gurkha himalayan kitchen

ordered my meal for delivery at 6:30 pm. i called at 7:30, and the lady assured me it would arrive within the next ten minutes. 15 minutes later, i called again, and the lady said that the driver was just on his way. ten minutes later, i got a call from the driver saying he was five minutes away. my food finally arrived at 8pm - 1.5 hours later. i should mention that i live ten minutes away from them (in heavy traffic...) after waiting an hour and a half, i went inside, looked at my order, and discovered they had missed one dish. my food was lukewarm at best. i called the restaurant back - fuming- to tell them that they had missed a dish. the manager repeated my order back to me, correctly, stated that all items had been sent, and called me a liar. born and raised in vancouver, and this is hands down the worst display of customerservicei have ever encountered. the food was just mediocre.

the food here is original and tastes good. i also liked the cocktails we ordered.servicewas excellent, as well. all in all, i can hardly think of a reason to not recommend this place!

dissapointed. -waitress friendly, butservicewas low.
-waitress very slow, and coughed all over the food. didn't cover her mouth when coughing.
- food mediocre. whole wheat roti super disappointing. it was so hard and rough though it was plaster... and it was cold. i suspect it may have been leftovers from last nights dinner service.
- ordered an entrée. the sherpa chicken. expected to have rice included with it. got a mini bowl of soupy chicken with no rice. tasted not bad but soupy.
- kebab appetizer was great. reminds me of souvlaki.
-smaller portions than i expected for the price.

awesome outdoor seating. i really like this place. the food was delicious and affordable. theservicewas fast and friendly. the outdoor seating in the back is awesome. i will be back.

the decore had a peaceful, warm and beautiful ambiance, with a delicious aroma in the air. i came in expecting poorservicethanks to some of the reviews on uspoon, however i was pleasantly surprised. our waitress graciously greeted us and was very helpful in choosing menu items with us. the food was delicious, my one complaint was that it was quite pricey for the serving size but still filling. i would definitely come back and recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks - or doesn't!

service i like :) exceptionalservicefrom the waiter who may also be the owner just because he was very attentive. we came 30 minutes before the lunch hour closes but he did not even hint to us about having to close for lunch like most places would do nowadays. even though the restaurant was busy, the waiter made sure to check on us occasionally. best part is that when i left my phone here, he actually came outside in the rain to return it to me :d. dalai lama momos (deep-fried)  i like :) these were really good. it was vegetarian, but quite meaty and filling. my second favourite tofu dish (second to the reef's mo-ca burger with jerk tofu ).  palpali paneer don't like :( too creamy and lacking in flavour. was similar to shahi paneer, but definitely not as good. tibetan bun i don't like :( i was really expecting more from this bun, but it was just bland and slightly sweet. kind of like the buns you can get at the chinese bakeries here, but not as good.  will i be back? yes. i'd love to

overall – the food here is delicious. the setting is wonderful. theserviceis terrible. the portions are small. would i come here again? i’m still thinking about those momos, so yes.

great food here !. we wanted something special for diner . boy did we find what we were looking for !servicewas a1 , and the food even better. we are on our way back soon, and are bringing a small group with us .

the food is super fresh with excellent flavor. momos are the best i've had.serviceprompt & friendly. the chef came out to chat too 5 stars!!

-poor customer service. i arrived at 8:30pm and placed a take-out order and there were customers there but it was not packed. i was told by the cashier(male who has a daytime job as a banker) it would take approximately 30 mins. i went down and sat in my car but i left my business card card with my number so he give me a call when my order was ready. after 35 mins i went back in to pick up my order. it was not ready. at this point, the waiter offered me a glass of wine and i asked again about my order as i don't drink and was in a hurry. he said my order would be ready in two more minutes. i waited another 25 mins for order. this made the total wait time 65 mins for a take out order. i had already paid my $36 bill plus a three dollar tip even though it was take out. i patiently waited. i received a ticket for waiting in the shopper's drug parking lot. the customerservicewas unbelievably poor. he did not appear to be truly concerned about the poor customerservicethey had just provided to me. i asked to be compensated for the poorserviceand they offered me a free potato-something appetizer but no more. i felt absolutely foolish sitting there and trying to be nice when in fact i should have been more vocal and perhaps i should have even walked away but for certain i should not have had to pay for waiting one hour and five minutes for take-out food. i could not recommend this restaurant to anyone. i asked the waiter to tell the owner about my concerns and that a free meal was in order for the poorserviceand he stated that there was nothing that could be done about it. having worked in theserviceindustry all my life, this is the absolute worst restaurant customerservicei have ever experienced. at no point did he admit that they made a mistake. appalling!!!!!!!!

really happy we checked it out!. didn't want to trek far so we decided on gurkha and it's a new favourite! really good appy's (taas and steamed veggie dumplings) and shared the chicken curry and the pan fried meat dumplings as a main. everything was flavourful and not greasy or overly spicy (though you specify your spice levels and we went for mild). we shared the nepalese milk/pistachio dessert, which was awesome.servicevery welcoming and the chef even came out later and did a walk around to see that everyone was happy. will definitely return!

what a great spot on davie !. stuck in vancouver for three months, so i'm making the best of it via the restaurants in town. i have now been to sixteen different establishments, and easily the best has been gurkha himalayan kitchen. it is the only restaurant i have revisited, and i plan on going more. once you try taas as an appetizer, you will be hooked too. i have had the momo's, sherpa chicken, goat stew, and the vegetarian curry dinner special. the flavors the chef creates are so deep. you don't just take a bite of food and swallow. you enjoy the layered tastes, the different textures in the bite, the spice in the dish. the flavors, while slightly familiar, were very new to me.

not only is the food stellar, theserviceis fantastic. they are patient, informative, and helpful. the second time i went, it was quite early for dinner. the chef actually came out and explained the dishes to me and allowed me to choose the spice level of my liking. i know once it got busy he wouldn't be able to do that but him being so aware of his customers was great to see.

please, do yourself a favor. don't walk by or ignore this great spot to eat. it is treat to find a new place that is so in touch with what makes a successful restaurant. fabulous food, greatservicestaff, good value.

ps you have to try the taas !!
