finally stopped in at east hill market, have been wanting to try them since they opened and for one reason or another we just have never been. had gone to the palafox farmer's market and worked up an appetite looking at all thefoodthere and hightailed it over to ninth ave. afterwords.
we found the inside to be quaint, and part grocery store and part retail space for artsy items (see pictures). the ordering process is not completely obvious but the staff was very helpful and we got ourfoodordered with little difficulty.
there are three places you can choose to eat, one in the market, one behind the kitchen, and then you can sit outside and eat, if the weather suits you. we chose the quiet area behind the kitchen and that is where the first two inside pictures i uploaded were taken.  it has a cute almost coffee shop feel to it, and it was out of the way of the customers milling about the market part of the business.
we both ordered soup, and found both to be fair, and in need of salt, but something more, i expected my sausage soup to have been more hardy, but was similar to a watery minestrone. we split the fish tacos and the avocado sandwich and it was a bunch of food.
the avocado sandwich was the favorite of us both, and it must have had one whole avocado on it, and a nice olivada spread that was like a tapenade that added a lot to what can be a ho hum sandwich. very solid!
the fish tacos were good but very messy!!!! there was way too much extra going on with the black beans, mandarin oranges, pineapple salsa, slices of avocado, and lastly the slaw, and everything just fell out onto my plate. i understand plating, and making a presentation of the dish, but it also has to hold to its intended purpose. you can not eat a taco with you hands that you can not close. the flavors were there though, and after i removed a lot of the debris, i could eat the taco and enjoyed it. they did a great job of not allowing the salsa to get too sweet (i have made it clear before that i do not like sweet on my meat).
i will be back, i enjoyed myself and so did my wife. i like the cute concept and want to try a few more items on the menu. if you get the tacos, you will need extra napkins.

omg, the meatball sub is killer good. one sub feeds two people, making the $9 price a bargain. real meat freshly made italian meatballs, it is sooooo good. half the sandwich and i was stuffed. we also bought sourdough bread and yogurt chicken salad but haven't tried it yet (saving for dinner tomorrow).foodis really hot fresh and good. also, they have really good selection of wine, flavored teas, produce and things you cannot find in other stores.

can't quite understand the other reviews here.... east hill market is one of the most welcoming, enjoyable spots in pensacola to grab a bite to eat. not only is thefoodamazing (you have to try their staples: the avocado sandwich and the meatball sandwich) but the people who run it are as well. it's a family joint, and it feels that way - consistent, cheerful, and helpful service that you expect from a local spot. not to mention thefoodalways comes out fast and hot. it's one of the best kept secrets in pensacola. i can't help but think that these reviews are made about some other place, maybe city grocery that has a similar feel and is known for rushed service. just a thought...keep that in mind and don't let other's deter you from trying it out!

food vs. service. after a 35 minute wait we decided getting back to work was a priority!
thefoodis not the problem. very tasty after we got back to work!
the problem is the attitude problem of the woman on the register!
a couple ahead of us was treated rudely by her as they cancelled their order. then when we wanted to cancel our order and she informs us this is not a fastfoodplace! a young waitress tells us they are bagging our order. norma's, new york deli , etc. are not fastfoodeither! snarky cashier is overhead and she is costing the loss of profit from the customer!

we are from houston,tx and came upon this place when we were looking at furniture. i am eating hands down the best raw salad i have ever had in my life. fresh tomatoes, red onions chicken, guacamole, zucchini, broccoli, carrots, freshest greens, cauliflower...i am shocked there is a place like this in pensacola. houston has some of the bestfoodin the world and for lunch this is up there. i could not be more impressed as we are very healthy eaters and this place is amazing. if you are from out of town this place is a must.

greatfood-. great sandwiches with fresh quality ingredients - they should charge more for the meatball - can easily feed two for lunch

weird set up - they carry a lot of "gourmet" or specialty grocery items that can be found just about anywhere including the country grocery store where i shop - not sure what their mission is there

i cannot comment on the wines as i am not a wine drinker

i will be ordering the pasta bucket to go next week.

go for lunch - shop local

omg the meatballs. this is an add-on to a previous review i wrote about east hill market where i mentioned that someone said the meatballs were a good option to try. oh my lord, they are amazing. they give you two huge ones that are packed with flavor and herbs, and come in a delicious sauce. you have to try them at least once.

can't judge a book by its cover. i just ate here for the first time after numerous drive-bys. the inside is much more welcoming than the outside with a bit of a city grocery feel. they have some market items arranged on shelves including organic products and a wine selection. i mostly came to try thefoodso i didn't pay much attention. they have a limited menu but with some very good looking selections. they have sandwiches, soups, a vegetable salad, and a couple italian items including meatballs that i overheard the chef say that he's been making them for 55 years. i chose the avocado sandwich, and added the chicken breast to it. it came prepared on some really good sourdough bread, a pickled jalapeno salad (like olive salad), and what seemed like a whole cut up avocado. it was great, and i feel a bit sinful. you get to pick out a drink from the cooler in the back, and it was included in the price of the meal. the whole experience was great for a lazy saturday afternoon, and i recommend stopping in to give it a try.

at least once a week. it didn't interest me. we saw it a hundred times, but never went in - my bad. finally, when i was out of town, my husband went, and insisted on taking me as soon as i got back into town. oh wow. so much taste! they can't seat a lot of people, but they fill the tables and more and morefoodis going out the door to nearby businesses. i almost always order off the board; their cook, jason, is creative and hisfoodjust tastes so good. hungarian chicken soup, thai noodle salad, curried chicken salad with grapes and pecans, tarragon chicken salad, avocado sandwiches . . . you never know what will be on the menu, and it is always delicious. hubby has told them not to allow him to order tony's meatballs more than once a week. i'll admit, i have to sneak a bite or two, the meatballs are extraordinary. great friendly service, and very good produce at reasonable prices, lots of fun condiments and local products, and an eclectic wine selection. thefoodis so good.

freshfood& fun atmosphere. my husband and i went in for lunch yesterday. i had the avocado sandwich with olive spread and roasted red papers on sour dough. my husband had fish taco's which were one of the daily specials. both of our lunches were delicious. all of the ingredients were really fresh and we can't wait to go back. i am looking forward to trying their homemade soup and more of the daily specials they post each day.
