hamburger mary's

camp & overpriced burgers. it's good to see the former smokin' joe's bbq joint occupied and filled with customers, but, sadly, hamburger mary's doesn't deliver the beef. the atmospehere is fun, drag-queen camp abounds, and the service attentive, but the burgers were terribly average. when considered against the $10 price for a bacon cheddar burger (served medium when i asked for medium rare) with fries, the price-to-value raio drops considerably.

i hope hamburger mary's succeeds and even improves, but it won't be doing so with my patronage.

wait time. i wish i could say this was a review of the food, but i never got that far. when i entered to eat, there was a party of 4 ahead of us. we all stood there, not being acknowledged by anyone on staff for a good 4 minutes. the restaurant area appeared to be full, but an entire room to the left of the front door, appeared empty. once a woman finally walked over to the host stand, she whisked the party of 4 to some table. my cousin and i continuted to stand there, not being acknowledged or noticed by anyone for another 4 minutes or so. by the time the same woman came back, she informed us that it'd be 20 to 25 minutes before our party of two could be seated. nothing on the menu was something i couldn't live without, so we left. and i doubt i will be back. mainly due to lack of respect from any server there, and the fact that we waited for 10 minutes, only to be told it'd be 20-25 more! i wonder if those first 10 counted in that total? i didn't care to wait around long enough to ask.

fun!. a group of 15 of us went last night and had so much fun! the vibe is very playful and fun, the service was great, the drinks were fabulous, and the food was pretty good. my martini, the apple brown betty, was absolutely awesome. it was passed around the table and got a thumbs up from everyone who tried it. the only criticism i can think of is that a few of us had over done burgers with cripy charring. other than that, it was a great experience.

fun times!. i went on first friday's march and let me tell you, don't sit in the cocktail area and expect service! but other than that i thought it was a really cool place! i love the drag queen hostess and the kcmo's behind the bar! the music was fun and had the videos rolling too... the fuzzy teabag (lol yes that's what it's called!) it such a wonderfully refreshing yet dangerous cocktail.. i had the burger that was spicy, too may teabags prevent me from remembering the name but it was delish! the fries had really good seasoning... however a friend said the sweet potato fries were awful... so, other than that i recommend hamburger mary's to all my friends who aren't too conservative! and i hear they have karaoke monday nights and i pretty much can't wait for that!

mary may be fabulous but her service i. performing wait staff is cute but getting the customers serviced is what a restaurant is really about. blanc has better burgers and less attitude. in this day and age just being a "gay" business isn't enough to get my "gay" dollar.

good meal. hamburger mary's is a good meal. good sized portions, good taste, decent service. a great alternative to the moderate price chain places in the 'burbs in the heart of the crossroads.

interesting place...great burger. despite the place being full of marys, they make a mean burger! loved the decor, the all male staff was dam friendly and everyone there seemed to be having a great time. we started with the skinny art dip with pita and split a crab cake slider. the art dip was phenom! maybe they add more cream or something, but it was not the average art dip found at most places. the crab cake "burger" was good, but the pickles and plain bun made it taste more like a chic-fil-a sam. i had the fireball burger and did the sweet potato fries for $1 more. good move!! good size burger, cooked perfectly, and they even get a nice coat of char on the outside to add more flavor..but not too much. burger had excellent flavor. sweet potato fries are very good! much better than the regular fries. we also had a chicken wrap...it was good and huge! the portion sizes are nothing to sneeze at, we needed a box. prices were more than reasonable. the meal ended when we were brought our ticket in a multicolored 6" heel. welcome to the neighborhood mary! we will be back.

horrible. waited over 15 minutes for someone to come to the table to even take our order. i had the black & blue burger with sweet potato fries. both were awful and tasted burnt. my friends had the gblt (bacon sandwich). the waiter got the order wrong on both and both said they were the worst blts they had ever had. we will not be going back as there are tons of better burger joints in kc - like blanc burger.
