foundation bar kitchen & lounge

a great place to dine! the atmosphere is very relaxing yet lively with both a restaurant and bar side. i recommend booking in advance because it gets packed out quickly on weekends. i had the blue cheese fettuccine and it was amazing!!! where else can you get blue cheese pasta?! i rate the pasta 10/10. my friend had the lamb shank and rates it 7/10 (the meat could have been more juicy). a great level of service, staff are very attentive. overall a lovely location for a date night.

not bad . last time we went we waited a very long time which dampened the experience . is a nice place though and see why it is very popular

recommend, visiting nz and wanted to take my mum out for lunch over the easter holidays, hit the jackpot!!! the fish and chips were wonderful, desserts fantastic and the staff were outstanding. yes yes and more yeses

consistently really good. thai chicken salad is by far my favourite although the onion rings and pizzas are good too. staff are always really friendly

we ate here as a group on the 5th of january. in total there was 5 adults and 5 kids. i hate taking my kids out to restaurants, i feel like they ruin everyone's dinning experience. that being said, we chose to sit at a big table outside. i've been here before after someone recommended it to me so, i thought it was a great option for us rather than the food court. the decor is ok, very typical layout, a little crammed in places. the staff were good. very friendly, i felt sorry for the young guy serving us due to our brats being a little loud but he handled it well. once again the food was a litlle bit of a let down. we ordered pizzas, fries onion rings and a couple of kids lunches ($100+). i was embarrassed about the food due to my big raving talk that convinced everyone else this was the place to go. the onion rings were so oily and yuck that we didn't eat them (waste of 2×$12), the fries were good but honestly, how do you mess up fries? the pizza (vegetarian, the quack, the tron) were lacking in topping and flavour. i hated the pizza base, it was like cardboard. i feel so mean saying this because i really did appreciate the service but, i think that when you pay $20+ for a pizza that it should be better quality than one from pizza hut. i feel like they were busy and rushed our food (it was probably to get rid of our kids!! i'm over exaggerating, they weren't being monsters considering the wait). would i go here again? don't know. it is the only nice option for dinning at the base but i wasn't that impressed this time around.

have been here many times over the past couple years. i used to really like coming here and made it a regular eating spot but have been really let down the last few times i have gone.

two visits ago there was no hand soap in the men's toilet, a little bit of a worry as it made me wonder about the cleanliness of the people making/serving the food.

the food has gotten slightly worse over time and my last visit may be my final one. made a margherita pizza for me on request even though it's not on the menu(they used to have the "italiano" - it was great but it's not on the menu anymore), which was nice, but it was a total flop. bland, and just not worth the money. hardly anything on it and no flavour. fish and chips less than average as well. fish was fresh but mostly batter. chips were nothing to write home about. one of the people i was dining with had their fish pan fried, and asked for no pepper on top because of allergies but received fish that had pepper on it anyway. the salad that was served with the fish was stale and floppy. the service has always been good, polite, and relatively quick, but this time i was here, the place was virtually empty and it still took about 45 minutes for the food to be served after ordering.

consistently disappointing. i keep coming back here in the hope that it will get better but it doesn't. last time i had the lamb, it was dry, tough and tasted "old". i politely told the waiter that i couldn't eat it, and they offered free drinks as a consolation. appreciated but drinks cost absolutely nothing to a bar. then i returned last night with a friend. firstly, waiter was rude and sarcastic. we were asked multiple times if we wanted fries, we said no. then again do we want more to eat with our meal, we said no. then before we had even finished he brought the dessert menu in case we wanted to buy something else. again, no thank you. staff need to learn not to push the upsell so much. sadly i won't be returning.

went there for a birthday lunch today (9th jan) and had amazing service , friendly staff and really delicious meals had the seafood chowder and the foundy platter .. def would recommend to anything was my 2nd time there (1st was a work do there at xmas over a yr ago) mums first time she adored it and nothing was a prob for the staff (even taking home stuff we couldnt finish was all good)

great food! we ordered the chicken, thought it was crispy but it wasn't, but that's ok it still tasted really good! just needs extra sauce. customer service is so good, very friendly! kept checking if everything is ok and if we needed anything!

came down this way on father's day and took him out for lunch to this restaurant. having been here before and having a good experience that time thought it would be a not bad choice again.  and we were not proved wrong.  even though it was busy as when we went in we were quickly seated in a " conservatory " type area.  it was actually good because it kept us away from the far noisier main part of the restaurant. the service was really good and the orders taken pretty quickly despite how busy it was. we chose the sticky pork ribs for my other half, the steak, egg & chips for me and my parents both had the fish & chips.  i also ordered the boysencider....which as you can guess is cider with the flavour of boysenberry .  that added flavour made it quite nice actually...bit of a break from the normal old cider.  my parents had ordered a couple of glasses of wine but instead the waiter came along with a couple of coffees!! this was quickly remeded and the correct order brought to the table. this was the only flaw in the service and the reason why i didn't give it the full 5 /5. shame ....because everything else was great.  our orders came out quickly and enjoyed by all,  except the ribs though good were not as good as other ribs we'd tasted; the steak for me which i had asked to be done medium rare was done exactly as i had asked, the fries were nice and chunky ....great to go with the steak and the eggs were just perfectly cooked that when you cut into them the yolk ran out.  the fish and chips was very good too. still with enough room in our stomachs i ordered the rice pudding and my other half the creme brulee off the desert menu. the rice pudding was delicious and one of the best i've had in a restaurant for quite a while. as for the creme brulee , i tasted a little and it too was very nice...the custard cooked well and the burnt sugar top cracking as it should. perfect.  so anyway overall the service was great bar that mistake with the drinks , the price what you would expect and the food great. all in all deserving a return visit sometime.,

stopped by for lunch and it looked the best option at the te awa restaurant area.

the restaurant was quite large and has a really nice interior. we just got a table in the main dining area but there were booths and outdoor seating as well.

service was quite good. aside from waiting a bit for menus, we were well taken care of.

lots of options on the menu, standard pub food selection. the scotch was good but a bit overcooked. the ribs were quite nice. portions were quite good.

nice place to stop by for decent food.

been here three times, the first was absolutely amazing food and service i was stunned and keen for more. second and third were not so good. service was mediocre the second time but on the third we felt very ignored and struggled to even get a drinks order let alone food.
second time food was mediocre third time we couldn't even finish it was actually not good. from here on a coffee is all i will be trusting this place with. one thing that was positive for all thee visits were the standard of cleanliness and it did seem to have a good feeling or vibe.

we went to this joint on the spur of the moment and we're pleasantly surprised with a plate if the most yummy ribs. the staff were super nice and the ambiance was both comfortable and fun. highly recommended .

food-we ordered their new gnocchi pasta and was really disappointed with this new item. it was too starchy and it taste nothing like pasta. the plate was too watery as well, we didn't finish our meal and have to sent it back. we ordered burger instead. the patty on the burger was a bit hard and was over seasoned with pepper.

service- someone approached us upon entering and it was great to have seated down straight away. when we are ready to order, we can't find a waitress to place our orders. they seem to be all busy running around and don't care about other tables need. it seems that they are avoiding eye contact. we saw a couple of waitress at the ordering terminal chatting and they can't seem to notice us while we are raising our hands. bottle of water and glass are placed on our tables like they are rushing. it was quite a shock as we are talking then bam! bottle of water and glass was put in the centre of the table. nobody went to our table after serving the pasta and ask how things are... i instead need to notify a waitress to ask if we can order other dish as we can't digest the pasta.

foundation bar used to be a good place where good food and courteous and prompt service is noticed. it was really a disappointment that every time we go here food quality and service is getting poorer.

my friend and i had an enjoyable meal here. we ordered the parpadelle with bacon, a steak sandwich and onion rings and winter veges to share. the food was great and the portion sizes impressive. the only downside was service - it was hard to get anyone's attention for drinks and food orders at the beginning and then after the meal it was like we had someone coming over every minute to "check in" - which felt more like we were being hurried out. a bit more balanced service would have been really appreciated, otherwise it was a good experience food-wise!
