heat grill room

wonderful quiet restaurant with amazing service, they had my favorite boschendal chardonnay wine and their mussels are to die for. the steak was also amazing

anyone from joburg who thinks pretoria doesn't have good restaurants is crazy. i found the heat grill room to be as good as any steakhouse i've been to...except for the tiny bread 😢. good food. great views. service on point, thanks to arnold, who looked after me

although the service is friendly and highly attentive i was not impressed with the quality of my salad. i ordered the cous cous salad but what i received was a lot of lettuce with a sprinkling of cous cous. i left hungry to say the least and the flavours that were promised by the menu were definitely not executed well by the dish. my partner’s steak, however, could not be faulted.

i stopped in here recently for a lunch break whilst shopping, and heat grill room is definitely one of the more upmarket restaurants in woodlands boulevard but we had a mixed experience with our meals. 

heat grill room, established in 2005, has beautiful taupe interiors and as per the name, focus' its effort on all things steaks. the outdoor terrace and upstairs sections are known for their lovely views and as such, are popular with all the local diners. 
judging by the look of the restaurant, i expected the prices to be on the higher side, but was pleasantly suprised to find that hey have a very affordable lunch special every day comprised of dishes at only r79 each. think peri peri half chicken, 200g sirloin, chicken curry, hake, calamari, trinchado, chicken schnitzel.. 

to eat, we ordered:
trinchado: tender beef cubes in a spicy continental garlic & chilli sauce.
chicken and avocado wrap: grilled chicken breast, avo, rocket, cherry tomatoes and a honey mustard mayo.
200g sirloin and calamari combo. 

the trinchado was full of fat and i had to keep spitting out the fatty pieces of meat so i very quickly decided to just leave the dish and move on.. onto the sirloin, which was cooked medium-rare and to perfection. delicious.
presentation of the dishes isn't spectacular, but the meals (apart from the trinchado) were tasty and i felt that the value-for-money at r79 a meal is good. 

i do however feel that heat grill room need to be careful not to compromise on the quality of the meals with these daily specials. as in the case of the trinchado, if i had judged them on just that meal, this review would be quite different. 

service was good. the food arrived quickly and so did our drinks. 

*recommendation: for a more upmarket feel on your next visit to woodlands boulevard, i would recommend one of heat grill room's steaks and opting to sit upstairs or on the outdoor terrace.

the sea food platter was to die for and the service was excellent. thank you for reminding me that there is still good restaurant out there.

we tried the heat grill room with a few old friends and did not know what to expect. the food was great across the board. the service was prompt and friendly. great restaurant and worth trying out.

had lunch with my family. we often eat at heat as it close to home and the food is usually good. must say, i was quite disappointed this time. the service from the waiter wasn't good. the food was average. steak was well done instead of medium. blue cheese and vodka sauce wasn't great. the onion rings are usually one of the highlights of the meal and they've been replaced with these strange "onion wedges" which are basically small pieces of onion smothered in greasy batter, not good. so overall, can't say i'd return again in a hurry considering their prices are a bit above average and the food wasn't really worth it.

quite a fancy place this... in fact probably wouldn't feel comfortable going here with a jean and tekkies :) went here for a business lunch and was pleasantly surprised to find a lunch specials menu which was very affordable (dare i say cheap). i had a great steak and good service too.

went to heat grill room for a family dinner one wednesday eve. booked a table upstairs for the view... quite gorgeous. the decor... classic, classy and beautiful. ambiance... just lovely, romantic and relaxing, the restaurant is large yet cozy. the staff... warm, welcoming, friendly, efficient and insightful, a delight. the menu... a beautiful and extensive wine list with wonderful, exciting and inventive dishes, wish a few classics. i ordered the peppercorn chicken breast with mash and it was delicious and truly tasty. a bit too peppery after a while. the prices aren't bad for the portions and quality that you get ... so real value for money and very impressive. ended with italian kisses and cappuccinos, hhmmm perfect ending to a perfect 👌🏻 dining experience! recommend!

after seeing the great review this restaurant had received i was quite disappointed with the experience i had at this restaurant. maybe the waiter was having an off day. the food seemed to take forever and two days to arrive with half of it being cold. the ambiance was very relaxing and welcoming. the noise level in the restaurant was perfect. the food was not that tasty and for the price i would have expected better quality. might try this again but not in a hurry.

saturday lunching with the parents. we were welcomed by the host and lead to our table upstairs. it was not a busy day but the balcony area was booked for a private function a bit later on so it was off limits, which was a bummer because the views of the estate is so gorgeous.
skipped the starter and went for main. i ordered a chicken curry with basmati rice. it was enjoyable but it needed heat. found a few litchies in the curry which was quite a surprise.
for dessert i had the mango & granadilla meringue parfait. super sweet but the meringue and ice cream balanced it out.
service from our waiter stanford was excellent. it is quite unfortunate that the place has deteriorated from when i was last here a few years back.

excellent food and they dont scimp on the quantity. my daughter had a hake and chips off the kiddies menu. it was twice the size of the hake at other places. really good value for money, and the food is consistently excellent.

i totally fell in love with this place. the waiter were helpful in choosing the menu and didn't hover us the entire time whilst eating. the food was incredible and well presented. this is one of my highly recommended places

the staff are friendly, professional and quick! i recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food and friendly professional service.

we popped in for an unplanned saturday lunch and was pleasantly surprised. classic and stylish restaurant, with an extensive wine list and great service. i had the moroccan salad - very tasty and a generous portion. a very enjoyable experience!
