i had the carne asada quesadilla and fried ice cream. the quesadilla had very little cheese. although the meat was good and flavorful it didn't make a good quesadilla. the fried ice cream wasn't that great either.

as phoenicians, my husband and i go to la fonda almost every week. best queso fundido i have ever had. carne asada is also phenomenal. they also have my husbands favorite tamales. arizona natives go to this place repeatedly due to their consistently great recipes and friendly service. any comments about bad service probably came when they moved to their gorgeous new location and they were figuring out their kitchen. family owned and around since 1967--we take all of our out of town visitors here!

hot chips and fresh salsa are amazing. years ago a friend and his family said they had to show me some good food and they introduced me to what i call the famous la fonda fajitas. no joke these fajitas rang my bell and i was addicted. now i have been going there for years have gotten to know the crew and they have taken me on a tour of the menu so to speak. i have tried most everything now and i have my favorites like the treo fajita's, green burro fundito style, chicken enchilada combination with two eggs over medium on top, steak picado... hmmm i'm hungry. seriously the list goes on and on. i understand this place has been here for 44+ years family owned and the recipes have stood the test of time. oh and it's worth it to save some room that fried ice cream or flan... to die for!!!

i can't believe this place had received any positive reviews! i'm visiting from ny- which is not known for its mexican food. however, even compared to some of nyc's average mexican food offerings, this place did not come close! they served a pre- made taco reheated in aluminum foil. their tamale just tastes like sweet corn bread- but not even good corn bread. the fajita salad was basically a large bowl of shredded ice berg lettuce , that had that day old packaged lettuce taste. while i was not expecting to be blown away by the food here or for it to be authentic mexican food- i was expecting at least average american style mex food and it didn't even come close to meeting those low expectations.

great food, sometimes when it is busy it takes a bit longer to get your food, but for the price it is worth it!

dependable. we've been eating at la fonda since i was about 7 years old, and believe me, that was a long time ago!

their food has always been pretty good, their chips freshly made and served hot most of the time and their servers frenquently have the kind of attitude of "yeah honey what'll have?".

i am very pleased they are still in business after all of these years, and even expanding to new locations. but don't look to la fonda if you're searching from true mexican food. they are very good "americanized" mexican cuisine, but nothing the will surprise you very much.

don't get me wrong, i love this place, but let's be honest, it's very generic although it is done quite well. all of their options are tasty and plentiful. (the nochos grande are enough for 4 people easily.)

you'll like it i promise, they just wont be winning awards for originality any time soon.
