best guacamole around. made fresh to order. want more heat? no problem. i always order the same thing when i go - barbeque quail. i know. sounds weird for a mexican restaurant but it is awesome. filleted, marinated and grilled it is moist and flavorful. i highly recommend this dish. expect line-ups on the weekend. they do not take reservations.

good basic mexican, family friendly, speedy and friendly service. i had sizzling fajitas and sizzle they did.

gluten free beware. the good news is that they have a gluten free menu for us with celiac disease and that is commendable. the bad news is that most of the waiters, cooks, hostesses and managers have no idea what it is for. i placed my order off of the separate gluten free menu, explained my situation and was assured that all would be well. my first course arrived with plenty of gluten. i explained again my situation, everybody apologized and remade the first course. this happened twice more, like it was a sitcom and my dinner was the episode's running gag. eventually i got all my food the right way but nothing was comped, the meal took forever and i won't be going back.

it should be noted that the food was good when finally prepared properly and my wife, who does not have celiac, enjoyed her food. if you have celiac and go to guapo's, ask to have a waiter or waitress that knows the situation ahead of time. if you can't find one, try either bonsai grill or thai shirlington as they both have their a game on 100% of the time.

we stuck with simple appetizers and margaritas so i can't speak for the main dishes but the apps were a win. ceviche was fresh and super lime-y. the shrimp with buttery wine sauce was irresistible with bread soaking it up. the margaritas weren't the best i've had but they were decent and i didn't notice as much how overly sweet they were as i gobbled up chunky guacamole. i wish i could go back now for a main dish!

best salsa i've ever had! the wait staff was very nice and friendly. anything we needed, they ran to get. food was fresh and very good. a must stop when you are in the area.

the whole shirlington area is great for anyone vacationing around dc - it's easy to get to and there is a wide variety of places to eat. my family of 6 decided to eat at guapo's one evening. we all were pleased with our meals. they tasted great and the servers were very attentive and helpful.

good margaritas, ok salsa, fresh tortillas, very good fajitas. sat outdoors on a nice sunday afternoon. a bit pricey. enjoyed it.

i went this past saturday and the scene was popping(nice atmosphere and crowd). the weather was okay so i decided to wait the twenty minutes for a table on the patio versus no wait for inside seating. i waited outside for the twenty minutes until the buzzer that was given to me buzzed then went in to the hostess. the hostess then told us that the patio was now closed and that we would have to take seating inside. cool whatever. we were seated and pressured by the waiter for our drink and food orders after telling him to give us a few minutes several times. overall the drinks were overpriced. the portion of the food wasn't great and the taste just average. probably won't return.

wow most tender steak taco i have ever had. pieces of steak were large and perfectly cooked med rare. i asked for the more traditional corn tortillas which they gladly gave me. came with guacamole which is a bonus in americanized restaurants. will definitely return!

excellent! the fajitas were the best i've tasted. full strips of grilled chicken and steak, excellent guacamole, rice and beans awesome! flan light, smooth and creamy. very good, fast service! i'll be back!

don't go. after not receiving what i ordered three times in a row, the manager was incredibly rude, made no apology and questioned the servers in front of me, which was very awkward. i left with no food and no service.

this is one of my favorite restaurants. i love love love their guacamole. they make it fresh when you order it and you can specify if you want more heat. i usually order the grilled quail. ya, quail in a mexican restaurant. it is marinated and always cooked to perfection. i highly recommend this restaurant. be forewarned, if you get there after 6:30, there are line-ups on fridays and saturdays and often during the week.

best mexican food in virginia?. this very well might be the best mexican food in the d.c. area.

the food was light and delicious, from the chips to the tamales. excellent and highly recommended!
