luna crepes & cafe

new owner, new menu, new design, new luna. it is so nice to have some place like this in kanata. the new management is great. the food is amazing and fresh. everyone is so friendly and the store is amazingly clean. the new design is very cozy.

poor service; long wait; though nice setting. waited an hour to get our food (and didn't come all at once each person was eating at a different time); no one greeted us when we showed up for the first time or told us how the place works. some of our order was forgotten, but owner was nice enough to compensate us with some free stuff.

the fruit-nutella waffle was good, as was the gelato.

unorganized and rude.. walking into luna's with the past time being great so my thinking hat it would be that way again...but left disappointed and knowing damn well i wouldn't be going through these doors again.

first off while placing my order with the woman and immediately a very disrespectful and rude woman rushes from the back to instruct me to pay before i get to open my mouth. little did she know i was simply inquiring about their flavours.

then it came to receiving my gelato. which was quite the scene. watching the rude woman scoop gelato with a house hold spoon and not the typical "tool" if you will usually used to serve such a dessert. after my 15 minute service disaster, from her not knowing what debit or credit was to not wearing gloves while handling my food.
i received my order.
my expresso was burnt. gelato was warm and milk like in minutes.

i won't be returning unless the former owner returns! also please change to your new hours online. 8am-4pm is easy to read on the board inside the store. but google and the door says 7am-9pm.

a good reputation will make you more money than cutting corners.. with the exception of the time when the world cup was going on, this place has been completely dead this past year. given my own bad experiences i don't blame people for avoiding it. the location is also strange, it's easy to miss them and they're too far from the tech parks to be a viable option for lunch.

despite not liking this place in the past i have given it more tries. it's the only place i know to get this kind of food in this end of town. i don't always have the time or inclination to drive downtown so i desperately wanted this place to get better. unfortunately it hasn't. it started out well then plummeted over the years it's been open.

here's the major problem. every time i've wanted to get something specific from this place, they have not had it. wanted to order a gelato cake, not available. wanted a waffle cone for gelato, out of stock four times i went for gelato. wanted to order a crepe, crepe machine not working. wanted to order a specific kind of crepe and they didn't have the ingredients to make it, two separate visits. the shelves of extra stuff they used to sell are empty. their menu is covered in black marker, striking out things they don't serve anymore and making options even more limited. i don't think there's much of an excuse to be out of stock when there's a grocery store across the street, but then again there's usually only one employee working at a time. given the comments i've heard and conversations i've had with employees, i think the management needs a reality check. if you keep cutting corners, you'll eventually have nothing left. there's no reason for anyone to come when there's nothing being sold!

the worst was the times over the winter when their winter hours were not easily found. their phone's answering machine still listed the summer hours and so did their website at the time, so there were a few times when we drove all the way out to find they were closed. one of those days was my birthday, which added to my disappointment and mistrust of this place.

the quality of the actual food is still sub par. when i got two different chicken paninis on two separate days, the meat was old and dry. it was as if it had been in a fridge for days and reheated in a microwave. they skimp so much on fresh ingredients.

i love some of their gelato flavors and it's the only thing that could convince me to go back, currently. their gelato quality has even been slipping too, however. they don't have as many flavors as they claim and they're usually the same ones. now there are much better places to get gelato in ottawa so i can hardly justify going and spending money at luna when there's been so much disappointment. any time i've gone in the last year i've questioned why i keep doing this to myself.

i don't know if this place will survive, but if it does it's going to have to do some major overhauls. i don't even know if that will work since the location is still strange for the demographic it needs to be popular, and luna's reputation is so bad i'm not sure anyone cares anymore. good luck.

yummy gelato, yummy crepe. we had a coupon so ee stopped by. we had friendly service and the restaurant was clean and bright. we ordered chicken parm panini and chocolate banana strawberry crepe. panini lunch comes with salad and gelato. it was a great deal, very filling, and pretty tasty. i would stop again fir a crepe if i was in the area.

terrible. absolutely terrible! crepes are way over priced for the quality delivered... went in yesterday with a few friends for a late lunch. myself & 2 friends opted for the pesto & cheese crepe; all three crepes ordered tasted very differently ..... they didn't appear to switch gloves between our crepes & the beef sandwich prepared prior to mine (which put my strictly vegetarian friend into a tizzy....) the place appeared moderately clean but i will not be returning as the sanitation standards are obviously very lax (from a 'halaal friendly restaurant' no less.......)

dont go --way better choices. my hubby and i decided to try your restaurant this morning at 10am.comments on urban spoon were not great but with your 90percent like we thought we will give it a try. we walked in not another soul in restaurant. two girls behind counter no acknowledgement or good morning greeting. we sat down waited five minutes nothing, then changed seats and one of the girls came over and said would you like a coffee?, we said that would be great, she said you have to come to counter place your order pay and we will give you coffee... we went to counter ordered omelet and fruit crepe. omelet was fine but for 9.00 you should get some meat as well. crepe was undercooked and to get a refill of coffee another .99. service poor, food poor, restaurant not clean...look up the big pipe at the ceiling is coated with black dirt and dust. we wont be back and we will spread the word of our displeasure at your restaurant.

love chicken panini's. i really like it here. i live in the area and have been probably close to 10 times since the place opened. i always like the panini i try, have never had any issues with service and find the prices really reasonable. i'll continue to return!

i went to luna cafe 3 times. never had a problem with the service. owner was very nice to offer extras at no charge which was very generous. there is room for improvement regarding the steak n cheese. it was a bit dry but i still enjoyed it. the place is very clean and i wanna give them credit for the quality of food. i recommend this place.

a bit disappointing... visited luna last week. the place is nice and the service was ok. there was 3 staff members that didn't seem to want to be there. i had a bbq beef crepe and i knew i was in for a treat when i saw the beef coming out of the micro-wave.(ouch!) the crepe per say was quite good but the filling.. disappointing. also had a vanilla gelato shake which was ok but wasn't cold. overall the experience was sub par, sadly i wouldn't return or recommend it.

luna's. i have been here four times now, and every time has been great. even when it is packed we get our food quickly and it's hot and delicious.

it makes me sad it seems they won't be making the fresh juice from now on, it was all crossed off the menu last week.

great atmosphere, tasty food, very welcoming staff. love it.

underwhelmed. i went there a couple of months ago with a friend, and was excited to try the place, based on good reviews. i was pretty disappointed - crepes were mediocre, and tasted like they were pre-made. the fillings in our crepes were not anything special, and the service was poor. not sure what the hype is about.

if you're sticking with sweet breakfasts (crepes+fruit) or coming for the coffee you won't be disappointed, but i wouldn't recommend straying from their specialties.

super lunch. another first time lunch spot worth every penny. minor requested variations were happily supplied by a very friendly staff member. coffee was good too. will definitely be back when in the area again.

almost forgot.....used to go to stella luna on bank st for gellato but this is much closer and maybe even better. not near the choice but still has basics that i like. long as it is a variation with chocolate. :)
