my favourite. this has been my lunch favourite for a few years, i find the food very reliable, and i'm always taken back to europe. the spaghetti bolognese is the best i have ever ever had, and i usually get a half-half orange and grapefruit juice. would love to come in and try the breakfast one day. the service is pretty good though sometimes i have to wait for the older waiter to finish chatting to his regulars before taking my order.

cellar bar is perhaps the most modest and accessible restaurant in grossi’s group of eateries. mains range from $18 to $26 and the menu is made up of simple, traditional italian fare like fresh pastas, cotolette di vitello (crumbed veal), eggplant parmigiana and a range of seafood and fish dishes.

inconsistent. i'm a semi regular customer to the cellar bar. last night i came in and i was sitting there for 5 min before i was given a menu, and then i waited another 15 min and still no one had taken my drink order or meal order. i ended up walking out and no one even noticed! the staff seemed very disinterested in my business. i had to go to pelligrini's instead! (i ordered the lasanga and they didn't give me a knife! i had to eat it with just a fork!)

fine dining at its best wonderful cheaper options for a politely full serving - the chocolate pear dessert and gorgonzola gnocchi are the best - highly recommended for a quiet friend catchup with friendly attentive waiters - stunning cosy decor and absolute must

melbourne establishment. i can't visit melbourne without coming here to have their gnocchi with gorgonzola - i can't make them this good at home (yet!) and i can't find anything like it as cheap and as good back in perth.

i've tried the grill before (was fantastic!) and will one day try upstairs!

i had to go because it is the only other place i have seen crumpets on a menu. they were ok, came out with honeycomb butter and honey, but all i kept thinking was "where's my peanut gravel!?"

i went for a simple yet bold spaghetti vongole ($18), which was breathtakingly good. the slippery and al dente noodles shared the stage with briny clams, and were subtly flavoured with garlic, herbs, and chilli. it was drowned in generous glugs of extra virgin olive oil, the leftovers of which i soaked up with chunks of focaccia.

are you being served?. i dined at the cellar recently with my wife and two children and enjoyed every moment. the ambience, food and service were first rate and reminded me of my youth when we used to go the "special" italian restaurant. as grossi takes no bookings i was a bit apprehensive but the bistro operates like a well oiled machine so its worth taking your chances and enjoying a vino at the bar if need be. every waiter should dine here just to experience attentive, personal and effecient service. thanks again!

great dinner out. antipasto platter was excellent! had a great range of items on the plate with varying flavours adn textures. my personal highlight was the salami, superb! great start to the meal following the complimentary foccacia style bread with olive oil. mains on our table included the veal and pork cannelloni special which had great meaty flavour balanced well with the sauce, pizzoccheri with potato ad gruyere was also good as pasta was very freshly made but wasn't spectacular, and i had the spaghetti vongole which was delicious, strong garlic flavour however personally would have liked more of a kick with the chilli oil. all in all, mains were great. dessert was berry cheesecake which was fastastic, not too heavy, wonderful texture, crust was good, but was on the small side. also have a flourless chocolate which had a delicious chocolate sauce however cake itself wasn't mindblowing, but definitely still yummy. with dinner we also had a carafe of goldwater sauvignon blanc which was wonderful. after dinner coffees were also great. service was prompt, friendly. overall experience - great food, wine and coffee, good service, good atmosphere, reasonable prices. would eat here again.

home away from home. there is something about settling in at the cellar bar that feels like coming home. whether the warming comfort of the amazing hot chocolate, magical desserts or knowing that australia's best risotto (whichever flavor combination) is just minutes away. especially love the cellar bar in winter, when time is no object and a glass or bottle of wine accompanying the amazing pumpkin tortellini or fabulous orricette tops off a great meal. the service is always wonderful and we leave looking forward to our next excuse to visit. hmmm, let's celebrate it being a day ending in 'y'! ;)

awesome place. i've been a regular at cellar bar for a few years now and i've never had a bad experience here. the coffee is great and i love the ambience. my favourite meals are the pumpkin tortellini and bolognaise. cellar bar's brunches are fantastic too. and don't get me started on the sweets! tiramisu, cheesecake and especially the sticky date pudding! more so than anything, their amazing italian hospitality keeps me coming back. the staff do a fantastic job and i always feel like i've come home every time i'm there (whether it's during the day or for dinner at night)!
