likely the best korean bbq in northern va aside from so korean bbq. ironically, both kogiya and so korean bbq have the same owners. there are "set" menus offering varieties of red meats, pork and seafood. it's not ayce, but the set menu options are plentiful. call ahead seating or reservations are definitely recommended. small establishment. a bit cramped and parking is virtually non-existent. get there early and always order cold soju to wash down the food.

upon first arrival, it was a hotboxed but aromatically pleasant place with a contemporary feel to it-- pretty interesting. i usually like my meats extremely rare and so i put the brisket on the grill for the best of 20 seconds and swiped it onto my plate. dipping it in some 쌈장 and masticating the morsel with a medley of veggies, it tasted a bit odd. of course, eating mostly raw brisket is odd in itself, the meat tasted like it was frozen for a good, long while and then de-thawed for an uncomfortable period of time. whether i get a bug in my stomach or not is my responsibility, but that tied with fairly poor service (which the place was honestly understaffed at the time), it didn't make for much of a visit. i was glad to have tried it out as a novelty.

such a fun, hands on place to go with the family. we had all you can eat and i had to stop them. we couldn't hang. my little one and i lived in south korea for a year and this gem of a restraint took us back to the real deal. we'll be back to try more meats and get our fill of spicy soups and flavorful kimchi. a must-eat in the area!

we also ordered the bibim naeng myun - a cold buckwheat noodle dish tossed in a spicy sauce and garnished with cucumber and sliced pear. this version was more sweet than spicy, but a nice compliment to all the meats.

with so many korean restaurants in the annandale area, the food at kogiya was pretty average, but the ambience was fun. again, it seemed more suited to younger crowds and large groups.

seafood dumplings at toki underground it was on a freezing cold night that i had an epiphany about this post.  where do you go when you cannot get in?  there are many, many places in the district to eat but there are those select few that you can almost never get in unless your luck has made you a lottery winner in the past.  lucky for this town, there are also many places that offer comparable if not better alternatives when you cannot get into the “best of” of the moment.  here’s my take on five places that are awesome but almost impossible to get into and their comparable counterparts that ease the wait game.

heard annandale got a new korean bbq joint, so we were super excited to check it out. honey pig korean bbq is the og in the area when it comes to korean bbq, but some say kogiya is even better. kogiya offers all you can eat option that features 5 different types of meat, but we didnt get it since 4 of the 5 are pork. i like pork, jus not a whole meal of it. korean bbq doesnt taste right without some soju in your hand. we got yogurt soju. i love how they give u a whole bottle of soju to mix instead of very weak mixed soju drinks. there is a drawer next you with utensils and napkins. this is so convenient cuz i use crazy amount of napkins and i always have to ask for them. pork belly bulgogi – marinated sliced rib eye dak gui- mild marinated chicken galbi – marinated short ribs o-li jumuluk- chefs special marinated duck now watch everything in action! make sure you choose hd quality! we really enjoyed our food and experience at kogiya. not only food was mad fresh and delicious, but also

all of the meat dishes we tried had great flavor, and the variety that kogiya offers will give you something different to try each time you go. the quality and quantity of food was certainly well worth the price.
