first time. my first time there...wonderful experience...great service...small yet quaint and peaceful atmosphere...food was wonderful. will definitely go back to try the other dishes.

indifferent and bland tasting food. so we went to elsa's after reading all the great reviews and came away very disappointed



we tried the meat combo - food was really bland, all the dishes tasted and looked the same - vague looking meat under an unappetizing looking sauce

some of the best ethiopian i have had, certainly much better than others in kansas city. elsa make gluten free injera, as well! some of the dishes can get pretty spicy, so if you don't like heat and ethiopian is new for you, ask for help ordering. the family that owns/runs this restaurant are friendly and accommodating. great food, great prices!

elsa's is the first ethiopian restaurant i have tried and it was delicious!

my dining companion and i split the meat combo and got an order of sambosas. it was just the right amount of food for 2 people and was very reasonably priced. 

everything that came on the platter was really tasty. the closest thing i can liken it too would be indian food. stewed meat but without the curry base. it was just the right amount of spicy. enough to be really flavorful but not too much that it's overwhelming. 

it was a nice, small, seat yourself type of place. the owner was nice and very helpful when we didn't know what to order.

if you are looking for something to mix things up definitely give elsa's a shot!

i say sorry to people who liked this place. but for me this place sucked big time. the restaurant smells with a weird smell and the food tastes horrible. some of my friends liked it, but am not a big fan

love this place!. love the food here. i suggest the meat combo. it's enough to feed two people. owners are so nice and friendly. my favorite place for ethiopian!

who knew...ethiopian is so tasty?. i heard this place was good, but that was such an understatement. i wish there was another way to vote, other than a thumbs up, like a heart that says love it!

great first time. my daughter and i tried elsa's for the first time on a whim. enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. my only two complaints are 1. for an establishment marked with a single $ for price range...i found it to be a tad more expensive than i had planned. should probably be marked as a $$. 2. although the personal attention to us by elsa was a nice touch, by the end of the meal it bordered on intrusive. she really crossed the line when she reached on to the plate of food she had just brought us and literally showed us how to eat. followed by reaching out again to "make our plate" and scolding my daughter for using a fork to eat part of her meal. all in all a nice place and i will probably go back, but more prepared for the final bill.

highly recommended. elsa's is superb. finally, kansas city has a fantastic ethiopian restaurant that is affordable, with exquisite food. the cook, elsa, knows how to create a variety of specialties. my favorites are the spiced red lentils, the doro wat, and the buttery, spicy collard greens. as others have pointed out, the injera is not only delicious, but the waiter is generous in keeping tables supplied with it.

equally important is the service and the hospitality that elsa offers. all are welcome, and guests are treated royally. i recommend it highly.

excellent ethiopian food and-ddd hospitality. the food is varied and delicious (making it ideal for vegetarians ... or vegans, with a variety of meat offerings as well) and i'm already scheming for my return trip. the owner-chef, elisabeth, is a charming hostess as well as accomplished chef. my friend, adele, and i are quite glad we've now discovered this jewel and look forward to return visits.

if you've not already dined here, you need to experience this jewel of a restaurant. kansas city foodies need to visit this restaurant again and again ... to patronize and thereby to keep this restaurant open.

plan on allowing time enough as this is a leisurely meal meant to be savored.

went on a date there and we both absolutely loved it. great tasting food, elsa was extremely friendly, and overall wonderful experience.

my favorite ethiopian restaurant of all time!. my partner and i really enjoy ethiopian food and seek out ethiopian restaurants wherever our travels take us. we were so excited to find the best ethiopian restaurant we have ever experienced right in our own backyard! we love elsa's food so much that we now do our best to get there at least weekly. you won't go wrong going here! just be prepared to be hooked like we are!
