los dos molinos

goodfoodwith good times. i've been here a couple of times and had different dishes. both really good. the chills relleno is delicious. i like coming with my team! the hot salsa is good.

bad!!!!. thefoodwas aweful the service was terrible spent over a hundred dollars for five people never tasted mexicanfoodlike that. don't eat there if want good mexican food!!!!!

plain bad. staff was attentive and courteous. the margarita was very expensive and tasted like some sort of fruit drink, nothing like a traditional margarita.foodwas atrocious. the beans were not refried (maybe by design, but not good); the sauces were tasteless but quite spicy hot! it was the worst preparedfoodthat i have ever had, and we will obviously not be returning.

meh.. i had the occasion to eat with a table of 14 at this restaurant last night. the vibe is funky and fresh unfortunately thefoodis not. several articles have been written about their specialized focus on the new mexico chili and one was even titled "best place in pheonix to scorch your mouth" and while the gist rings true, this place seems to miss the mark on flavor.

i love chilies. i love the heat, the endorphins, and the flavor. unfortunately, i had a soggy carne adovado burrito that had some spice but none of the nuances or nurturing that a good roasted chili might have.
it seemed the restaurant was really efficient at getting people in and out (service: good, kitchen: efficient) but paid a price for turning that many covers (food: mediocre at best).

service for our group was fantastic, can't say a bad thing about it. he was very pleasant, smiled a lot , and attentive even amidst the chaos of turning and burning another 50 covers.

this place might have been great a few years ago (is it the original?) but now it should be known for eclectic atmosphere and margaritas.

los dos no moz. we went there on saturday, the chips were either stale or they used old grease, thefoodwasn't nearly as good as before, what's the deal???. the service was horrible and they had the music blaring so loud you couldn't even have a conversation. won't be returning.

no mas los dos. we've eaten at los dos on and off for the past 12 years. the service is always poor, but thefoodhas been very good...until tonight. yuck! chips must have been fried in rancid oil. left a horrible taste in my mouth. shrimp vera cruz was bad, shrimp overcooked, beans undercooked, rice is bland. not going to waste any more of my money at this place.

what's up los dos?. los dos has been my birthday restaurant for a decade. every year i come out from california for spring training and los dos has always been where i go for my birthday dinner. i could not rave about this place enough. but i have to tell you thefoodwas not that good this last time. the chips were stale. the salsas seemed watery and less intense than before, the meals came out with the side tortillas that were rock hard. even the intense new mex chile intenseness seemed to be gone. the margs are still strong at least. i'll check back next year and hope that it was just an off night, but reading other reviews here suggests that it might not be.

some love it hot. this is my favorite mexican restaurant. i come out from california every year for my birthday. great, hot, spicy, flavorful new mexican specialties. anything with pork is great. come early and get a pitcher of margs. you'll have a wait.

used to love this place but last time thefoodand service were horrible. won't be going back.

watch your wallet!. i have been to los dos molinos before, and they do prepare great food. but the when i thought their prices were a bit high, that wasn't the half of it (literally). when i reviewed my credit card bill, i found i had been charged twice for the same meal. i left messages for management, but didn't get a call back for a week. even then someone asked for my cc info over the phone and promised to refund the over charge immediately. 3 days later - still no refund. 2 others with me same problem! thefoodwasn't that good. stay away !!!!!!

bland+hot=los dos. ok, now i've been back 3 times because of locals recomending the place. the recomendations must be for nolstagia purposes because, thefoodsucks. very bland chicken dishes (soft tacos, enchiladas). the barbacoa was equally as bland. all you taste is the heat from the chilles, no flavor, just heat. its almost comical how hot they make the food, too bad they have no concept of ay other flavors. the margaritas are strong, but they are made with cheap marg mixer and cheap tequila, so nothing special there. its painfully obvious that their model is to use the cheapest ingredients possible, then try and add so much heat from the chilles and crappy tequila to their margs that you wont be able to tell.

stay away during peak times. waited at the front counter for 10 mins before anyone actually even acknowledged we were there, we waited (6pm on a saturday) 30 mins for a table, once seated it took 30 mins before anyone talked to us, thefoodis ok, the prices ok, probably do better when not so packed..

nostalgia. this review is going to tick-off a couple of fellow "spooners" but it has to be written. i started going to los dos when it opened. thefoodwas wonderful, but something has changed. we went for lunch and it was mediocre. maybe a bad day in the kitchen? i will still probably go for nostalgic reasons and the sangria.

hot hot hot.foodis really good just make sure that you ask for the less spicy items if you can't hang wtih the big dogs.

hot does not mean tasty. i ate at los dos for the 4th time yesterday and i still can't figure out why this place gets such highfoodratings. i love mexican food. i love it for breakfast, for lunch, for dinner, or in between. i love it hot. i love it really hot. but most of all i love it when it has great chile flavors and fresh ingredients that are accuentuated by mexican recipes and hot chiles. i just don't get that here. it seems as if they try to spice up their salsas and sauces with habaneros and/or leaving the membranes and seeds from the chiles in the preparations. that makes it hot, but where's the flavor? i've tried several items from the menu and have eaten countless similar meals at other restaurants that are much better, places with no "rep" or ny outposts. los dos is a fun place, the service is very good for such a busy restaurant, the vibe is there. too bad thefoodnever lives up to the reputation. wouldn't make my top 25 mexican restaurants.
