one of the best philly cheesesteak joints in hampton roads. truly a cheesesteak & burger joint. found in a strip mall off of virginia beach boulevard near lynnhaven, you'll find it. if you're from philadelphia, this is the place for you. decorated with eagles, flyers, 76ers & phillies memorabilia, you'll feel like you're in philly. being a buccaneers & rays fan, a lot of bad memories came to mind when seeing the décor.
greeted by a super friendly employee at the counter, you place your order. with a nice view of the kitchen staff, you can see that your sandwich is being prepared on the spot & not being kept warm in a food warmer. my wife had a plain old whole cheesesteak [$7.19] which was topped with lettuce & tomato & served on a very soft roll. i had the bacon & blue cheesesteak [$7.89] which was a cheesesteak mixed with a bacon & bleu cheese spread. the bacon & blue approach was an interesting take on a philly cheesesteak & i absolutely loved it. with the taste of bleu cheese & bacon prevalent in each bite, there was very little room for improvement. my wife really enjoyed her cheesesteak & could only eat half. the meat used in both sandwiches was ofgoodquality & didn't appear to be "steak-umm" esque. i don't want to say that i know for a fact that it was cooked & sliced in house, but i do want to make note that it is verygoodno matter how it was obtained.
we learned our lesson to only order a half next time we dine there. there is enough in each sandwich to not have to order fries. my only disappointment is that they don't have fountain soda. everything is bottled pepsi products so that eliminates the chance for a complimentary refill. in the end, we really enjoyed our lunch & look forward to grabbing cheesesteaks there many more times. with the ability to call your order in ahead, i could see swinging through there on a lunch break with ample to time to devour it & not feel rushed. wrapping this up, !ggles is one of the best spots in virginia beach to grab a cheesesteak. go see for yourself!
