great coffee & delicious desserts!. we recently spent a week in marathon and in that time frame, went to leigh ann's four times. two nights in a row, we stopped in for dessert and everything we tasted was delectable. skip the edy's ice cream (that you could get in nearly any grocery store) and instead try the chocolate cake, 7-layer bar, peanut butter stacker, summer berry stacker, or key lime cannoli. my favorite was the summer berrystacker- tart and flavorful - though my family raved about the peanut butterstackerand the cannoli.
on our second trip to leigh ann's, the young woman at the register informed us that every tuesday at leigh ann's was spaghetti night! after stuffing our faces day after day with seafood, this came as a welcome break. we returned tuesday for some of the tastiest spaghetti & meatballs we'd ever had. leigh ann spends all day making the sauce from scratch - it's a traditional "red gravy" tomato-based sauced, where the meats are browned in the sauce, then removed. this creates a rich, incredibly flavorful sauce. the menu that night also included a white clam sauce and lobster ravioli. sides included a fresh, green salad with ripe tomato, and homemade soup. each table is also served a loaf of fresh-baked warm bread with dipping oil. one of our family is a vegetarian and leigh ann generously offered to create something special & meatless for her. it was delicious - we were all clamoring for a bite.
in addition to being a coffee house, leigh ann's is also a wine store! the selection is admirable for such a small space, and prices are similar to what you'd see elsewhere. we considered splitting a bottle on spaghetti night, but ended up purchasing by the glass when our table couldn't settle that age-old question - white or red?
oh, yes - i'd almost forgotten - in addition to wonderful desserts, an incredible spaghetti dinner, and a good selection of wines, leigh ann's also sells coffee! and it's something you don't want to miss. the cafe con leche, made cuban-style and flavored with whole milk and sugar, was rich without being overly sweet or cloying. leigh ann's is a full-service coffee and espresso bar and sells whole-bean coffees, too.
if you're in or around marathon, don't skip leigh ann's!
