often called a san diego institution which usually means a place to be avoided. portions are large, but food is bland. if you like meatballs and spaghetti this is the place for you. quaint interior with deli at front. large lines at weekend 7:00pm.

well, if i have to (go there). every so often a friend will say, "hey, how about filippi's for lunch?" to which i respond, "do i have to?" it's not like the place is bad, there are just so many places that are better!

the food at filippi's is unremarkable -- the pizza's are ok, the subs are ok, the baked dishes are ok. the environment is ok, kinda dumpy, worn and tired. the service is ok (wait-persons always seem harried and curt). the entry is awful -- you enter thru a grocery store and the smell is horrible! the prices are quite reasonable, you're not paying all that much -- and that's what you're gonna get.

there are worse places you can go to grab a bite to eat. well. sorta. if you have to ...

a must go to!. i love this place. there are many other restaurants in little italy. however, this is by far the best. consistently very good food, large portions, and fair prices. looks/feels like you are in new york, chicago, or boston. as there is a market/deli in the front, and the restaurant is in the back. red and white checkered tablecloths, chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling, open kitchen. i have had almost everything on the menu, and have never been disappointed. i am a big eater, and rarely can finish my plate. which is fine as i know i will have a tasty midnight snack, or tomorrows lunch. the front deli has yummy italian cookies, and fresh/handmade cannolis. this place is family friendly. a great place to bring a date, especially a first date, as it's not expensive, but very nice. i often go there by myself. no problem. you can bring your kids here, your grandma. you know it's good , as there is always a line to be seated. if you are looking for fancy, upscale italian food, then this place is not or you. but if you want authentic, like mama made italian food, then this is the place to go.

been going to filippi's since i was a kid. i'm surprised that there are so many negative reviews. i've been to a few of the filippi's restaurants and hands down, the one in little italy is the best. try it, you won't regret it!

classic 1950's italian dining. this is the best spaghetti you can ask for, and the price is right. you can't ask for more.

phippis italian restaurant. the color and flavor of delicatessens in new york or chicago. the immigrants that created a wonderful earthy and authentic place to eat unbelievable portions of great italian food. always a line but people in the line outside are mostly of the italian community and if the locals go there to eat, thats where i go..

our experience at filippi's was just ok. the portions are huge, and the pizzas are insanely cheesy - but our pizza was nothing special. service was ok. would go back to try some of the pastas as they looked pretty good.

the perfect pairing of service and food

we had a excellent experience during an early dinner. fillipi's always has very good italian food and this time they shined for the service we received from "randall." he has a wonderful ability to interact with the customers as if they are family making everyone around his area very "at home" in the restaurant. he does this in light a hearted way with good knowledge of the menu and wine offerings. he timed the courses of our meal with a restrained hand so that we could enjoy our wine and food without feeling at all rushed.

filli['s is a very popular and therefore a busy restaurant in the heart of little italy, the service "randall" provided to us made our visit to this iconic location a very comfortable evening.

great place, has that "old italy kind of vibe". usually you have to wait in line to get into restaurant. as you stand in line, you make your way through the little italian grocery store. the pizza is decent, but the antipasto salad, spaghetti, and the garlic cheese bread are so delicious! if you are in little italy while in san diego, you gotta check out filippi's!

the place looks popular.it was packed on a monday evening.but i don't eat beef or pork. ordered their signature veg pizza. one size it seems.no options for different sizes. the pizza was okay.i.used to oregano, but there was none.most people ordered spaghetti and lasagne it seemed.

i went to filippi's in little italy and i had to wait in line to get in but my hotel recommended it so i decided to give it a try and i was so glad that i did. i got the pizza which was wonderful. it has thick crust with lots of cheese and toppings. it was great! i was by myself and they didn't have individual slices so i ended up with a whole pizza but it gave me dinners for the rest of my trip so it all worked out.
