wasn't greeted by a friendly wait staff at the door but went to the bar and waited for a table. we had a waiter who was friendly and help turn the whole experience around and we had a great and filling meal and awesome company.

what i should have added.

4 weeks ago i got really sick after eating her e so i wrote a short review on trip-adviser something like this...

"i should take the time to do a proper review, but for now just know aside from the normal high prices and midioker service, the food that use to be amassing was over cooked served with instant mash and old salad. my particular dish had 3 of the 6 parts it consisted of missing, and on top of that i got food poisoning.

its why i am not feeling up to a decent review, so for now consider a different restaurant for your dinner plan."

to this i got a reply from a manager insisting i contact him since he tried contacting me on facebook but only found a semi-baron account, which is impossible since i have not had one for the last 10 years (scandal i know) an i do not have a facebook listed on trip-adviser only an email, and i am yet to receive a reply from him on my email. he of course demanded more info and somewhere in his interrogation style list of questions he forgot to at very least politeness for my bad experience.

so what i should have added, a group of us went to celebrate one of our friends birthdays on the 17th jan 2020 around 18:00 luckily we do this once a year so i remember the date, and the place was still rather empty. we had starters after waiting a while ( it was a dinner with friends so it did not bother us much) i had garlic bread it was fine, we then proceeded to order dinner, i had the chicken strawberry salad which have 9 ingredients/parts excluding the dressing. i checked afterwords seeing as in the reply from the manager he was sure that they don't have any menu item that consists of 6 components or more. since you asked mine was missing tomato, pepper-dew, nuts and red onions. my husband had ysbein and mash as he always does since let me be clear we liked longhorn a lot and haven't been to it in a wile, he was met with a portion half its usual size and over cooked as in very, very dry and instant mash. we waited a long time for this and decided we would casual mention this to our waiter when we had a chance and since we do not want to make a scene and ruin a friends birthday party but we did not see her (this is all i can tell you about our waiter since i did not ask her name id and blood type to commit to memory) but seeing as we would not see her again for a long while we made our peace ,took a few bites and collectively as a group decided to skip desert as it was now rather late. when we got home i did not feel well which is when i wrote the entail review , and i was sick the following 2 days.

as for the request by the manager to contact him on his cell number i will unfortunately have to decline the very generous offer and i am fine thank you for not asking.

the food and service are always superb and efficient, but the over-familiarity of a certain servers makes for an uncomfortable, unpleasant dining experience when a couple would like a quiet night out. we barely had a moment of privacy to enjoy our meals in peace without interruption from the waiter, who on a previous occasion thought it suitable to conclude our visit with an unwelcome hug. due to the above, we will sadly be taking our patronage elsewhere indefinitely.

i am not a steak person and normally don’t even conform when i’m in steak house. however this tune i decided to have some.

the waiter advised a sirloin since my request was that it has lots of fat😜 the waiter also said he can get me extra fat too( the happiness!!!!!). my colleague meghan teased and said if she were my size she would not even order meat, she would just order fat.

the service was very slow, i’m not sure whether because it was a bigger group, we were 10. and my colleagues are quite demanding. yet, i still think it could have been faster.

i enjoyed the steakhouse "feel" of the restaurant and the feel within. very cosy spot!
i had a steak on one visit and a burger on another occasion.
the food is always very tasty however the service needs a bit more attention.

best steak in bloemfontein! amazing service. well trained waiters. love going there every time! its worth every penny! be sure to reserve beforehand because they are always full - which is a great thing! shows the demand!

really good atmosphere. the staff are friendly. waiter was friendly and attentive. the presentation of food is excellent and really gets you excited to dig in. food is delicious and there is a wide range of options on the menu. cocktails are also very good and well priced.

only negative is that it can feel a bit cramped as the tables are quite close together and the restaurant gets quite full.

i will definitely be back and i would recommend it. reservations are recommended.

the longhorn deserves a better rating. it's not flashy, nor does it pretend to be. the building outside looks like an office block next to a petrol station, but don't let that fool you (as it nearly did to us).

as capetonians, we are used to pretentious food and shoddy service. but everything about the longhorn grill was the polar opposite - friendly happy service, insanely huge portions and honest to goodness grub. it's a family joint with kids areas and tvs on the walls for the more important games, but nothing offensive at all. if i lived in bloem and had a family, this would be a regular for a "fancy" night out (with well behaved kids under 12)

the food i would give a 3-3.5 if i'm honest, but the service from our waitress to the managers was absolutely on song.

an excellent steak house to visit for a variaty of dishes and their legendary steak that is done to perfection. you also won't go wrong with the salads.

great family restaurant, friendly staff. lovely meal. we end up spending a great evening on all occasions enjoying good quality food and service, will definitely go again

they've managed to get the balance between great food and a comfortable atmosphere just right. their steaks are simply superb. the steak sauces are the best from around the world. we enjoyed their butternut soup and they stock a reasonable selection of wines. the waitress took good care of us and was attentive to every detail. you do need to book!

free range grass fed beef! need i say anymore than that!?! service is in the ball, very friendly. steak is perfectly prepared and served as per your preference.
without a doubt, an absolute must of you finds yourself in bloemfontein!

phoned to book, asked for smoking or non-smoking. specifically asked for non-smoking. on arrival numerous tables open in non-smoking section, and we get taken directly to the smoking section (bar). i enquired as to the smoking area, to be told it is a non-smoking area for the night???? the area still stank of smoke. we asked to be moved to one of the open tables in the non-smoking section, well we might have asked the captain of the titanic to avoid the iceberg. what a hassle, despite open tables we were asked to wait for a table that was "just paying , and would be available soon". "would we like to wait outside"?????

to think of the amount of times i have entertained here on business, there wont be another time. my wife felt totally insulted, as did i, for having the audacity to not like the table we had been allocated. we left in disgust to spend our time in a more friendly and accommodating environment.

previously the food was good, the menu interesting. but alas i will find another better venue for the future.

the locals brag about this restaurant and justly so. their steak has to be one of the top 3 tastiest that i have eaten in south africa. i am a national coordinator and as such travel the country quite often.

please note that bloemfontein is predominantly afrikaans speaking but the staff are very welcoming in english as well. i was made to feel at home.

longhorn grill has a very good atmosphere and the smells that come wafting from the kitchen is guaranteed to make you hungry. unfortunately a bit of a hit and miss restaurant but the management is willing to fix mistakes that creep in. our waitron was really professional and knowledgeable about where the food is sourced from. the lovely decor is a sure fire recipe for a good night out
