i ate at jan's for the first time a few weeks ago. i'd never heard of it until i went to the grand junction opening. i looked up reviews and most seemed good so my husband thought he and i would go try it out. when we came in we were greeted right away by a very friendly woman.
it was when we met our waitress that the problem occurred. the first odd occurrence was that she sat down with us to take our order. i don't know if this is something they do there to be "friendly" but it made us very uncomfortable. we also noticed the other waitress was not sitting down at tables like our waitress. when we wanted to order we told her that we had never eaten there before. she then immediately started talking about the restaurant. we found out that she was the owner's (jan) daughter and the manager there. she then told us about a pizza she created that won an award in a pizza magazine. this was okay, but she wouldn't seem to stop talking about it, almost to the point where she seemed to be bragging about it. when she finally stopped talking about the pizza she kept trying to get us to order beer or wine. we told her multiple times we did not want any, but she continued to urge us to buy it. finally she took our order. we ended up orderingbreadsticksand a medium sized chicken alfredo. as we were waiting, we could hear our waitress yelling at the cooks in the kitchen and she continued to yell at them as she walked out of the kitchen. she then came to our table with ourbreadsticksand started complaining to us about her employees and she told us how hard it was to get good help. i've never ever in my life been to a restaurant where a manager comes out and complains to a customer about his/her employees. my husband and i thought that was very unprofessional. after we ate ourbreadsticksand pizza we couldn't figure out what the cooks were doing wrong because the pizza was great! best pizza i've had in awhile! thebreadstickstasted great too with the spicy cheese sauce. the pizza was a little pricey, but it was good. we did not feel that the waitress/manager deserved a good tip so we only left a dollar. before we left we spotted our neighbors walking in to eat there too. we said hi to them, told them we had a bad experience there, and left. my neighbors later informed me that the waitress was complaining to the staff loud enough for the room to hear about the tip we left her. she called us inconsiderate and cheap.
usually i love supporting local, family owned businesses, but not when it is run like this establishment is. the pizza was great, but we will not be returning to jan's. i'd prefer to pay for a big chain pizza than support this business.

decent pizza!. found out about this establishment several weeks back on one of my favorite food blog's wibia and flagged it on my wishlist to try it. the wife and i were looking to try someplace new and this sounded like it would fit the bill.

thebreadstickswere decent tasting. they come with a choice of two dipping sauces. we opted for the "hot nacho cheese" and "pizza" sauces. the cheese dipping sauce, while good, was warm but thick and hard to scoop onto the breadstick. the pizza dipping sauce, while good too, would of been better if it had been heated versus served cold.

onto the pizza... visually pleasing and was pretty good. the crust was crisp as we like it. the toppings were fresh and cooked throughout.

we did enjoy this pizza, but it wouldn't be something we would purposely set out from the west side to specifically seek out to try again. however, if we're in the area, we would certainly eat here again!

best pizza in the 'hood. jan's is better than any other pizza in westfield. from standard pies to their famous specialty pizzas, jan's got you covered. they also have sandwiches, great salads (the anti-pasti is the best) and the bestbreadsticksaround. forget the chains, go for jan's!
