not impressed and disappointed. heard good things about this place and decided to go for our anniversary. service was great but the food was not good. their signature duck smelled and tasted like leftover food. very dry, over cooked, and had a microwaved taste. the beef medallions were okay. finished the bad meal upstairs for dessert. ordered two items and only 1 came out correctly! how can you serve apple pie for pecan?? there are only a few items on the menu. the upstairs was not properly staffed and it showed. i asked for the pecan pie to be warmed. half of it was warm and the other half was cold.

i rarely post reviews but felt for the money we spent at this restaraunt, my expectations were much higher. i left hungry, angry, and disappointed.

we heard so much buzz around sarasota about euphemia haye restaurant that we had to try it! the cynic in me thought that the buzz, as is so often the case, may just be a product of mere hype. boy, was i wrong!

parking was easy as euphemia haye has a parking lot behind it. we entered by walking up a walkway lined with perfectly manicured flowering bushes and other shrubbery with delicately and meticulously strung lights. it felt like walking through a magical secret garden.

we entered and were promptly welcomed by david who allowed us to pick our table. we picked amongst tables with a single long-stemmed red rose in a beautiful glass vase on each one, a classy look for each table and the rooms overall. we chose to sit next to a window facing a beautiful garden in a room that felt like a charming northern home inside, as you can see in the photo collage, although the photos don’t do it justice.

david was attentive, accommodating, knowledgeable, and provided such excellent service that we felt like vips during our first visit to euphemia haye.

in addition to the special service, the food was outstanding!

the zucchini fettuccini consisted of fresh strips of zucchini quickly sauteed in roasted garlic olive oil and topped with homemade tomato sauce and sartori parmesan shavings. it was so delightful! i was amazed that it was so much like pasta, but without the heavy feeling... bonus!

the sweet n’ spicy shrimps consists of jumbo gulf shrimp, seasoned with cajun dust, char-grilled, and served with a honey mustard sauce. we told david earlier in the evening that we don’t always like spicy food, so he offered to leave the cajun dust off of the shrimp without us even asking him to, which was so kind of him and we greatly appreciated that he listened and was thoughtful enough to offer that option. the shrimp themselves and the flavoring on them were all delicious!

i was not sure which salad to get, so david recommended the classic caesar salad with fresh romaine lettuce in a creamy lemon and anchovy dressing with garlic, parmesan, and croutons. great recommendation! the caesar was lovely - a proper caesar salad, but not overpowering in the anchovy flavor.

the filet mignon fritzie consisted of an 8-ounce center cut tenderloin of beef steak, expertly seasoned and grilled to the guest’s liking, which is medium with a warm pink center in my case. the filet was served on a wisconsin potato pancake with caramelized shallots, and a bourbon demi-glace. this entree was magnificent. the filet was tender and the potato pancake was delicious! the only constructive criticism i would add is that the potato pancake was so good that i would ask for it to be served on its own, not under the filet, so it retains more of its crispness. the chef was very accommodating with special requests, which was so appreciated, so i think he would do that for me. it also impressed me that i took half of the dish home and it even warmed up really well the next day!

we added the sicilian brussels sprouts, which are split and pan-blackened in olive oil and garlic. brussels sprouts seem to be trendy at fine dining restaurants lately, so i’ve had them at many places and euphemia haye’s were definitely the best i’ve had! perfect mix of seasoning and perfectly cooked, as in a bit overcooked to give it a perfect texture without being burned.

as far as dessert, i long for the days when chocolate mousse was easier to find when dining out. in recent years, it feels like chocolate mousse cake and other chocolate mousse creations are easy to find, but a good chocolate mousse on its own is harder to get, but euphemia haye serves chocolate mousse with fresh whipped cream and it did not disappoint! it was what i would consider a traditional and decadent chocolate mousse, unendingly rich, as chocolate mousse should be. it was beautifully and intelligently served with vertical layers (yes, vertical layers) of mousse and whipped cream, which gave it supreme balance.

after dinner, we were curious about the haye loft, which is a lounge and dessert bar upstairs. david was kind enough to walk us up the really cool wine cork lined staircase to the haye loft and introduce us to gabby who told us about the haye loft and answered our questions. she was incredibly helpful and welcoming! the haye loft has a really hip vibe almost like an incredibly upscale cafe. a musician named amandah was playing live music and she was really talented! the cakes and pies were out and looked decadent! gabby was kind enough to explain each one to us and it was hard not to buy and try them all!

thank you for a special evening in your garden-facing dining room! it was so lovely! we’ll be back!

expensive mediocre dinner. had heard great things about this restaurant, but after dinner last night, was truly disappointed. the house wine was good, and the zucchini appetizer was outstanding. that's the end of the "good". the duck entre was dry, which i thought would be impossible with duck. my wife's filet was not at all seasoned and remarkably tasteless. the asparagus side was just ok. the make a big deal out of deserts served upstairs. the banana cream pie and the apple walnut pies were run-of-the-mill at best. for $220 for dinner for two, the meal should have blown our socks off. as i left the restaurant, i noticed i was still wearing mine.

not a place for touriest. while visiting the anne marie island attempted to have dinner at euphemia haye restaurant. it is clearly a place for the locals only.
the staff was very rude, discourteous and put out by newcomers. i have travel a great deal throughout this country and have never been treated so poorly by staff simply because i was not a regular.

a bit high in price, i would reserve euphemia haye for a special occasion yet recommend you check it out at least once. if dinner is out of the question, at least try the desserts offered in the loft

charming and good--. really like this little place. very sweet! it reminds me of some of the great restaurants in the hamptons in ny-- or up in vermont. have been dining here for about 5-6 years, but with it being on longboat key (a bit of a drive from palmer ranch) we don't go as often as we'd like, as one does not want to drink a few cocktails and then have to drive so far :( but, even so-- it is a cute little place and the food is always great... and not too overly priced for what you receive. super nice wait staff, too. very professional! my only complaint is that it closes a wee bit early and doesn't open early enough-- otherwise... this is a winner! :)

a unique experience!. my husband and i visit this restaurant every chance we get! the food downstairs is absolutely delicious and worth every penny. the wait staff is wonderfully attentive and will suggest a wine to go along side your meal option. in fact, the last two times we have visited we had the same pleasant waiter. the atmosphere is positively quaint. nothing like any restaurants in the orlando area.

the haye loft is like no other. it has a romantic charm to it the moment you step foot upstairs. the haye loft usually has unique local talent playing piano for you while you nosh on delectable desserts and sip coffee. did i just mention desserts?!? chef ray arpke will make you want to try all of his creations. that is if you still have room in your stomach after supper!

if you are in the sarasota/tampa/orlando area and would like to experience something spectacular, visit euphemia haye!

went for our anniversary last night, eh, this place has pasted it's self life. the service was mediocre as was the food, what was not was the bill! i do not mind paying for top quality items, things cost but this was not it. i can say i will not be back for a mid pack meal at nyc prices. too bad, i was excited to go but the farther the meal went, the excitement drained. the need some new life and the chef-owner should cook, not parade around in chefs whites with old accolades embroidered on his chest.

very disappointed. expected much better. ordered grouper, received duck, waited another 15 minutes and got a bland, rubbery mass that may have well been boiled, not grilled as the chef insisted. gave up on it after three bites. should have kept the duck brought in error. they thought it would be gracious to comp half the cost of the entree, i thought it insulting to charge anything at all for that inedible mess. will never return.

overpriced poor quality when we expressed disappointment in the meal the chef/owner (who didn't cook the meal) argued with us. guess the customer isn't right @ this place! will not be back and will tell all not to bother . there are plenty of other high quality restaurants in the area with better food and service. don't waste your hard earned money here.
