fusion bay

it a a very late review . went there last february on a trip to kochi my wife's hometown. it's kind of weird to see all foreign tourists at that place and at evening 8:30 it was packed. it located at ford kochi easy to find as local people can guide you there.

as name suggest the food is a little fusion based set according to taste palates of foreign tourists but that still connects to the roots of kerala​. we order fresh lime ginger soda and for starters prawns kerela fried. it was yummy crispy and juicy. for main course we ordered grandma fish and fresh fish pollichetu. both are complete meal. grandma fish was a little spicy fish served with appam , rice and salad and it was wonderful as it reminds my wife of her grandma food. the fresh fish was wrapped in banana leaf and served with mango rice and salad , fish was coated in coconut masala steamed and a was really awesome. it was so much that we were hardly able to finish.

the best part there were just 2 indian in the restaurant at the time we were there for dinner. loved being in india and felling like we are in some other country. a must visit place if you are in kochi.

i had a very negative experience here. i went with my parents for lunch to fusion bay and settled down at a table inside. we were informed that there would be a wait for the order to be served and we were fine with it. after a good half hour my dad inquired with the maitre d' (a roughshod looking fella) if the meal was close to being done. the maitre d' very rudely responded that he said it would take time so why the ask. he came up again few minutes later, aggressively against the table, pointed out the order time and said it had only been 28 minutes and thus not to ask about the order. the meal started off badly but i held out for the food. i know good keralite food. this was a sham! the grandma's chicken curry had large uncooked potato pieces with a very average curry, rotis were cold, appams were flat and cold, and the fish dish prep was nondescript while definitely not the sear fish it was meant to be. overall, it was a wasted lunch experience and i would not recommend the restaurant. to the maitre d'; tone it down a notch or it's only a matter of time before someone wipes the floor with you. cheers!

this place is by far the best restaurant in fort kochi. it's a small restaurant but the food is absolutely large hearted.

the christan syrian meals are an absolute bang for buck. you will definitely be full after one. personal favourite would be the fish masala. they have the taste sorted out. pro tip- exchange the roti for the appam.

the prawn moily was nice but i really liked the prawn and pumpkin. that was a delight. appams could be lighter. they are a bit heavy at the centre.

service and staff were really helpful.

getting a 5 star cos the food and service was well worth it especially considering the other options in the neighbourhood.

stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. we did not have a good experience at the restaurant we visited prior and walked off post our starters.

here, we tried three of their home meals. fish pappas, fish varachurathutu and beef curry. we also tried their chocolate cake.

after wait time of around 20 minutes ( which they set a disclaimer for, as they make fresh orders), when the food arrived...we literally gobbled it up. it was absolutely scrumptious and very much authentic. even to my parents who have hardcore malayali taste!

the chocolate cake was decadent.

delicious food and nice ambience. the grandmother's chicken curry was heavenly and the chicken was cooked to perfection. the thali meal was also good! the service was quite slow, but the food made up for it!

only the most smashing crab roast and squid and prawns in mango curry we had in kerala. the food is super delicious. the service is a tad slow.

well the place has more foreigners than indians to begin with, the prices are also a tad bit on the upper side. the ambiance is a very homely one. the food however was lovely. the pepper squids, the prawns in mango curry and the fish wrapped in leaves was amazing. on the whole a 4/5 experience. they could improve with providing better to indians, and maybe some better music.

if you wanna have delicious seafood in fort kochi head on to this place! this place was recommended to us by almost everyone we'd asked so we went there for dinner & the ambience was impressive with helpful staffs. we ordered fish curry with rice and fried fish as well and all of them tasted heaven! if you have vegetarian friends with you then this is not a place for veggies, they'll be disappointed!
but seafood fans will leave the place with utmost pleasure, i guarantee you!

i want to preface this review with a shocking booking experience at fusion bay. when i called to book a table they said they were full but when i called back with a foreign accent they said they had a table available!! this preference for foreigners is endemic across the kerala hospitality industry, maybe for economic reasons, but it is still shocking to see this form of racism in one's own country!

when we reached there they couldn't refuse us entry.
i could review the food and service which in all fairness is above average but i am not inclined to do so anymore. i shouldn't have gone after what happened but not again for purely ethical reasons.

we came here extremely hungry and with little patience to wait. ambience wise - it is decent. the linen can be cleaner.
we had a lemon soda to start, and that was so-so. i rather suggest that you drink one from outside. we ordered the following:
× marinated grilled tuna
× butter pepper squid
× grandmother's chicken curry
the tuna was passable - no flavour as such. it was just a boiled piece of fish with some pudina paste on top.
the squid was yummy, and would be excellent with chapatti. the chicken curry stole the day - it was heavenly and went perfectly with the appams.
overall, we we satisfied with the speed of delivery.

i thought of trying out this restaurant based on the zomato reviews and unlike many people i did not have a good time here. i was here for lunch and the order took 1.5 hours to get ready. i had ordered papas fish dish and grandma's fish recipe along with salad and kerala style fried prawns. apparently the starters were served after the main course. the quality and quantity of food was good but this restaurant staff lacks management skills. they make people wait for hours due to which the place appears to be crowded. also the restaurant prefers foreign tourist over locals. their chef is the only reason why this restaurant is still in business.

the place was simple and the orders came it fast. the sea food was really good. we ordered the coriander prawn ,prawn roast and squid in pepper and coconut cream. it was fantastic!!

best for kochi styled seafood available here! we ordered squids pepper dry, kochi styled crab roast (yum, my fav!), mango n chilli prawns curry, rice for lunch. loved it so much was there for dinner and ate batter cried prawns - best ever. delighted with this place.

tried garlic prawns, grandma's chicken curry and cream tomato pasta.
loved it!! really good tasty food.
only issue is the quantity. it's a bit less!!

i ordered a coriander fish pollichathu, a dish which is 'burnt' in banana leaves; it was the most delicious meal i've had thus far in kerala. the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were very kind. i would definitely recommend this restaurant!
