ekamai. two times when i have ordered take-out now, they have included all carbs -either rice or rice noodles and the very smallest amount of meat and veggies. they did not even include the veggies that the menu said the dish came with. some were left out and not crisp but mush. when i ate in the restaurant, i did not remember this happening. if you want to pay $12.-$15. for a bowl of rice or rice noodles this is the place to eat. their exotic brown rice is good however there is a lot of
competition in town for other thai food that tops this.

we were told to wait outside in the cold .. we arrived at 4:45 and were greeted in a not so friendly way that we were 14 minutes early . we were told to wait outside and then we could come into the empty restaurant in 14 minutes . she was precise on the minutes . we then ordered and it was not at all worth the wait . very average presentation and came cold to the table . so many other thai restaurants to pick from that have decent hours and friendlier service .

i've been coming here since they opened and always got great food. their pad thai was the best i had tried in the valley but tonight it wasn't nearly that good. it was ordinary and was almost fishy not the pad thai that i love. hate to write a negative review because i like the owner, but at the same time disappointed. maybe they've changed cooks?

the calamari (see, there i go again) was all rings battered and fried in a very light and crunchy panko-style batter. it was accompanied by a sweet cilantro sauce. initially, i wasn't altogether sure about the sauce. i like cilantro, but it overpowers easily, and i've never thought it went particularly well with seafood. the sauce was light and not overpowering at all, however. i was surprised how well it married with the ultra-light calamari. not sure if it was the unexpectedness of liking the sauce so much, but this was one of the better calamari preparation i've eaten. and i say this as one who actually prefers the legs of the calamari to the rings. one can only imagine what this recipe

the food is delicious! the service was excellent. despite a small mix up in our order it was remedied with overt politeness. did i mention the food was delicious! we'll be back and will tell our friends.

the cook has a deft hand combining the strong flavors of thai cuisine into a wonderful medley. deep and flavorful, this place is not for people who can't handle flavor.

amazing experience - 5 stars. one of the best restaurant in salt lake city, bar none !

my name is jay, i'm an entertainment lawyer and music producer based out of miami beach. my wife and i have a home at bald eagle, in deer valley. we visit the area once every couple of months. and when we do, we try to select a new restaurant experience. a few of our friends had recommended ekamai through "word-of-mouth". i looked at the reviews, and visited the restaurant late yesterday evening (i'm used to dinning late in miami).

it was two minutes to closing, so naturally i was a little concerned about the service i would receive. the host was very professional (and young). i was the only patron in the restaurant. i picked a table and quickly ordered. the host was amazing ! he came over and made recommendations. i selected the curry chicken. we made small talk about the restaurant industry in slc, and his background.

the food was amazing to say the least and i truly enjoyed it and the fact that i had the restaurant all to myself. the service ? great ! i go to restaurants first for their gastronomical feat, not decor. i travel the world and some of the best restaurants i have visited were "whole in the walls". in nepal, mongolia, peru, cuba, africa etc....

my experience at ekamai reminded me of a review by an individual using the pseudonym "berrymonger". it was obvious that this persons review was a "personal, vindictive, malevolent, and malicious attack on a business and a human being. i have never written a review before because i'm of the belief that if you don't like a venue, place or business....just don't go back ! any business establishment or person can have an "off day". the reason i wrote this review is principally because of the review of "berrymonger". my wife is an executive at google. utah is per capita, the leading state in the nation for review complaints. this is perhaps due to the "self-righteousness of a large portion of the population due to the culture, dominant religion, identity , religious frustration and entitled individuals (you know who i'm referring to) ! to berrymonger, you were flat out wrong and i'm calling you out !

salt lake city is home to some great thai food and ekamai might be the best. i was first introduce to ekamai and woot (the awesome owner) when russ lived above the first location on 300 south and 336 west. after frequenting ekamai on a near daily basis, russ and woot became great friends and we have been eating ekamai’s amazing thai food ever since. ekamai’s first downtown location is a fast, easy way to get some of the best thai food in the city. they have different made-to-order specials daily, but the set menu of various kids of curry and my personal favorite, the massaman beef, you can get on a regular basis. the staff is friendly, and you can get in and out for a quick lunch in no time. the food won’t disappoint. about a year ago, woot opened a second location in sugarhouse. this location is a sit down restaurant with a more detailed and in-depth menu. the atmosphere of this location is quirky, modern, and inviting – and you can get more of a sense of woot’s food and the array of

rudest host in town, borderline abusive dining experience. we've been regular customers of the sugarhouse location since it's opening, and have always supported it. however, absolutely horrible experience over the weekend!

watch out for the overly arrogant, extremely rude host! major chip on his shoulder for absolutely no reason. never before have i had such a hostile confrontation. we arrived in the tail-end of the evening, and there were plenty of open seats. we asked to sit outside, and he put the three of us at the corner table with a view of gravel, some junk and the side of the house - while there were two open tables along the outer sidewalk edge. after sitting down we thought, hmmm...maybe we should have just asked to sit over along the sidewalk.

no one attended to us for at least 15 minutes. when someone came by and began placing plates and water down for us, we politely asked if we could move to the open table. he nodded and proceeded to help us move our water and chairs over.

the snarky host eventually made his way out and sarcastically asked if that other table wasn't good enough for us, and implied that we should not have just moved around the patio on a whim. i get the sarcasm thing - but this wasn't playful. his tone was disrespectful and completely out of line.

we confirmed that an employee helped us to move to the other table, wouldn't you assume that would be reported back?? the host then proceeded to scold us like school children, saying that the waiter would never be able to find us....on a patio of 10 tables. well...wouldn't that be your responsibility then, sir? knowing that we moved, you could walk across this very small patio and let the waitress know.

for another half an hour, we received no service, no drinks, no apps. nothing. to make it worse, multiple waiters, bussers and that rude host peering through the windows pointing at us - as well as attending to the other patio tables often.

about 45 minutes after being seating, and barely surviving on water - the host and a waitress showed up for further scolding. awesome. so lovely.

we were finally able to get some food about an hour later, however i was not but five bites in when they asked if we needed boxes. trying to rush out your paying, extremely patient and forgiving customers who are also ordering drinks and appetizers? not cool. the waitress was friendly, but the overcompensated niceness came too little too late, there is no recovering.

very, very disappointed in how this experience panned out, especially considering we had a guest visiting from out of town with us. no doubt they probably spit in our food after this debacle.

word to the wise - get rid of that host, or you're going to have a hard time bringing people into the restaurant.

we have been meaning to try out ekamai thai since it opened. our friends love thai food so we went together to try it out. we were definitely not disappointed. the menu doesn't have a ton of options, but i like it that way, it makes it easier to choose and you can tell they put a lot of work into each dish.   we chose to sit outside so our babies wouldn't disturb anyone inside, unfortunately it began to rain just as we got our appetizers! our waitress was so kind and found us a table inside and while we took our littles inside the host helped our waitress move our high chairs, food and drinks to our new table. they were so fast and so helpful! we really enjoyed our food and appreciated the kind service. chicken satay w/ cucumber salad and peanut sauce thai curry dumplings pad thai massamun curry w/ brown rice xoxo

ekamai is great, the only suggestion i would make it to cut things smaller so the flavors can spread better. (i hear people frequently comment on it.) they are good at what they do. i can bring anyone there because they have great vegan & vegetarian options, as well as offer brown rice instead of white rice. woot the owner is an awesome family man, & helps support local artists. his staff are friendly & accommodating. i'm happy to have them nearby.
