different, excellent and friendly family owned place!. i was told by some of my friends at work about this place and how good it was, so on my birthday, i decided that i wanted to go try it out! my husband, brother and i went and we really enjoyed everything. it is in a rather small place and the way you order, is to grab a menu and a pen and you just check off what you want and how many you want. there is a picture of eachempanadawith a description of what it is filled with. i had the spinach & cheese, the humita with corn, onions, cheese and white sauce, the guava & cheese and the criolla, with beef, onions, olives, raisins and eggs. my brother and husband each had about 4 as well. they really enjoyed the cheesesteak ones the best! we couldn't eat everything that we had ordered, so we wound up taking most of them to go. we also wound up ordering some to go for some friends of ours who had watched our son the night before, as we were going to be picking him up afterwards. it was so nice to have something so different, yet so good for a change! this is just something that you don't see everyday. what is even better, all of this goodness for a mere $2.50 each!!

now, on to the best part about this place...one of the owners, miming!! she was the most friendly, helpful, sweet, funny ladies that i have ever met! she is very cute and charming and is originally from indonesia! we had such a great time talking to her and getting to know her! i loved her laugh! her husband, raul, the other owner, was not in on that day, but she told us all about him and he is from argentina. we could have sat there all day and chatted with her!! we had a very enjoyable time! we will without a doubt be returning to empa mundo again! how can you go wrong with such great service and with such a wonderful, different and great tasting food! oh and she gave me the sweetest compliment, she told me that i was a very beautiful lady! wow!! this place had me at "welcome!" lol!

empamundo = high quality!!. raul and his wife do not mess around when it comes to making some super good empanadas! i lived in argentina for a few years and grew to love the empanadas there, so i was so excited to learn of a newempanadaplace in town. i have gone to just about every other place in the metroplex that claims to serve empanadas and none come close to the quality at empamundo. i especially liked the texas brisket empanadas. go check this place out and talk with raul and his wife a bit about what sets them a part, i think you will be impressed. also raul saved me as he found my cel phone in the parking lot after closing his shop.

good stuff. stopped by empa mundo on north belt line in irving today for a late lunch. had read the reviews here on us and wanted to give it a go.

empa mundo is one of those unobtrusive, mom-n-pop establishments where the depth of flavor in the food is something you'll never find at the chains or more renowned places. (which is a good thing. if you're into status, being trendy or being seen, empa mundo is not for you. please stay away. it will leave more truly tasty food for those of us after quality instead of status.)

i ordered a variety of empanadas (savory $2.50 each and sweet $1.50 each). i had the chorizo (chorizo, potatoes, onion), spinach/ricotta (spinach, ricotta, parmesan ch, egg), brisket (brisket, potatoes, onions) and an apple to try the sweet.

the chorizo and the spinach/ricotta rocked the house. very flavorful and rich. solid depth and blend of flavors in both. potatoes and onions cooked perfectly and complementing the chorizo. the spinach is a great lunch empanada, and would serve equally well as a flavorful breakfast item as well.

the brisket was a notch below the other two. the potatoes and onions once again were spot on. the brisket was a little on the dry side, however i've certainly had worse brisket.

chorizo and spinach i'd rate a solid a, the brisket a b to b+. still good but not the same echelon as chor or spnch.

the appleempanadawas fair. the interior of the pastry was a little on the dry side, and the apple filling inside was below par. it was only $1.50, so wasn't expecting it to be something to write home about, per se. just saying it could be better and was okay instead of delicious as some of the savory empanadas are.

after the meal i spoke with the owner, raul. he's a delightful man. clearly interested in and determined to putting out a quality product, and they do.

the empanadas are not large. they are toward the smaller side in size, however the richness of the flavor make up for the size and lead you to be satisfied. three savory and one sweet got me out the door tt&l for under $10, and i did not leave hungry.

if your driving force is quality food instead of hip/trendy, stop by empa mundo on north belt line in irving. you'll be glad you did.

best new restaurant in the dfw area!. empa mundo is winning the hearts of pretty much everyone who stops by long enough to try something.

from my perspective it seems to be based on a simple and effective model for success.

passion for quality:
down to every little detail, raul and miming have given thought as to the best practices that lead to best overall taste and texture. i heard raul explain a few things about the process he uses for the chilpanzinga empanadas. it is obvious they have a true passion about the quality of the food they serve.

the customer service is hard to match:

from the moment i entered the small, humble, yet extremely clean and welcoming location; raul and miming gave us the warmest welcome i have had since showing up to my grandparents house on thanksgiving. they were both so very friendly and approachable that i felt as though i had known them both for about five years. they helped us order and were just so pleasant.

i mentioned quality and i believe that a big level of the quality at empa mundo is seen as they use fresh ingredients and make theempanadafilling in a very organized manner to lock in some great flavor. aside from the good flavor and freshness they take their product to the next level by filling the empanadas better than most places that attempt to serve empanadas.

overall this place is certainly a place worth doing some driving for. in fact i would go as far as saying it is the best reason that anyone could have to drive to irving. to me it is the only reason i would ever drive to irving.
