket (this one's a winner -- beef was really soft and the slaw was well-seasoned). as for desserts, we were particularly keen on trying the malt brownies as it's received stellar reviews in the past, and i gotta say it did not disappoint.placeis a bit dark which doesn't make a very good photo spot, but overall still very nice and definitely worth a visit.

really great spot for lunch at very reasonable prices. the duck ragu with ricotta balls has a really nice balance of flavours, though today was a little bland. ambience is casual and comfortable, but still very professional. greatplaceto take colleagues. service was quite good. great spot to add to your regular list of cbd suggestions.

scotch bar downstairs was the highlight of the evening. the irish bartender knew his stuff and was very informative.

upstairs in the restaurant we were very disappointed with the food.
cold meat platter didn't have enough bread.
mrs main was the lamb with barely. there was more chunks of fat than actual lamb.
i love salt but the barely was so so salty it was not edible.

the waiter didn't have a clue about their extensive wine list and we were informed "this was the more popular" of the bottles..
i was asking about the difference is the 2 temp's on the red wine list.

for our troubles and my fiancé not even eating 1/4 of her main (not offering to replace it) due to the lumps of fat, we were given a token gesture 5% off..
i was in better of moods (due to the lovely scotch downstairs) and didn't object. in all honesty at $290 for mains, entree and a sweet with a bottle of wine thisplacewas a total let down. i was eagerly looking forward to visiting thisplacesince we moved up from melbourne in feb, but i was let down.
i will be back for the scotch though!
