excellamente!. not sure if that's a real word, but it describes my recent experience at the flea st. cafe in menlo park. i was introduced to this wonderful restaurant by my father, who eats there often with my mom. they prefer to sit at the bar, as i do, and so we did.
i am a complete amateur at organic dining, and flea st. surpassed all other experiences i've had with trying organically prepared foods. the bartender was very helpful, describing the menu selections, and offering suggestions. in particular, what stood out was the simplest of all things - a small sampler plate with sliced rudebega and purple potatoes. off the cuff, these sounded odd and generally unappealing. however, upon tasting, they were wonderful. i could replace most any other appetizer elsewhere, with something as simple as this.
jesse cool, the well-known chef and owner of flea st. and other bay area restaurants (see cooleatz.com) came out and said hello to my father. she was genuinely interested in what we thought of the food, the ambiance, the scene at her little cafe. upon noticing that i had chosen the salmon dish, she immediately commented that it was "cooked perfectly". and it was.
all in all an excellent experience. ihopeto be back there soon on my next visit to see my parental units.
