a place where you can get food comparable to fine dining yet with very relaxed, leisurely casual setting that is accessible to everyone. it was very packed - it only has 30 seatings. the server actually had to move the small square table for me in order for me to snag my seat. it features a large open kitchen that has approximately 7-8 people (at least) working in there - which surprised me since therestaurantonly has about 30 seatings. however all kitchen staffs were quite occupied. i could see each table ordered quite a few dishes since their servings were very small that i could literally finish the food in 2-3 bites. food were served fast. menu changes very frequently as therestaurantserves what come fresh from the farms to the table. despite its packed and casual setting, the presentation of food was great; the food in fact beats many corporatized, upscaled restaurants that come off snobby yet with only average food. i was impressed how taste-buds stimulating the food was (bas

the farmer's apprentice on west 6th - vancity's no. 1?. i love trying new things. whether it is new flavors, cuisine types, places with different ambiance. as a vancouverite, i also like to keep up with the happenings, so i follow vancity buzz since the traditional newspaper isn't really my thang.

upon reading this recent article, i had to try the farmer's apprentice. located on a small street on the west end of vancity, i would definitely call it a hidden gem. although, it is not so hidden anymore after this article.

http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2014/04/best-restaurants-vancouver-2014/

it has a small patio up front great for vancouver summers.

the farmer's apprentice had a nice atmosphere; open kitchen, small and cozy, and variety in the menu. the portions are small enough to try a few things, but big enough to share. i enjoyed my time dining here, and it is a great rising restaurant..(but to be honest, i'm not too sure about it being no. 1). i did enjoy the flavors of these dishes overall - it seemed more fusion than i would have imagined. my favorite dishes were the sweet gem oysters and olives, and my least favorite was the smoked octopus - i was actually a bit disappointed at the dryness of the texture as this was the dish i was really looking forward to. the staff were friendly, despite a small seating mix up. therestaurantopens at 5:30 pm, but i saw people lining up around 5 pm!

...i was instantly intrigued and thrilled at the opportunity to check out the recently named vancouver magazine’s 2014restaurantof the year. it’s located a short walk from my office and i’ve passed by numerous times and thought the space looked charming, and i’d heard and read many rave reviews about the food. the room is c

[3.5/5] i like the fact that therestauranthas switched to the tasting menu format. and the price is quite reasonable for the amount of the food and the quality of the ingredients. for our dinner, there were dishes of brilliance, such as the tomato and plum salad, the salmon, the quail and the agnolotti. but overall the meat-focused menu is much better than the vegetarian one. it seemed like they had to use the same ingredients in different courses for the vegetarian menu. portion wise, some of the meat courses could be smaller by using fewer ingredients, which could help to avoid repeating the same ingredient in different dishes. if you go with another person for dinner, it's better for both to take the same menu. we thought we would taste more things if we took one meat and one veggie, but ended up having a lot of redundant components going through the 6 courses on both menus.  but overall, we enjoyed the flavours from the quality local produce.

i've only been to thisrestaurantonce a year ago and found their charcuterie plate absolutely ridiculous. i was given one slice of cheese, one scoop of a jam and 2 crackers for like $15-$20. however, the mains that we ordered were delicious. small portions but the price point was reasonable for what we got. i liked the overall local, casual, farm to table feel and the flavourful food for each simple dish. however, i had taken my mom that day and she felt at the time that there wasn't much service.

engineer boy is back in town this week visiting environment girl, and catching up with some old friends. he’s a big fan of the farmer’s apprentice, so as soon as he touched ground in vancouver he rounded up the troops and planned a meal for sunday evening. i was excited since therestaurantserves one of my favorite brunches in the city, but i’d yet to try their dinner service. i was also unaware before arriving that they no longer have an a la carte menu, but instead have two prix fixe menus: the omnivore and the herbivore. therestaurantused to be known for its ever changing daily menu that varied depending on the ingredients delivered daily, and my guess is that this is still the case, although i didn’t ask so i can’t be sure.

my friends and i ordered three different dishes yesterday. i tried the pulled pork with buttermilk biscuits and fried egg and my two friends tried salads. all of the food tastes good and fresh. knowing that the food was organic. i did not feel special about eating the food though. for my dish, it surprised me that their pulled pork was not too salty. buttermilk biscuits were great.

my friends were late, so i had to wait for them sitting at therestaurantby myself. a staff asked if i would like to drink something else until my friends arrived. i ordered a cup of coffee. the coffee was elysian. it was alright.

the kitchen was open and clean that customers could see everything inside. many chefs and helpers as well as waitresses were working together.

the first time i went to farmer’s apprentice was more than a year ago when i went for brunch. i remember being stimulated more intellectually than gastronomically. since then, thisrestauranthas won a few awards and is generally regarded as one of the best restaurants vancouver has to offer — especially when out-of-towners ask where to eat on chowhound. speaking of chowhound, check out this little discussion of chef david gunawan’s new downtown venture with donnelly group (!).

our server was great and attentive, refilling our water, drink orders and making sure our needs were met throughout the meal. the prices were comparable to any otherrestaurantin the city for brunch and the dishes were made with fresh products that you can taste. i cannot wait to come back for dinner, curtis and i both agreed this needs to be sooner than later.

the farmers apprentice is located in fairview and they serve a farm to table style cuisine that uses the best ingredients that our local farmers have to offer. as per weekend tradition, brunch is a must! farmers apprentice has been on my ‘eating list’ for a while. they were named best newrestaurantof 2014 by en route magazine, restaurantof the year by vancouver magazine, and so many more.

farmers apprentice is a farm-to-tablerestaurantthat really harnesses the essence of each ingredient. i came here with friends for brunch and it was a great experience, but it wouldn't be a place they would revisit over and over again.

it's quite healthy and tastes super clean, so it's really not for everyone. i personally loved the treatment of each ingredient as there is a lot of care that goes into the dishes.

i was so worried about coming here since all the reviews i've read seem to be so polarized! i was quite close to not coming because i thought it was too risky if so many people had bad experiences. i am so glad we did not cancel our reservation! the food was fantastic!! at first the idea of small plates was a little strange but once i became accustomed to the idea that everything was meant to be shared the vision of thisrestaurantbecame clear and it was an even better shared food experience! certainly not a place for a group of 5 or 7 if you are only looking to order only a few things. the concept here is to order 5 or more different small plates and really experience your food! we didn't leave stuffed but i was totally full and content by the end of the meal! have to say one of the best restaurants i've been to! the staff was super friendly and very accommodating - we ended up talking to the table next to us for 3 hours and were not made to feel bad for taking so much time! lovely lovely place!
