iron horse tavern

absolutely my favorite place in morgantown. iron horse has local beers, great appetizers and an excellent dinner selection. whenever anyone comes to visit i always take them here.

i just came here one time for a beer sampler, but there are a decent amount of local craft beers on tap, and i had some kind of coffee cocktail (a black forrest, i think)... i would come back here if i was in the area.

amazing burger! i'm staying at the hotel morgan across the street for business. i walked over for some dinner and was pleasantly surprised to find a trendy spot with interesting menu items and unique drinks. i got the burger named for the restaurant. it was probably the best burger i've ever had. seriously delicious.

my only complaint was that the drink i got - gin gimlet- had to be 99% gin. a little tough to drink, though i'm sure most people like it that way.

always a fun time. great atmosphere. servers are always nice and friendly. the food is pretty average. but i usually go for the wine and the cool setting. great place for a beer with friends.

great experience. i hosted my husband's birthday party here. i reserved a table for 10 and my friend had dropped off his birthday cake beforehand. they were slammed busy when we arrived, so things were a little slow to start. however, our server, ellie, picked up the pace and kept us in refills and checked on us frequently to make sure everything was okay. we had a really great time, the food was superb, and we definitely appreciate the kitchen and wait staff going the extra mile to make my husband's birthday extra special.

the concept is good. usually i can say i like or don't like a place, but i'm really in the middle on this one. i like their concept of local beers and locally sourced foods. the beer selection seems to focus on my least favorite local beers, though, at least when i've been in there. i haven't gone enough to know how frequently they rotate taps, though, so maybe i just missed the days they had things i would prefer. the food i've had was quite tasty, but the portions were very small for the price, especially entrees. service was average. friends of mine have complained about very slow service, but that was not my experience there, so it may vary. another issue is that while the decor and atmosphere give a really modern, metropolitan feel to the place, it doesn't seem their design took acoustics into account. i can hear people several tables away drowning out conversation at my own table...and not because others were very loud, just there is something odd about how sound carries there. i think they have a good concept and some issues can be worked out, so am hoping for improvement in the future.

great burger. bartender was helpful explaining beers and flavors. server was good with menu choices. burgers were great. morgantown needs more relaxing places for family and friends.

bad service, decent food. went here for dinner and sat at the bar. the bartender named leah was slow and showed awful service. we sat for about 5 minutes before she came over. i can't complain about the drinks: each beer/ cocktail was great. we had to call her over each time we needed something. our credit cards sat out on the bar for about 10 minutes when we were tying to close out and leave. i will never sit at the bar there again... and to top it off, the owner was behind the bar/ sitting at the bar and saw us with empty drinks, cards out.. little did the bartender know that she was serving two servers from a top restaurant in morgantown. definitely wouldn't recommend this place. very lousy service and a owner that acts like he doesn't care.

very open place with a mixed modern and rustic decor. party of 12 got seated quickly. but service was a little slow. there was another large group at the same time, so they were trying hard but there were some noticeable delays. the salmon was good, those who had burgers mostly liked them. one in our party got his medium well and we wasn't happy -- but medium well? that's his fault. the fish and chips aren't so good. pretty greasy actually. the sauce is needed to get them down. i'd come back with a smaller crowd.

the bread pudding oh my gosh.. this restaurant is where i'll be during the upcoming fall semester. the atmosphere is beautiful with a rustic appeal. the food was delicious and cooked to perfection, portion were beautiful compared to the price. my favorite was the bread pudding. the vanilla porter just accentuated the bread and apples in a way that i would die for that recipe.

awesome overall. i loved this place. atmosphere, food, service and all. our waitress leah was super nice and attentive. the music was also really great and not too loud. it felt really relaxed, but that could have been because there was hardly anyone else there. we were in for lunch and i ordered the ham and mac n cheese sandwich with fries. the mac itself was really great, thick and creamy. overall the sandwich was one of my favorites i’ve had anywhere, but it was really heavy and rich. it would have been better if there was something lighter or fresh in addition to the ham and mac. the bread was great and not greasy even though it was toasted with butter or oil. the fries were amazing. super crispy and not overly salted. my boyfriend had the cuban and loved it. the pulled pork wasn’t dry like some and everything on the sandwich worked awesomely together, although i would have preferred more pickles or something else to brighten it up. we also tried the bread pudding for dessert. it was moist, really fragrant and not overly sweet and i usually hate bread pudding. i really loved this though because it used a lot of spices, but was subtle about it at the same time. it did really cry out for some kind of sauce though. we had 2 drinks, 2 sandwiches with fries and a dessert for 25 dollars. i will definitely be coming back. it seemed like they were still pinning things down and trying new recipes to create their menu so i’m looking forward to any new stuff and trying it out for dinner.

good start; worth watching.. visited this place for lunch, and the service was excellent. server was patient, and willing to answer questions about dishes. their iced tea was quite nice; neither over-brewed nor weak, and drinkable sans sugar. the limited lunch menu is big on burgers and bacon, but there are several interesting-sounding salads. for one burger-with-fries and a soft drink, the tab was $12.72. the burgers were good, properly cooked to our order (not dry, even when well-done), and quite large. only order a burger here if you are quite hungry. the iron horse burger made good use of smoky gouda cheese that went well with the mild roasted poblano. the fries were adequate. they were covered in the thick orange "crispy coating" that has been so common in the past decade or so. i personally dislike this, but that is just a personal preference, and should not influence your decision (unless you feel the same way about egg-white coated fries). they were perfectly cooked, and neither too-crunchy nor too-soft. it's a clean, bright place (even with some dark/worn/faux homestyle decor). since the register tape had "mountain state brewing company" printed on it, i'm assuming they are the parent company. iron horse tavern gives slightly more polished and less rustic vibe than the wharf-district brew pub location. i'd definitely go again, and i'll eagerly watch for them to mature and grow as an eatery.

delicious food. we went for a weekday lunch and had a great time. service was friendly and the food was really tasty---though i don't recommend if you're looking to eat light :-) had the tots and they were awesome. the dipping sauce could make a rubber show taste good--but the whole thing is wonderful. came with 8 huge tots. i enjoyed my hot ham and mac&cheese sandwich-though the bread could have been a little thicker. it was packed full and very tasty. we will return for lunch often.

vegetarian options. i really like this place, but was disappointed by the lack of vegetarian (especially vegan) options. but the beer list is great! hope to drop by again once the menu has expanded.

ambiance, staff, location...everything else is wonderful! hope the warner theatre re-opens soon, so you guys can get the intermission business!

love this place! last night iht was busy and the staff did an amazing job. food was fabulous!
