lauretta jean’s  3402 se division st., (503) 235-3119.  daily 8am-10pm.  stepping into this restaurant is like stepping into an old-time farm kitchen.  pies and pastries galore are made in the back the old-fashioned way, by hand.  don’t miss the spectacular sour cherry pie or the chocolate banana cream.  i still regret letting my husband talk me into sharing a piece of pie.  another of my dining companions had the smarts to order an extra piece to go.

the strawberry rhubarb pie was simply amazing : minimal, buttery-fluffy crust enclosing an eruption of lightly sweetened, chunky rhubarb and strawberry mixture. had this pie twice during a 1 week trip - what a delight!

a tiny gem!. were it not for site's like urbanspoon, i might not ever have known about lj's, it's that small and unassuming. just a stoop with a couple of red chairs and a sandwich board on the sidewalk, but once you open the shabby-chic door, you're presented with a glass case full of wonder and delight. these folks know how to bake! everything sparkles, from sweets to savories, and your only problem will be in making a choice - i wanted it all! companion and i settled for a slice of quiche and salad, with a biscuit to split. both savory pies were excellent - leek for me and bacon for her. and the biscuit was exceptional: just the right crunch on the outside, but soft and flavorful in the crumb.
go, try for yourself!

cute pie shop. cute little pie shop in richmond. grabbed a slice of peach whisky and cherry to go. pretty awesome pie, would have been better if i could have warmed it up and had it with ice cream. can't wait to try some of the cream pies hiding in the back! go for pie happy hour, what a deal!

the egg benedict is served with a biscuit, so i knew i needed to try it and our server said it was a good choice between the two. i honestly think this is the first time i have had one with a biscuit. it was actually a good combo, especially since the biscuit was really good. the hollandaise was good too, very subtle, so not a lot of lemon going on and the smoked ham was perfect.

good pie. good coffee. good everything. and, in a great neighborhood with tons of eateries! a must-try if your'e in the area! open late most weekdays. serve breakfast on weekends. the raspberry/blueberry streusel pie is to-die-for! i've also tried the 'sweet-cream' pie w/ market berries, not my favorite, would rate it mediocre. even so, many options available, which means you should be able to find a piece of pie you can eat w/ no regret! have yet to try any of the other pastries or biscuits available daily. can i add that it's super cute too? does this even matter? maybe. or maybe not. but, really.

puts out some of the best biscuits that i’ve ever had. their texture is neither too light nor too dense, the taste is nice and buttery without a trace of greasiness or heaviness and the structure of the crumb creates slight irregularities that become ever so pleasantly crunchy when baked, but i think that the clincher for me is just how homey they are, as if, they could have came out of somebody’s grandma’s kitchen.
