my brother, my cousin and i were supposed to spend a lovely evening at the kashi art café. we were on our way there when my cousin pointed out that many of her friends were mentioning this great new place in fort cochin on various social media. we decided we would also try this new place and see what all the hype was about. thank goodness for her constant vigilance for social feeds and for her friends who posted on it about this place.
being quite well versed in the heritage of fort cochin, i was at first a bit reluctant to visit a cafe that was named after loafer’s corner, which is literally where all the loafer’s hung out in the days when being a loafer was in vogue.
the cafe is accessed through a small stairway from the main junction of princess street and as you walk up be prepared to be quite blown away.
the ambience is quite exquisite to say the least. from the peculiar (in a good way) bulb filaments, the heavy emphasis on natural lighting from the beautifully large windows (that provide many a photo opportunity ) to the neatly arranged soda bottles of old and the several books and showpieces all immediately give you a single message; come here to spend hours working or reading.
for those of you who want to spend a very romantic few hours ask to be seated in the garden area, its on a very different level.
coming to the most important aspect, food. the price is in tune with various other cafes in and around fort cochin and hence nothing t complain about. we had hot chocolate and lemonade. the lemonade was served in a nice jar that is the norm with most contemporary cafes.
we had three sandwiches and chocolate cake. the beef and cheese, the grilled chicken and the tuna salad. the sandwiches were okay, nothing to complain about. something to praise would be the use of brown bread, for those of you are health conscious.
anton ego, food critic extraordinaire, was genuinely surprised at this beautiful cafe and considers it, in his own personal opinion, to be a potential jewel in the crown of the queen of the arabian sea and would definitely recommend you to pay them a visit as he waits for his next.
