fantastic food. this is the place to go. the food is authentic, plentiful and fairly priced. the buffet is great, lots of choices and reasonably priced ($8). and they do take out on the buffet, they give you a big box and you fill it up with whatever you like. portland restaurants don't do that anymore, especially swagat. t.ell your friends, the place to be is here

excellent a++++. we've been to indian restaurants all over and this is right up there with the best in the big cities, comparable to the best in berkeley, ca and they don't get much better than berkeley unless you go to delhi. we're surprised this gem doesn't have a website of their own. himaniindian.com is waiting for them

southern indian at last. ok, the indian food in portland is generally not very good, but here in astoria himani is making some of the best indian food i have had in america. ironically, the best is in hillsboro... chenai masala. himani, however, has a much nicer interior and friendlier service. they also have one of my all time favorite dishes: masala dosa. this is a giant crispy crepe wrapped around a pile of almost mashed, curried potatoes with onion and cashews, served with chutney and sambar. it is instant comfort food. the lamb dish we tried was perfectly tender; the spice level (we ordered "hot"), although not athentic for southern indian (one of the spiciest food in the world), did have a good, sinus clearing, kick. the navarathan koorma was delicate and complex. all in all, himani is a real find and competition for not only the best food on the north coast but the best indian food in the nw as well.

sweet, friendly service and the food is especially delicious. how lucky that we no longer have to go to portland for classic indian food. the curries are wonderful. they are happy to have you tell them what level of spiciness suits you from mild to gunga din! the tandoori is smoking. enjoy!

i had the pleasure of being invited to the himani indian cuisine to wish a farwell to a friend. we reserved two rows of huge tables for the bunch of us (18 per table). it was noon, and i had no idea that our little town had such a restaurant with indian food. i've never tried it. we were there during the buffet, so there were many offerings to choose from.
i choose to have:
naan (flat bread to use as a tool with the rice. very authentic. we had no idea that there were people from india here in our small town. then following: himani chicken curry with basmati rice, this was rice in a bowl, then covered with the chicken curry. followed by bajji, a potatoe dipped in garbonzo batter and fryed, then for the sweet part; and gajar halwa, which is shredded carrots cooked with cardamom and milk. it looked strange, but was ver, very good!
it was a fun, relaxing atmosphere, with servers right there to help with any questions and service.
top rate!!!
