anyway, the food at fork was outstanding to look at and equally as good to eat! all of the forks in our place settings were different from each other. my son noticed this halfway through our appetizers. we asked our server about it and she explained the mission of therestaurantand what the “forks” actually represented. i believe she mentioned the phrase “farm to fork”, and local ingredients, etc… i am sure you have heard it all before: organic, local, sustainability. slow food type stuff. i love, and buy into, many of these concepts. i am just not very good at describing them without sounding like a bad advertisement for a whole foods market, or a “fresh, new, healthy” item on a mcdonald’s menu.

not impressed. after reviewing their menu online i thought the food looked great, i was excited to try it out. the space itself is great, very cool vibe with a big, open dining area. the bar looked like a great place to hang out for a few cocktails too. after ordering, one thing i noticed is nothing is served right away, such as something as simple as fresh artisan bread and oil. this is usually the mark of arestaurantthat isn't too guest-centric i've discovered, in regards to the food. anyway, not a big deal but definitely noticeable to someone who's eaten in many excellent restaurants in quite a few cities. the first course salad was honestly terrible. i was in the mood for something simple, so i ordered their wedge salad. i got about half a head of iceberg with maybe 3 tablespoons of creamy blue, a tablespoon of crumbly, a few red onion rings, and a few grape tomatoes. none of the ingredients tasted all that fresh, and the salad had way too much iceberg and not nearly enough blue cheese. in short, it sucked. a wedge is a hard salad to screw up too.

onward to the entree. i came in looking forward to a ny strip or ribeye (like i saw on their outdated menu online), but they only had a filet on the menu that night. not the end of the world, i like filet as well. the meat came out on a skillet platter, which shocked me. why... on earth.... would you serve a cut of meat that's cooked to temperature on a skillet platter that's about 300 degrees and will continue to cook the meat long after it left the window? i can tell you why. stupidity. my medium rare filet was heading upwards to medium well by the second, as it sat there in front of me. i almost sent it back for being overcooked on arriving to the table (it was medium by this point) but decided against it. the truly terrible part was it was a quality cut of meat, the kitchen just overcooked it with the presentation. the sauce was pretty good. the polenta that it was served with was awful. overcooked and with little flavor. scale of 1 to 10 this place gets an 8 for ambiance and a straight up 1 for food. it's in no way a good value and not a memorable experience. at least not in a good way.

great restaurant. we tried fork on a recent trip to boise. it turned out to be one of the best meals on the entire trip. therestaurantwas busy and we grabbed one of the last bar tables available. we started out with the house chips which were good but i was expecting more seasoning. then we split the bogus bosc which was delicious! our entrée was the wild mushroom & local herb pesto ravioli. unfortunately we split the entrée because we were both left wanting more. the evening was finished off with cherry berry pie cooked in a cast iron skillet with vanilla ice cream. we thoroughly enjoyed eating here. the staff were attentive and knowledgeable and we left vowing to return.

delicious food, excellent service. reservations definitely recommended here as it is a rather smallrestaurantin a convenient downtown location. the ambiance is nice and we were seated near the window. we were seated promptly, service was attentive and we both were in the mood for salmon. the burre blanc sauce on the polenta was a perfect compliment to the fish and since it is sushi grade i was able to have it medium rare. the roasted beets were also served on a fried greek cheese - a combination that produced a heavenly flavor. i highly recommend fork!

tasty. therestaurantis in an old bank building, which is pretty cool. the blackberry moonshine mojito wasn't very good, but that may just my taste and not the quality of the drink. i had the wild mushroom and pesto ravioli with chicken, which was quite good. for dessert i had the bread pudding, which was delicious.

fork. thisrestaurantis a must eat in the down-town boise area. the location which therestaurantis curently located used to be a run down, nasty, disgusting bar. i am amazed at how this location has become an exquisiterestaurantin boise. it is hard to decide which is better; the food, or the decor. superlative food and service. i am so happy to see a revival of amazing restaurants in down-town instead of obxnious bars!

horrible service!!. a group of 11 of us had reservations for 6:30pm on a saturday night following an event. when we realized around 5:30pm that we were running late, we called and asked if our reservation could be pushed forward; we were told it could not, that there was another party reserved at 8pm following ours. we sent friends ahead, who arrived at 6:30pm; our table was still dirty, so they waited a few minutes to be seated. when, at 7pm, our server came around (for the second time) to ask if we were ready to order, i was on the phone with the remaining 3 people - they were on their way to therestaurantand were literally 3 blocks away. i told the server this; he rudely stated that "you need to order now, because we have another party coming at 8pm, and you won't be done by then if you don't order now."

when the manager was told, she was extremely apologetic and offered solutions like moving us to the bar, or to their private event room, if we were not done by 8pm. (we declined.) we ordered shortly after that and our food came quickly; we were out of therestaurantby - yes - 8pm!! i've never been treated like that at arestaurantbefore, and even though they offered to fix it, the damage has been done. would never recommend it even though the food was decent (and pricey).

disappointing. i really wanted to like fork, but after two tries, i have to say that i am very disappointed in the food. ambiance is gorgeous, service is excellent, menu is fairly interesting. my last visit, 3 out of 4 of us ordered the new york steak - basic, easyrestaurantdinner... none of us left happy. seasoned nicely, cooked correctly, but steak was tough, gristly, fatty and generally tasted not good. first visit was similar with a pasta dish.

delightful dining experience. we have eaten at fork on several occasions, for both lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed in the food. it is quite refreshing to have the owner come to our table to inquire about our meal and service. this is nearly a lost art. the wait staff have been very pleasant and helpful. our last visit was duringrestaurantweek. the meal was good, as expected. but what was quite unexpected was dessert; butterscotch cheesecake! i love cheesecake and take every opportunity to sample it when i find it on the menu. i was intrigued by the flavor. i had not had butterscotch cheese cake before and from the first bite i was sold. it was phenomenal. the waiter said it is locally made! my question is "why isn't this on the menu all the time?" this is truly a winner. please, bring it back.

a new fave. i was introduced to thisrestaurantvia a friend. on this particular night, they were serving the fried chicken with waffles as a special. though i am not typically a "fried chicken and waffles" type of girl, i couldn't pass up the idea. the chicken was cooked perfectly, and the waffle tasted as it should. however, after about five or six bites the sugar, and fried foods hit my blood, and i was done. that didn't stop me from sampling the butter cake about 20 minutes later, which is now a new favorite dessert. i have, since that dinner, returned for a couple of lunch dates. i truly enjoy the sliders and the artichoke and i am sure after i work off the butter cake at the gym i'll be back for more.

nicerestauranthaving an identity crisis. we entered a lovely restaurant. the atmosphere had so much potential. the concept of high quality local foods so appealing. the tables so close together that two other diners practically sat on my dinner while trying to get in their seats. the food was well prepared and delicious. i was surprised to see sandwiches on the dinner menu and a children's menu attached to a classic menu. like my title implies...thisrestaurantcan't decide if it is a finerestaurantor a pub.

outstanding!. we've had dinner numerous times at fork and each evening was great! we've been so impressed we've brought friends and they've loved it too. therestaurantis very impressive from the moment you walk in the door, the decor, the great people that work in the restaurant, to the delicious food. the salads are interesting and beautiful, large enough to share, and each entre we have had has been exceptional. i particularly love the hagerman trout with kale and my husband has tried several different entres never to be disappointed. we even stopped in with friends for drinks one evening and, kelly m. who, by the way is delightful, suggested we try the butter cake desert. wow - it's so out of this world delicious that i'm wondering if they'll share the recipe!?!?!
the fork is an outstanding and a great new place to dine in boise. make a reservation soon!
