surprisingly good (considering the location). we just stopped in for a quick lunch today and the landmark diner did not disappoint. sure, the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but the staff and patrons made us feel welcome and right at home.
big menus, lots of choices, fastserviceand some really great lunch specials make this a spot we'll definitely return to.

in the past few years theserviceof this restaurant has gone so far downhill even though i live within walking distance of this place i will never go back. the front desk/hostess stand has the rudest and most unwelcoming set of women up there who refuse to answer the phone its a wonder how they are still employed. all the servers i have had to endure while i have tried to give this place a chance have been slow lazy and they act like they could care less about being there. i'm sorry but the horribleserviceout ways the halfway decent food.

great laid back family restaurant. this is a great place for late night, classic diner food. the menu is vast and there is something for everyone. for the price, the portions are huge. theserviceis always decent but there is a wait sometimes...especially on sundays. i'm fairly new to the city and i've enver been disappointed when eating here.

kind of a meh. went for breakfast and we got several items. i ordered a short stack and biscuit gravy and eggs. pancakes were ok but nothing special. gravy was homemade and not bad but ive had better. the wife got a veggie omelet which was really average. grits were also average.servicewas good and you get a lot of food for the price but the food is just a bit plain

i am a native charlottean and have always known about landmark but had never eaten there till a couple months ago. my husband and i were there twice and enjoyed the food and the excellent service. although the wait it long at times, it is worth it just to stand there and salivate over the dessert cooler.

we stopped in around 8pm two weeks ago, saturday, january 2, 2016, for our third visit. it was not packed and we waited about 3-5 minutes to be seated. when our waitress appeared we gave her drink orders then i asked about the "potato boat" listed in the appetizer section of their vast menu. i had asked about it on a previous occasion and was told both the first time and this time that it is like "a warm potato salad". i was interested the first time we were there but chose the chef salad instead. this time i chose to order jalapeno poppers and a potato boat while my husband ordered the beef tips. we were served my tea and my husband's beer and then after waiting about 24 minutes the waitress arrived with plates of food. she put down a plate with fried jalapenos and a plate that i could not tell what the product was and asked the waitress while she was serving my husband's plate what it was because i thought she had brought the wrong order.

my husband and i are pranksters and i thought he was maybe pranking me because the two brown and black lumps appeared to me to be blacked horse shit. i mean, seriously, one was burned to blackness on the top with huge black chunks of material falling off of it onto the plate and the other was very close to the same. they were two very dark brown, oblong masses that appeared to be burned to oblivion. this was not warm, or cold, potato salad or potato salad of any kind.

when the waitress advised these were potato boats i said that this was not warm potato salad and laughingly asked if she was part of the prank my husband was playing. she said no and acted offended when i said i was not interested in eating that, that it was not what she described, and further, it was burnt to oblivion. when i asked her if she would eat that she said "no!". she huffed at me and said she would "take care of it", however, she left the plate of burnt horse shit or burnt shoes, whatever it was, on the table and walked off. she came back in less than 7 minutes and picked the plate up and said "i can take this away and you do not have to eat it but the manager said since you ordered it you have to pay for it". i just stood up and said i was not paying for that because it was nothing as described and it was burnt to oblivion and then walked out, asking the cashier if i could please pay for the food except for the burnt horse shit / burnt shoes. he was clueless and just stood there with his mouth hanging open. my husband was grabbing his jacket and coming out behind me. i got to the vehicle and looked up and saw a short and chubby hispanic or greek looking teenager or young adult chasing him. he got to their entryway and she blocked him from leaving by standing in front of him while he was calling me. he said that she refused to let him out of the building and i advised him to turn around there was a door right behind him and if she touched him to protect himself. my husband is a large man and could have seriously hurt this attacker. i advised him i was about to call 911 because no restaurant can hold him against his will because i would not pay for burnt horse shit / burnt shoes that was supposed to be "warm potato salad". when she realized that he was walking out she ran out behind him yelling and screaming, then behind my vehicle, while i engaged my firearm anticipating being physically attacked, and she collected my tag number and said she was calling the police. she was smart enough not to stand behind my vehicle in an attempt to impede my exit.

this manager made a poor decision to behave this way. not only did i not pay for the burnt horse shit / burnt shoes, i also was not allowed to pay for anything else we ordered so they lost all of that money that night. if that really was warm potato salad it seems to me that it would have been easier and more cost effective for them to take the alleged food back and save a customer. we eat out more times than we eat at home and we really loved landmark. it could have easily been a very regular spot for us. their loss. this is not the kind of restaurant i want to be a parton of. what happened to the customer is always right? i hope the manager enjoyed eating the burnt horse shit / burnt shoes. no wait, i bet she didn't eat it. in fact, i will bet no one ate it, whatever it was.

we waited for police when we arrived home but none showed. i am appalled at the treatment andservicewe received at landmark. not only did they serve me shit and treat me like shit, the manager could have very easily been physically hurt or killed when trying to kidnap my husband and then by chasing us in such a menacing way.

not what we were hoping for from the reviews. this was our first and probably only visit so we may have come on a bad day. the good-servicewas excellent and attentive. the desserts are massive, with apple turnovers the size of your head and cake slices that are easily enough to feed 3-4 persons.

the bad - the entrees were just not good. the open faced beef sandwich had thin dry roast beef (almost jerky) covered in a gravy so thick and floury that you couldn't eat it without lots of water. the vegetable soup was tomato based but tasted like campbell's or progresso that had been heavily peppered. except for the salads, the rest of the meal was pretty rough. i see a lot of good reviews so it may just be the timing but i don't know that we are going to try this place again.

good food, good prices. been going to the landmark for years - at first, out late with friends, it was the perfect place then for late-night munchies, and now, it's the perfect family place. been there hundreds of times, and have never been disappointed. the coffee is *always* excellent, food is good, desserts are good. (go on fridays for tiramisu!!) every so often, theservicewill be a little slow, but it's never been a real problem. i love all the waiters/waitresses here, some of whom have been there for years and years. late at night, saturday morning, sunday brunch, dinner with family... we love the landmark.

highly disappointing. what a huge disappointment. after seeing the landmark on diners, drive-ins and dives i thought for sure it must be good and then i looked at the reviews on urban spoon and it got high ratings. after living in charlotte for three years and longing for good northeastern diner food, we decided to give it a try. to our dismay however, the food was downright awful and theserviceslower than molasses. the first sign of things to come was the coffee. it was up there with some of the worst cups i've ever had and tasted like water. after waiting what had to be a good 30 minutes for our food, our order finally arrived. i had eggs over easy with homefries and country ham. the homefries were ice cold and the country ham so salty it was inedible. my husband had a cheeseburger and fries. his burger had no flavor, the cheese slice had not been melted and his fries were ice cold as well. this place gives true diners a bad name. we'll reserve diner food for our visits back home to philly where they know what good food really is.

it's for real. you will think you're in nj or on long island when you eat here. this is an authentic ny/nj style greek diner with all the respect for hellenic us culture that we find in the northeast. food is good and plentiful at good prices.serviceis fast and friendly. pastries: omigod!

i lived 5 years in philly and 5 on long island and never found a diner there that is any better than the landmark.

i wish i lived closer to it. love it.

it just....the best. the owners of the landmark diner are dedicated to providing great food, greatserviceand all at great prices.
we are from new york, and we know diners and we know good food. it's not a regional thing. it's a food thing. from the management to the wait staff, it is one of the most professional diners we have seen.
no wonder the parking lot is always full. too bad they are not closer to our home in ballantyne.
