i was excited about coming. the thought of diner food taken up a notch sounded really appealing. the whole dining experience was inconsistent. the waitress was having a hard time getting everything correct. refills on drinks was sporadic. the appetizers looked interesting but fell short. the devilled eggs were runny and watery. the chicken livers were tasty but the sauce was too weak too add anything. the spoon bread was more of a custard dish with way too much salt. it was practcally inedible. my main entree of grits and meatloaf was good and i would definitely reorder that. the tomato soup was over spiced with a hot pepper. the desert was good. the lemon pound cake was moist and lemony. the strawberries and whip cream were yummy, but the white pepper on top makes no sense and took away from the desert. overall i might be willing to try it again once the memory of this experience fades a little bit.

looking at reviews before coming i wasn't sure what to expect since people seemed to love or hate it. came for lunch but since it's a weekend they were serving brunch menu. my friend got a burger which looked fantastic and i got the "freakin' denver omelette" which was really good...the peppers and onions were sautéed and delicious. they served a house made (i think) raspberry jam with the toast and that was so good it made me eat my toast which i usually try to skip. it was a pleasant experience and we both enjoyed the food. looking forward to trying another meal here.

meh.. the food, well conceived. the staff, kind of bitchy and better than you, "don't bother me, but i'm smart enough to know the minimal amount of times to stop by and ask how things are".... great prices. they fix mistakes quickly and shockingly with a smile. i would eat there again, but with an open eye and realistic expectations. i'm a bit of a clean freak. when the concrete floor shows dirt and grime from the night before because they don't care enough to mop it up nightly, i cringe to think they have the same cleaning standards in the kitchen. i would advise against anyone getting a drink from the bar, especially with a skewer assembled from the chick bartender with the nose ring. i was in a booth facing the bar. i watched her over and over run her fingers through her hair then with the same hand go and assemble the bacon skewer for a bloody mary. my first suggestion would be to dine there at brunch and incorporate a drinking game where everyone drinks when she finger brushes her hair behind the bar assembling cocktails. my second suggestion is walk or take a cab because you are going to be f-ing wasted.

terrible, bland and disappointing. the bread on the po-boy was so toasted u practically cracked your teeth on it. there were maybe 8 tiny shrimp on the whole thing. it was freezing in there, unwelcoming, and hard metal chairs definitely dont make me wanna stick around n enjoy a few cocktails. and the route 66 decor. cool...but invest in more than one of each piece, fill the joint up! its a cheap, lackluster attempt at a kitschy hipster roadside diner. fail.

nice try. i've gone three times and while the food was good and the drinks interesting the service has gotten progressively worse. tonight there were only 6 patrons and at least 2 staff. both the waitperson and bartender greeted us when we entered and we told both we wanted to sit outside and have a drink. we sat for 15 minutes without being served before getting up and leaving. i'm sure they won't miss our business.

mascarpone blackberry chili, smoked porter s’mores, browned butter sage, stranaham’s whisky brittle, double berry and garam masala. that’s just a few options. i tasted both the smoked porter s’mores and the browned butter sage and picked the sage ice cream. it tasted just like the browned butter sage ravioli dan made me last year (it had pieces of sage mixed in). i had no idea that i would like savory ice cream, but i enjoyed each spoonful. however, it was so rich that i couldn’t finish my scoop. i hate throwing away delicious food, but it is better

take-out discouraged; dishonest tipping practices. i came here a few nights to have a few rounds with my girlfriend. i liked their pub fare, and got hooked on it.

i came back and ordered to go. after i finished ordering they told me they don't like to let people order to go, and that next time i'd have to buy something. being their puppet, i felt obligated (guilt-tripped) to buy a beer. i live a few blocks down the street so i walked there anyways. i tipped on my food (20%, mind you, for carry out), not my drink (because they made me feel unwanted), and then found a few days later they charged me a $5 tip for my $4 beer.

i haven't been back since.

with so many fabulous restaurants streamlining the denver scene, it's necessary to stand out. and even harder to without being "cliché." i could open a 50's diner, put in a checkered floor, bar stools and a soda fountain. but come on, there has already been too many done too well. so it is possible to reinvent the diner experience, like the owners of "interstate." bringing you a whole new experience. a roadside diner, from the 1950's that has been restored and you feel good being there. pbr's served in tall boy cans, snack foods like deviled eggs and mac 'n cheese…or maybe you are needing a little more, so you order the pulled pork sandwich with onion rings. and you wont spend over 10 bucks. and their mantra is all about comfort, for the food, the amount of $ you cash in, and the atmosphere. sitting at the table, i doodled on the paper table cloth with the colorful bunch of crowns, and believed i found my spot. so i would suggest getting of the interstate, to one that will churn you

to tailor the conundrum to fit oh-so-prog-retro interstate kitchen & bar, modeled on the roadside diners of the postwar & space age eras: when a menu is primarily the reflection of a tongue-in-cheek image, with what sort of intergrity can it be executed?
