amazing food and drinks!. i go to la calaca often. the food is by far the best mexican food in portland. it's authentic . if you are looking for the typical burrito or chips and salsa, this place is not for you. ...the food is healthy and you don't feel like you are a bucket of grease afterwards. the decor is awesome too. thedrinksare too good!!! i love la calaca!!

not worth it $$$. a for atmosphere (but they should consider cleaning the spiderwebs off of all the light fixtures).

b for cocktails- pretty good selection and tasty (but a little weak)

c for service- nice waiter, but very slow. it was so hard to get a drink!

d for food- there is nothing here that i couldn't make myself, and i don't even cook mexican food. the guac desperately needed lime. the presentation of the quesadilla was terrible- it was just sitting on the plate naked and alone. they could have served it with a sprig of cilantro or a lime wedge- anything!

f for price. dinner for two plus 2drinkseach will set you back at least $65. portions are small. and there is nowhere else in town that sells guacamole for $8!! it was ridiculous. if you want upscale mexican food, go to autentica or mextiza. this is average mexican food with a majorly inflated price.

authentic upscale mexican food. good authentic upscale mexican food. the have a great outdoor seating area and gooddrinksas well. tacos and tortas are good but several carts have better, that is not what this place is about. they serve the kind of food people in mexico go to when they want to go someplace nice. so skip the tacos and don't even bother looking for burritos (invented in san francisco not mexico) instead try something new... and by the way every fish dish i have had there has been perfect!
