had booked to come here for my sister's hen do over a month in advance. when we called to say we were running 10 minutes late the guy on the phone was fine with it. a few of us went in and our room was already for us. i had to go outside to see where the rest of the party was and the guy on the door had moved them to the side while he let a stream of his mates in. he gave us no reason for why he wouldn't let us in and was essentially just a guy on a power trip. maybe go here for a quick drink but don't plan your evening around it as if the guy on the door doesn't like the look of you then you won't get over the threshold.

we booked this place 2 weeks in advance and the manager sent my friend multiple crazy emails getting her to confirm her booking several times + making sure she was aware of all their rules etc. which was annoying but we dealt with it. we finally get there after dinner and the bouncer rejects one of our friends with zero explanation and then to make sure we definitely couldn't get in tells the manager that our friend was swearing at him (completely untrue) and the manager then rejects us for giving the bouncer 'attitude'. this was absolutely horrendous given the effort we went through to get the booking in the first place. i cannot believe how demoralising this experience was and how rude the staff were. poor form. do not come here.

go on a week day to experience goros at its best. no crowds and a very relaxed atmosphere. we ordered the chicken gyozas, prawn gyozas, chips with curry gravy, wagyu beef skewers, and pork belly skewers. all the food was exceptional. we also ordered the green tea sake which tasted amazing.

also another bonus was the free karaoke!

food here was poor. very long wait for service and cold when it arrived. over priced and dirty venue. would not return here. door staff were rude and aggressive also.

don't waste your time. bouncer on a power trip, would never attend again.

we planned a group karaoke night with our work team 2 weeks in advance, only to be constantly harassed with rude emails from the organisers leading up to the night. after arriving and lining up for 45 minutes; the first words that came out of the bouncers mouth once we approached the front of the line was "you've had too much too drink and won't be coming in tonight" - despite the fact that we were all completely sober, well groomed, and well mannered. startled by the bouncers abrupt first comment and apparent complete misjudgement of our situation, we questioned his reason and tried to understand why he thought we were not fit to enter the venue. knowing well that growing up in sydney nightlife it has always been a common conception that bouncers are known to single people out for no reason other than their current 'mood'. our night was derailed simply because of the bouncers complete misjudgement of our situation and desire to exploit his authority. it's also worth noting that in most cases, had we have actually had a few too many drinks and were turned down, this would never be an issue. we spent our money elsewhere.

i love the location and the decor, definitely a point of difference to the other bars out there. the taco sushi was different and definitely a combination of the two cultures. i love the tunes, upbeat and making me want to dance in every song.

$1 gyoza during monday happy hours not bad at all.
came with friends just now and order 5 pieces prawns gyoza and 5 pieces chicken gyoza.
to spicy up my meal, i did order “kamikaze” which is chilli and yuzu injected sauce, adding $2 and they put randomly on my gyoza.
eating one by one i’m expecting this chilli yuzu.
after i ate them all, i didn’t feel any spiciness at all on my gyoza, then i came back to tell the girl behind the counter that served my, and the answer was “ i told the kitchen about this kamikaze” and that’s it.
i didn’t expected free food or drink, however i’m expecting what i paid for.
if they can’t deliver at least sorry is what i expecting or gave 1 piece any dumpling with this injected chilli yuzu sauce, or just return my $2 back.
it’s not about $2, it just what fair for customer.
still saying this i like the vibe of the place and all decor, plus some more they put all vintage arcade games such as street fighter and time crisis randomly on the corner

busy izakaya near central station - place is a bit obscure to find. can make some amazing pork belly skewers that melt like butter but is inconsistent during rush hour (when ordered during a second visit, the meat was alot tougher). dumplings are also very nice but rather pricy per portion. chicken bowl is quite good.

been here a couple times and it’s always quite full even on weekdays, but if you try the karaage (fried chicken) you’d probably understand why. they have a different promo going on every day, and the $1 dumplings on tues/weds (can’t remember exactly) were pretty great. nice ambience with a karaoke room hidden inside, very japanese backstreet feel.

came here for the cool vibes on a friday night at 730 and it was completely packed. had to wait for 5 minutes for a table/booth to clear but not an issue.

the chicken karaage was nice as were the gyoza. my friend really enjoyed his fried chicken burger and i had a taste of the fries which were also yum.

great food, from their crispy karaage fried chicken to their burgers, top notch on the taste level.

smooth japanese beer (slightly on the pricey side) is definitely almost worth the buck. clean taps and a large variety of sake for those that want.

great ambience.

amazing spot! i’m coming here every week! good food, vibes and music! they play the best songs! the staff are very friendly the one girl asked if my partner and i want a photo.

goros and tokyo bird are only a street apart in surry hills and if i had to pick somewhere to live in surry hills, it would be somewhere round the corner between the two. both are japanese bars with japanese snacks and small dishes, but they could not be more different in terms of atmosphere. i love love love love love tokyo bird which i have been familiar with for years (see my review here) but goros is a relatively new find for me. while tokyo bird is small, intimate and perfect for date nights, goros is large, casual and loud with the music pumping. both are great in their own way.

i wasn’t expecting much from the food at goros but it turned out to be pretty decent. the pan fried gyozas were juicy and flavourful on the inside but crispy on the outside. the salt and pepper calamari were crispy, chewy with a nice tang of heat from the chillis. for sure, i’ll be going back to try their yakitori skewers.

can i just say goros really did a great job with the atmosphere, food and entertainment! it was such a great experience, the beef burger is a must try! the replica of a krabby patty! burger was so juicy, fresh and tasty! along with the curry dipping sauce for the chips was outstanding!
tried both of the gyoza, was pretty poor in our opinion, it’s missing something.
karrage chicken was delicious!
drinks were awesome.
love that they have a free karaoke room.
service really needs improving, the fact that you are required to order at the bar, not enough staff to take orders. i think it’s better and faster if there was a waiter on the floor taking orders and the bartenders at the bar taking orders for drinks.. just cause it took awhile to get our order and for the food to come out.
