great place-with nice folks. john's place is a great place for a comfortable experience with great servers. it may not be haute cuisine, but you are not paying $100 for the experience. the gals serving have for the most part been there a long time and that tells you something immediately! most of the clientele -like me- have been returning for many years...enjoy!!!!

the waffle guy. breakfast, saturday mornings going on 20 some odd years now. blueberries, real maple syrup, a decent cup of coffee, (a choice of two) and the daily paper, plus deb's smiling face and unbound-less energy. about that waffle, 90% of the time it's perfect cooked to perfection, tender with that yeast flavor. a couple of times a new cook will overdo it and i've had deb grab it from underneath my waiting mouth to return it to the kitchen with a few choice words of wisdom and warnings to that unfortunate soul. quality control is pretty good. tried a couple of other waffle's around this town just recently. ain't none better. the ambiance for sleepyeyed early risers like me the best. love the fresh fruit when in season.

great food, great service. my wife and i moved to victoria two and a half years ago and found john's place shortly after we arrived. i used to wonder what was so special that i would see people lining up every weekend just to get into this place. now i know. for over the past two years we have been weekend regulars at john's place. the food has always been excellent, the coffee is always fresh and hot and my cup is never empty. as if that isn't enough john's place has the best staff in town, they are always attentive and friendly and greet everyone with a warm smile.
we bring out friends and family to john's place everytime they are in town for a visit and no one has ever been disappointed with the experience.

my compliments. without really planning to, i have , for the past year , become a saturday morning regular in a back booth. there are so many options on the menu, it will take several more years to try them all. your dark roast coffee is superb. it is well worth the drive from shawnigan lake and risking the wrath of victoria's parking vultures to begin my saturdays with breakfast at john's place. see you again soon. farmer dave.

home.... ...only a few nmore days and i'll be "home" standing in a justified line up patiently waiting to be seated ina pine booth close to the jukebox where bob marley sings his soothing melodies of "redemption songs".

an intoxicating aroma wafting from the kitchen through a packed house...the world is right and all my worries are gone, if only for the moment it was worth the long trip home to victoria and my first stop every trip....john's place!

23 years and counting !!. went into your site to check out a new restaurant then had a look at comments on some old favourites. everyone is entitled to their opinion but consider the place has been serving breakfast,lunch and dinner for 23 years and people still line up to get in!! a group of us having been going there every saturday for 8 years now. we are made to feel welcome, the service is friendly,sometime cheeky and we always have a good time. the selection is almost overwhelming and if there is a problem, they fix it !! john's opens at 8am on the weekend. beat the line up and get there early, you'll be back!!

meatloaf delight. based on a neighbor's recommendation while in victoria recently we came in for breakfast - four of us. the guys at the incredible meatloaf. they were in love. so the next day on our way up island, we stopped in so they could try something else. again they loved. the ladies loved it. so a week later on our way south to catch the coho, we decided to come back for breakfast. it was labor day monday and we wanted to eat before catching the 10:30 ferry so we were at the door at 7:10 am. john's didn't open until 8 but we waited. my husband had the meatloaf and i have the eggs benny.
we loved it and will highly recommend to our friends.
thanks for the great food and the warm hospitality.

have been going to john's for years and you won't find anywhere else in victoria that pairs great home cooking with service to match! it's always hopping with a steady group of loyal locals who are willing to wait out the weekend lineups for their favorite plates.....thanks for years of greatness johns place staff!!!!!!

not worth it for breakfast. over-rated breakfast spot! too pricey for the quality, and the atmosphere was kind of blah. there are so many great breakfast joints in vic, go somewhere else!

the most overrated place in victoria. the food is nothing special and the service is absolutely attrocious. the very last time i went there it was a monday morning, not very busy, and it took the server 30mins just to bring us our drinks, an ice tea and something else from the taps. after that we waited a full hour just for our food. that was the last straw with that restaurant, i will never go there again.

wasn't too impressed. i've been there twice and the only good thing is the deco. i tried different plates and wasn't too impressed with what i got. the service was lazy and from what i recall it wasn't so cheap. sorry but i would't really recommend it. needs improvement!!!

when average over-portioned short order meals pretend to be more than that. john's place is among the city's most overrated eateries, if not the most overrated, in the low end short-order category.

further evidence that victoriaites will line up for hours on a hungover sunday morning for the privilege of paying for big portions of grease, hollandaise sauce and pan-fried potatoes with their eggs.

john's place is one of my favourite spots for breakfast. i don't live in victoria but certainly enjoy it when i'm there. a varied menu. the challenge is to finish an order of pancakes

relax. from the crazy amount of memorabilia to the friendly staff to the variety of delicious eggs benedict, john's place for me has always been a safe bet for a casual dining experience.
